15.01.2022 CHANGES TO THE LAW From September 30 2013 the sentencing act changed and Magistrates now have the discretionary power to suspend/cancel your drivers licence for ANY offence regardless of the offence type i.e. it may be an offence not associated with driving. Further to this if you commit an offence where alcohol was involved then the magistrate can not only remove your licence but on getting your licence back you may be fitted with an alcohol interlock device in your car as o...ccurs now with drink driving. So for example, if you were drinking and got into a fight then the magistrate can take your licence away as part of the sentence and then fir you with an interlock when you get your licence back. you will not need to do a drink drive course as such but you will be required to undergoe an assessment as part of the relicencing process. 09.01.2022 WHAT HAPPENS TO THE LIVER WHEN YOU ABSTAIN FROM ALCOHOL EVEN FOR A SHORT WHILE? A recent article in the weekly publication of NEW SCIENTIST(January 4th 2014) considers the immediate responses of your body- the liver in particular- to a pause in consuming alcohol on a regular basis. The key responses recorded among participants included: reduction of fat on the liver- (accumulation of fat in this area can be linked to liver disease); improved blood cholesterol and blood glucos...e levels, some weight loss. Participants provided ratings on quality of sleep as well as concentration- which were also improved in reference to their own initial readings and those results of the control group.
