23.01.2022 You may have realised we have been quiet for the last few days, we are all ok and still loving our adventures but have been catching up with some good friends. We have spent the last few nights about 50mins out of Adelaide in the little town of Nairne. Our kids were also super excited for the catch up, other kids to play with and the added bonus of Xbox and Netflix. The boys where quick to set up camp in the back yard as the girls opted for a slumber party in the bedroom.... Whilst there we snuck off for a return trip to Hahndorf, what a great little place this is, full of German stuff, lollie shops, restaurants, drinks and two shops still running as they did years and years ago. One being the old leather smith and yes we bit the bullet and bought our port barrel. We also squeezed in time to venture up the Mount Barker Summit to take in the scenery. On another day and to Noah’s excitement we where able to explore and go inside a working ARMY base. He loved the obstacle course, vehicles and all the stuff they had to use and train with. Typical kid but the virtual training ground in his head sounded like a giant video game and he was sold on the idea of joining the forces. Other then that is was fun in the yard with all the kids, good chats, good food and a few beers. We left this morning to continue our travels and found an interesting little place in Tintinara. A school project, salt flat turned into Lake Indawarra, with its own little eco system it has made for a great donation camp and a relaxing swimming hole with its own pontoon to jump off for the kids. Great job guys. See more

18.01.2022 Short run this morning to the town of Narrandera, pulled into the Narrandera Caravan Park for the night to recharge the battery’s and devices. While in town we had a look at the main swimming hole (the locals call main beach) this was not the main beach we know but nice sand, heaps of shade, far less people and on a good part of the river. The old railway track was definitely worth a look while in the area before moving on to hunt for the old P.S. Wagga Wagga. After last nig...hts rain the river was quite full making it difficult to find but we where on a mission. Finally located 2 inches of the old paddle steamer, took a knee on the bank and helped the kids connect the dots. They finally understood the lengths these guys traveled and the use of these steamers, from the wool sheds we explored on day 10 to the timber yard on day 13, the old Wharf yesterday we found it’s final resting place at the bottom of the Murrumbidgee in Narrandera. We moved on to the Tiger Moth Memorial for a bit more town history before checking out Australia’s biggest guitar. Yes it works!! Hey kids we’re going on a bear hunt, into the Koala Conservation Park we drove. (Yes we found another song from John) Unlucky for us but to no lack of looking we couldn’t find any today. All this time we had a sneaky surprise arvo planned for the kids at the Lake Talbot water park. In the end it was Ali and I surprised at the extremely affordable entry fee of $11 for the family What a great little town, very clean and so much to see and do. See more

12.01.2022 Bit of a slow start to this morning as we we’re in no major rush, once we had breakfast and got ourselves sorted we headed to the Yanga Woolshed. This century old shed was built to accommodate 3000 sheep and provide work for up to 40 shears at any one time. The Woolshed was built to replace the original which was burnt down in 1896. I believe this place was taken over from national parks in 2005 when they stopped shearing and left exactly as it was. This isn’t a tour, the Yan...ga Ranch is just open for the public to explore, read the signs and use there Imagination. The amount of cool stuff we found just lying around, having the place to our self, being able to take our time and seeing it all first hand was phenomenal. We could of spent hours there digging around in all of the bits and pieces that have been lost and forgotten over time it was really spectacular. Right down to an old gum behind the shed where the shearer’s would though there blunt blades at to stick in the tree. From there we headed to the Yanga Homestead to check out how they live and set out their house back in the day. How prim and proper it was, very different and eye opening for the kids. This was followed by yet another quick dash (30km of track) to the Historic Homebush Hotel for a cold beer and history. The late afternoon was spent around camp playing some games with the kids. 12.01.2022 Sooo... after a few heated phone calls and a couple of emails back and forth over the past 4 days we had our cross boarder travel application approved and were granted entry into SA. We honestly thought this leg was removed from our trip and had continued east away from the border. We ripped up the hand break, chucked a U banger and lookout SA here we come. After a few hours re-travelling the same roads we finally hit uncharted territory and back on the dirt we go. 100km o...f pot hole and rut infested track we hit the boarder. The dirt road instantly improved and within what felt like seconds the big town of Renmark appears from the outback. Holy crap there’s roundabouts, traffic lights, Bunnings, Mc Donald’s we all got a little excited I think. 30 mins down the road in wine country we found a little sandbar in Loxton on the Murray river to call home for the night, have a swim, play in the sand and relax before we catch up with some good mates in Adelaide tomorrow. 11.01.2022 No water hole left un-swam. That water is bloody cold and straight of the Snowy Mountains. Good job darling. Great idea from the boys on The Explore Life The out come in the comments below.

06.01.2022 Traveled North East today, across the NSW border and have stopped for the night in the town of Hay. In Traveling through Swan Hill we stopped at the old Bourke & Wills fig tree and gave the kids a quick history lesson on their 3 month expedition from Melbourne to the Gulf. We checked out old Codly (the big Murry Cod) and listened to yet another John Williamson song relating to the town. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=INpai1pyOdM&autoplay=1 (Always good for a laugh, and so ma...ny places we have been in his songs) We crossed the border and off to another pub sign at the Tattersalls Hotel (for those that don’t know we have the old iconic outback pubs book and have been dropping in for a cold beer or lunch in our travels and signing off all that we visit and supporting the locals). While in Moulamein we had a good opportunity to show the kids how freight, transport or travel worked before Trucks, Trains and Buses at the old river port. As we continued east we traveled a 100km portion of the 1500km wide Hay Plains, nothing for miles then out of no where a lonely gum tree appears. This is said to of been planted years and years ago by the first brave men to cross. Its purpose was to mark half way, give a directional bearing and some shade. At this point today it was a crisp 44 degrees. Pulled into Hay mid arvo for a great swim in the cool Murrumbidgee River and set up camp for the evening. Nachos for dinner and work out tomorrow’s adventure. See more

03.01.2022 No to much to report today, just a short drive east, crossed the boarder into the education state (VIC) and found another little town called Hopetoun. Our house is finally Scheduled to settle tomorrow so we needed a place to settle in for two nights, escape the heat, grab the computer out and get this done. Hopetoun sits perfectly in the middle of no where but has a good camp (donations only) next to a Great Lake, shady trees, shower and toilets. Perfect for a skiing, paddle boards and a swim to cool of in this 40 degree heat. It is really amazing us the amount of little gems that are spread around the country waiting to be found. This is certainly one of them and I would recommend to anyone travelling through.
