21.01.2022 IZZY - here is my final image.. I'm very pleased with this portrayal. Izzy amongst palm trees in his back yard. I love the texture and tonal values provided by the palms.

20.01.2022 IZZY - Barrista extraordinaire.... at Double Shot Xpresso Cafe in Coffs Central. Some time with Izzy capturing a few portrait images... I'll show my final image of IZZY once I've narrowed the field and completed my editing... but in the meantime here's a glimpse...!

19.01.2022 Introducing '100 Windows' This is a personal photographic project that showcases the role our eyes play in communicating with others. I’ve been in Coffs Harbour for about 10 years, having come from suburban Melbourne and absolutely love living in this paradise. From the first day here, I experienced one significant and meaningful difference that, in itself, lasts no more than a few seconds. People take just that little bit of extra time to engage with each other. It’s in th...e street or in a shop, when someone greets you with a smile and momentarily takes the time to look you in the eye. That’s the connection! - It’s a fleeting but genuine exchange of acknowledgement. It is noticeably different to contact in a metropolitan world, where the pace of life can take more precedence over some of these finer human qualities! Here, I sense a genuine desire to acknowledge others, and in return be acknowledged - a gesture of togetherness in this rural community. Extending this basic human trait, one of making eye contact in acknowledgement, it is the eyes that convey so much in a blink of time. Each person gains a ‘sense’ of the other and without consciously realising it forms a momentary connection that enriches the meeting. Having, and using this ability to connect, can reveal part of the very essence of humankind, indeed our eyes are truly windows to the soul. This project has one purpose, to look through these 100 Windows and bring to the onlooker a notion of the soul. For the onlooker, as they ponder each portrait, there just may be a connection as well. I am hand selecting people that I’ve observed, who have a ‘way’ of connecting, using expression and eye contact. My intention at the very least, will be to publish the final series online, on one or more of the fine art websites. As the project gains momentum I’ll find other outlets, will use social media and will also be looking for local promotional opportunities. A secondary goal will be to find sponsorship to assist with the production of one large book that will be presented to Coffs Harbour Library as a record in time of the project. This will remain as a pictorial reference to 50 residents of Coffs Harbour at this time.

18.01.2022 Added another couple of portraits to my 100 WINDOWS project over the weekend. The first is Nick, who I have known for about 6 months now. Quite a likeable bloke who is always up for a natter. He has a busy lifestyle with a fair amount of travel involved with his job. I chose a fairly neutral setting for his portrait and so far have narrowed my choice down to two images. Both of these for mine, tell me about Nick, another guy enjoying and getting on with life! I'm not sure which one I'll end up using yet??

17.01.2022 Spent a couple of hours with Gavin yesterday talking about his very rich and colourful life. Now in his 80's he is never short of a good story. I cannot decide on my final image yet.. These two have risen to the top and there are elements of each that I like...Does anyone have any thoughts on a choice please?

16.01.2022 TREVOR - Another willing participant today. Trevor is a gentle soul and patiently spent some time this afternoon. With an overcast sky we used his garage as a studio and placed him so that he'd catch the soft light flooding in the doorway. Looking forward to working up a final image....

10.01.2022 So this is Sharon...she is a mum to four lovely and very active kids. Apart from all that that entails she works with hubby in their own and very busy IT based company . We spent a little time taking some portraits for this series. A contented and lovely lady!

09.01.2022 PRESTON - settling on a final image of Preston was difficult. From the shortlist below I found three that I were very pleased with. This final choice won out as it tells a little more about Preston. He is a guy of few words and gets on with life in his own way. A strong and purposeful young man.

08.01.2022 TREVOR - I think this final image has come together well. I'm also happy that it's a true representation of Trevor, who has a good conversation and a good heart.

08.01.2022 Dorothy is a member of a family I have been photographing for a number of years now. I first met her when she was a little pipsqueak and it is lovely to see she is growing into a quiet but delightful teenager.

06.01.2022 SAANIA - We spent a little time up in Woolgoolga capturing a few images... I wanted a fitting backdrop for Saania, and we used the stunning shapes of her local temple to help frame these images. It will be a struggle to settle on one image as there are some striking ones in the shortlist.....!

04.01.2022 SAANIA - Interesting how a shoot can evolve.... Saania came prepared with two different headscarves. I was drawn to a more highly patterned one that we used for most of the time. Nearing the end, I ask Saania to change to this one and it was perfect! It adds more simplicity to the set and generated just that little bit of extra focus on her eyes. This final image came together beautifully!

03.01.2022 TREVOR - Love this image! A true reflection of this Aussie character. Couldn't help notice how he's colour matched his upholstery to his eyes. Quite a striking resemblance and a great backdrop for this image!

02.01.2022 Connie was the second of my portraits for this weekend added to the 100 WINDOWS project. Again I've known Connie for about six months. Another young and vital Coffs Harbour resident! Connie has an easygoing nature and enjoys a very busy lifestyle. She is well travelled and is an engaging conversationalist. Her compassion for others comes through in her nature and this is well utilised, working with special needs kids. I used rich and low key tones for her portrait setting. I'm down to two possible choices here...can't decide yet!!
