22.01.2022 Today and every day, we encourage our community to reach out and ask friends, family and one another 'R U OK?'. You don't have to be an expert to ask the question, and it could make a world of difference to someone who is struggling. This year, remember that there's more to say after 'R U OK?' - ask the question and then listen, encourage action and check in.

15.01.2022 "Not all women and begin at equal starting points, we know that. The less access to power and resources you have, the more inequality will disadvantage you. Its my roleas a woman with power and resourcesto open up the space for other women." Our online event with the incredible Elizabeth Broderick - Australia's longest serving Sex Discrimination Commissioner and now United Nations special rapporteur for Discrimination against Women and Girls - left so many in our community feeling truly inspired. We've shared her full conversation with our founder Alicia on our website at 100women.org.au/blog and we'll continue to feature some of our favourite highlights on social media in the coming weeks and months for everyone to share and enjoy.

14.01.2022 Debut author Julie Sprigg is launching her memoir Small Steps: A Physio in Ethiopia on 10 September, with all ticket proceeds from the launch to be donated to 100 Women. Visit https://tinyurl.com/yyc2alke to purchase your tickets -- @juliesprigg Why my book launch is raising funds for 100 Women...... In the course of marketing my book I've been asked many times for my advice for folk wondering what they can do to make this world a better place. One small step I recommend is to donate to an organisation like @100womenaus, that prioritises women’s economic empowerment, because the return on that investment is huge. I’ve seen first hand in my ten years of international development work that when women contribute financially to the household it changes the dynamics of who makes the decisions. When women have a greater say where household expenditure goes its more likely to be spent on the family’s health, education, and nutrition. That’s a fact that’s been verified many times over by research, and a fact possibly known by women all over the world without having it verified by research. When women are empowered economically, they also gain greater legitimacy in public discourse. During the years I spent working alongside Disabled People’s Organisations and Community Based Rehabilitation Programs in India,Bangladesh, China, Cambodia and Vietnam I saw the collective power of women. Mothers of children with disabilities came together to advocate for their children to attend school and pressured local authorities to improve safety for girls, among other things. I’ve written a blog post all about it and you can click the link in my fancy new linktree in bio. 100 Women is about changing women’s lives: whether it’s utilising microcredit or coming together to create job opportunities in the community, or working to overcome structural inequalities. For donations see link in bio. #100women #100womenaus #booklaunch #perthevent #physiotherapy #physio #vicpark #givingcircle #givingpower #fremantlepress #perthreader #crowbo

11.01.2022 Today is Human Rights Day. Today also marks the end of the 16 Days in WA - Stop Violence Against Women campaign. Human Rights Day is observed every year on 10 December the day the United Nations General Assembly adopted, in 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). The UDHR states the rights to which every human being is entitled to - regardless of race, sex, colour, religion, language, political opinion, birth, property or other status. This year’s theme, Re...cover Better - Stand Up for Human Rights relates to the COVID-19 pandemic and focuses on the need to build back better by ensuring Human Rights are central to recovery efforts. We will reach our common global goals only if we are able to create equal opportunities for all, address the failures exposed and exploited by COVID-19, and apply human rights standards to tackle entrenched, systematic, and intergenerational inequalities, exclusion and discrimination. 10 December is an opportunity to reaffirm the importance of human rights in re-building the world we want, the need for global solidarity as well as our interconnectedness and shared humanity. #100women #100womenaus #humanrightsday #unitednations #sdg #recoverbetter #fdv #stoptheviolence #givingpower #joinus
