22.01.2022 LATEST FROM THE WEATHER BUREAU FOR FRIDAY.... For people in parts of Northern Rivers and Mid North Coast Forecast Districts. Issued at 10:53 am Friday, 11 December 2020.... HEAVY RAIN FOR PARTS OF THE MID NORTH COAST AND NORTHERN RIVERS TONIGHT. Weather Situation: A trough of low pressure lingering on the Mid North Coast is weakening as onshore east to southeasterly flow strengthens across the region in response to a high pressure ridge developing over the southern Tasman Sea. Although the rain rate over the Mid North Coast has decreased, periods of intense falls are likely to redevelop over the warning area tonight and the first half of Saturday. A coastal trough looks likely to develop within the easterly flow early new week. HEAVY RAINFALL is forecast to redevelop over the warning areas tonight and continue Saturday morning. Rainfall rates could be locally enhanced by topography, training of showers, or thunderstorms and this may lead to dangerous flash flooding. A Flood Watch is current for Orara River, Bellinger and Kalang Rivers, and Hastings River. Locations which may be affected include Coffs Harbour, Bellingen, Sawtell, Dorrigo, Grafton, Yamba and Evans Head. Mooral Creek (northwest of Taree) recorded 48mm in 1 hour to 1:30 am and a total of 103mm from 9am yesterday to 9am this morning. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Don't drive, ride or walk through flood water. * Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. * If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue. * Be aware that run-off from rainfall in fire affected areas may behave differently and be more rapid. It may also contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks. * After bushfires, heavy rain and the loss of foliage can make the ground soft and heavy, leading to a greater chance of landslides. * Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires. * For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.
