25.01.2022 CHAOS FOR TRAVELLERS AS HARD BORDER RETURNS There was chaos at Perth airport yesterday as the hard border was reintroduced with Victoria. Flights out of Victoria were costing as much as $600 as Western Australians rushed to make it back home before it was too late. There were eight Melbourne flights carrying 1500 passengers who made it to Western Australia before the midnight deadline, but all those who arrived will be forced into self-quarantine for 14 days. Similarly, holiday goers from Victoria were forced to leave Perth to avoid having to self-isolate for 14 days, as anyone who had been in Victoria since December 21 was forced to do so.

25.01.2022 FIRE FEARS OVER POPULAR ALDI VACUUM Aldi has issued an Australia-wide recall of its Easy Home Multicyclonic Vacuum Cleaner amid safety fears. There are concerns the vacuum’s motor may overheat when the dust filter is blocked, possibly resulting in a fire. The blue and red bagless vacuum cleaners were sold on two different occasions from February 5, 2020 to March 3, 2020 and again on September 5, 2020 to December 9, 2020 in stores across West Australia. 25.01.2022 Three male youths were seen running from the area of a blast at a toilet block in Belrose Park, Kallaroo. The explosion took place at 4.30pm on Sunday. Police hold concerns for the youths' welfare given the nature of the explosion. 25.01.2022 WATCH: SUSPECTED ARSONIST SETS CARS ALIGHT Arson squad detectives are still on the hunt for a suspected arsonist who damaged 50 vehicles at a Perth wrecking yard. Police released this CCTV today which shows a person entering an auto wrecking yard in Forestdale on February 24 just after 3 am. According to police, a person entered the yard through a damaged fence looking at wrecked vehicles. Half an hour later the offender is seen using a battery powered grinder on a wrecked v...ehicle which ignited a fire and damaged 50 scrap vehicles. 24.01.2022 Kalgoorlie born actor Meyne Wyatt has made art history after being awarded the Packing Room Prize for his self-portrait at this years Archibald Prize. Its the first time an Indigenous artist has won any prize on offer in the 99-year history of the Archibald Prize. Wyatt said the painting started as a "COVID project", but his mother Susan Wyatt, herself a finalist for the Archibald Prize in 2003, encouraged him to enter.... The Packing Room Prize is selected by Head Packer Brett Cuthbertson and other gallery staff who receive, unpack and hang entries. The winner receives a cash prize of $1,500.
24.01.2022 MAN LEFT QUARANTINE TO GO CLUBBING IN PERTH A man, 25, flew from Adelaide to Perth on December 11 and was issued a direction to self-quarantine for 14 days at a city hotel. He was arrested by WA Police officers the following day after a routine compliance check at his hotel. The man did not go directly to his hotel from Perth Airport as directed, instead he went to a drive-through takeaway outlet with his driver. When checking into the hotel he failed to wear a mask or tel...l staff of his quarantine requirements. A short time later, he left the hotel to attend a supermarket and a convenience store. Later that night and into the early hours of the following morning, the man left the hotel again to attend a city nightclub for five hours. He also went to Elizabeth Quay to take photos. He was fined $13,000, which he must pay before he is released from custody. He returned a negative COVID-19 test on December 25. See more

24.01.2022 PREMIER "EXASPERATED" OVER FRONT LINE WORKERS NOT WEARING PPE WA Premier Mark McGowan has said he is "exasperated" over a number of frontline workers breached PPE protocol when dealing with an infected traveller. An airport worker, nurse and ambulance officer did not wear full PPE when caring for and transporting a woman in her 80s who travelled from the UK last week. ... "Clearly there is complacency and mistakes are creeping in," premier McGowan said.
24.01.2022 DRIVER CHARGED OVER EAST CARNARVON CRASH Police allege a Honda Accord driver didn't stop after colliding with a cyclist on the weekend, leaving the rider with severe head injuries. He has now been charged over the incident and is due to appear in court on January 18.

23.01.2022 PREMIER FLAGS KEEPING WA’S CONTROLLED BORDER, AFTER DRUG DROP WA Premier Mark McGowan has said he is considering extending the state’s controlled border arrangement even after the COVID-19 pandemic, in a bid to keep drugs out of the state. In a press conference this morning the Premier said drug importation and meth use has dropped drastically since the implementation of WA’s border check and tracking arrangements, saying if re-elected it is a measure that could be kept in place.
23.01.2022 Caps on Australians returning from overseas will be lifted in the coming weeks, with WA to take on more arrivals. The staggered approach will see an additional 200 travellers arrive in WA per week from 27 September. That will increase to 500 additional travellers by 11 October. Scott Morrison said that rushing the vaccine would be very dangerous to Australians and that Australians were in a different situation to other countries as our coronavirus numbers are very low. Australia currently has 10 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine ordered as well as 50 million doses of the Oxford vaccine. Vaccine rollout for Australians is expected to begin in March and healthcare workers will be among the first to be vaccinated.

19.01.2022 BALI POLICE PROBE DEATH OF PERTH MAN Authorities in Bali are investigating the death of a Perth surfer after he was found dead on a popular beach in Bali. The 50-year-old male was found by another surfer around 8.30AM on Sunday Morning. He was discovered under the stairs on Suluban Beach in South Kuta. The cause of his death is not yet known.

18.01.2022 PERTH’S CROWN CASINO UNDER FIRE The fate of Perth’s Crown Casino hangs in the balance as WA gaming regulators consider a bombshell report that found the company unfit to run its Sydney casino due to money laundering claims. The report made 19 recommendations, including proposing several legislative changes aimed specifically at addressing money laundering activities uncovered at Crown Casino Perth and Melbourne during the inquiry.... WA’s Racing and Gaming Minister, Paul Papalia, has labelled the findings of the report into Crown Resorts as deeply concerning, with calls now made to review or suspend the company’s licenses in Perth and Melbourne. There have been some calls to shutdown Perth’s casino but in a press conference this morning WA Premier Mark McGowan said the best approach is a sensible one: A responsible approach is to review the report and stamp out any criminality or unlawful conduct but also take into account people’s jobs. The state’s gaming and wagering commission will spend the next fortnight looking into the report.

13.01.2022 TWITTER SUSPENDS TRUMP'S ACCOUNT OVER REPEATED AND SEVERE VIOLATIONS Twitter has taken the extraordinary step of suspending US President Donald Trump's Twitter account following riots at the US Capitol in Washington, DC. "We have required the removal of three (Donald Trump) Tweets that were posted earlier today for repeated and severe violations of our Civic Integrity policy," Twitter's safety team published. "This means the account of Donald Trump will be locked for 12 hours." The social network went on to say future violations will result in the permanent suspension of his account.
13.01.2022 SECURITY CHANGES AFTER WOMAN ESCAPED QUARANTINE Jenny D'ubios left hotel quarantine in Perth for nine hours after arriving from Spain and during her 14-day quarantine at the Pan Pacific Hotel. As a result a review was undertaken into hotel security and it found new protocols were needed for dealing with people who are likely to and/or do breach quarantine; improving physical barriers at hotels and increased powers to security guards contracted to quarantine hotels.

Sephora opened its first Australian store in 2014, in Sydney’s Pitt Street Mall. Since then, over 20 stores have popped up around the country in Victoria, Queensland, NSW and South Australia. West Australian’s first taste of Sephora came in the form of a pop-up store in Claremont Quarter in 2019, but beauty fans have been forced to wait for a stand-alone store. The store is set to open later this year.

12.01.2022 ARRESTS MADE DURING NEW YEAR'S EVE NEARLY DOUBLED ON PREVIOUS YEAR Capacity limits saw many Western Australian’s celebrate New Year from home, which saw police attending to 88 more disturbances than the previous year. Acting Police Commander Tony Flack said that whilst there were no serious incidents and no deaths, we saw a large increase in the number of disturbances, mainly on residential properties and private homes," Last night there was a total of 101 people arrested and 236 charged, which nearly doubled the previous year's numbers which saw 51 people arrested and 148 people charged.

The Premier also announced that there would be a 50% reduction on international arrivals, with the decision to be reviewed February 15.

The Oxford Vaccine is expected to be rolled out around the UK from January 4 in a mass vaccination drive which will see two million people receive the dose. Australia has ordered 50 million doses of the vaccine, which is being manufactured by bio-pharmaceutical company CSL in Melbourne.
07.01.2022 The Department of Health is urging residents and travellers throughout Western Australia to take extra precautions to avoid mosquito bites over the coming months, due to an increased risk of contracting the Ross River Virus (RRV). The warning follows ongoing and increasing RRV detections in mosquitos and humans, indicating the virus is very active in the environment at the moment. The current risk of acquiring RRV is highest in the South West of WA, and along the coastal Mi...dwest and Gascoyne regions, from Jurien Bay to Denham. Symptoms of RRV disease can last for weeks to months, and include painful or swollen joints, sore muscles, skin rash, fever, fatigue and headaches. The only way to diagnose the disease is by visiting your doctor and having a specific blood test. There is currently no vaccine or specific treatment for RRV disease, the only way to prevent infection is to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes.

West Australia on the other hand has had under 300 fines handed out.... Individuals can be fined for not following rules such as quarantining after travel, while businesses can be forced to cough up cash for failing to make their premises COVID-safe. Infringements and associated fines vary from state to state, with Aussies in the NT facing costs of up to $5,056 while Tasmania's price sits below $800. Police have not carried through with all infringements issued throughout 2020, with almost 5,000 fines eventually withdrawn in Victoria alone.

Oscar Wylee admitted that between January 2014 and December 2018 it made statements in its social media posts, emails, on its website, and promotional merchandise that for each pair of glasses a consumer purchased, it donated another pair of glasses to someone in need, when it did not do so. In almost five yea...rs, Oscar Wylee sold 328,010 pairs of glasses but donated only 3,181 frames to charity, without lenses, which is about one set of frames for each 100 pairs of glasses sold. The misleading conduct also portrayed Oscar Wylee as a socially-conscious company that made significant donations of glasses to people in need, which, because this was not true, unfairly differentiated it from other brands in the market. ACCC Deputy Chair Delia Rickard said. Oscar Wylee admitted liability and made joint submissions with the ACCC to the Federal Court consenting to the orders.

One of the men, aged 50, was found unconscious in the water at around 8:00am at Mettams Pool in North Beach. ... The other man, in his 70s, suffered a medical emergency and was brought back to Hillarys Boat Ramp for assistance but could not be saved. Today was the second day of the abalone season, which is limited to five one hour sessions.
