23.01.2022 Our scouts recently held a Patrol Night when we were lucky enough to visit the Loui's Van kitchen https://www.vinnies.org.au/pa/Find_Help/TAS/Food/Louis_Van/. Loui’s Van is an after-hours mobile service providing food, clothes, sleeping bags, information and support to those in need. We helped make and prepare sandwiches for those less fortunate in the local area. It was an enlightening experience to learn what some of our fellow citizens are experiencing and made us apprec...iate our good fortune even more. We stored the food in the vans and waved off the amazing volunteers. We felt glad to help them out a little bit. We then had a fun tour of the Hobart Fire Station and dispatch area. We listened to some emergency phone calls and watched the firefighters respond. We discovered a lot about the life of a firefighter and inspected several firetrucks. The serious stuff then over, we popped over to McDonald's for a treat!

22.01.2022 Look at this morning's sunrise at the 2018 Scout Guide Regatta at Snug! Our Scouts must be pinching themselves.

21.01.2022 Our cubs recently went on a fun bush walk behind Geilston Bay. Building a fire was entertaining! They also attended camp where we invested two new chums on top of the Echo Sugarloaf at Randalls Bay. It was a spectacular spot for such an important occasion.

20.01.2022 Although summer's now a distant memory, we'd like to show you some snaps of our Group's fun sailing season. We are lucky enough to have our own boat, kayaks and boatshed, right on the foreshore of the River Derwent. A dedicated team of volunteer parents runs a water program for us every year - it's a true highlight. Just another reason to join the 10th Hobart Scout Group!

19.01.2022 Here's 10th Hobart competing in the tricky tug-of-war at the 56th Scout Guide Regatta. Like our style?

17.01.2022 Our scouts were luckily invited to join in Taroona Scouts' 2019 The Amazing Race around the Hobart waterfront. Our troop split up into two cars, chauffeured by our trusty leaders. We had to follow maps and clues around the city to find letters at special locations. Once we'd collected the letters, we raced to a decoding station at Constitution Dock where we realised the letters spelt 'Mures'. To our delight, we sprinted to Mures and discovered our troop had come second. We finished the night by treating ourselves to yummy fish and chips and icecream. It was a brilliant night. Thanks to Taroona Scouts for including us!

14.01.2022 Are your Scouts having a ball at the 2018 Scout Guide Regatta? Well, imagine seeing 8,500 Scouts having fun together for ten days and wishing it would never end! That's the magical promise of Australian Jamboree. The 25th Australian Jamboree will be held at Tailem Bend in South Australia in January 2019 and the Tasmanian contingent planning is already well underway.... Applications are open for the Jamboree - just head to https://www.aj2019.com.au/ to apply!

12.01.2022 Our scouts recently attended the Wellington District Camp at The Lea near Kingston with troops from Mt Faulkner, Mt Stuart, Sandy Bay, Glenorchy and Lenah Valley. We all carried our packs from the bottom Lea carpark to the top of the hill. We chose suitable campsites and pitched our tents in the pouring rain and howling wind (rather challenging). We roamed around with topographical maps, looking for checkpoints to complete challenges and earn points. Dinner cooked on Trangias... over our campfires comprised of sausages and rice. Thank goodness for the fire which kept out the cold and toasted our marshmallows! After a difficult night under canvas in windy weather, we completed more challenges involving knot tying, cooking, construction and risk management before heading home. The best part about this camp was that it was scout-led. We were allowed to run our own campsites, decide when we went to bed and contribute to activity ideas. A huge thanks to all the volunteer organisers as a tremendous amount of work was involved. We look forward to District Camp 2020!

11.01.2022 Billycarts! Aren't they the best fun? Our scouts recently constructed three billycarts as a team building exercise. We built, painted and then raced them at The Lea at night. It was a hairy exercise in the dark but exhilarating! We pushed them at top speed (lots of leg work) whilst trying not to crash into each other, trees and scurrying possums. The koala billycart won all four races. We can't wait for our next races to try out our new improved brakes!

09.01.2022 Meeting with other scouts from the local area is a lot of fun. We recently hosted a joint Quiz Night with Taroona scouts, parents and leaders. It was the fullest our hall has been for some time and it was well worth organising to see and hear the banter between the troops. We look forward to the next one!

08.01.2022 What does Opening Day 2019 mean to you? Not much? Well, to our group, it means sailing our beloved patrol boats, the C Prince and the Kay Cottee, on the stunning River Derwent with dozens of other vessels under sail to mark the opening of the Hobart yachting season. Skippered by our fabulous volunteers, John Pretty and Rohan Grant, a group of us did exactly that last weekend, having a glorious time. We zigzagged all over the harbour, dodging the spray (or some of us did!). Lo...ts of tacking was involved, together with fancy moves of the jibs. We sailed past the ML Egeria and saluted Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Kate Warner, Governor of Tasmania, as is customary. It was a thrill to be involved and we can't wait for next year! Let the season begin.

05.01.2022 One of 10th Hobart's summer highlights was attending the 56th Annual Scout Guide Regatta at Snug Beach. Scouts revelled in fun water activities by day and camped under tents by night. We competed with hundreds of scouts and guides from all over the state and some of us discovered skills we didn't know we had! We had a go at bucket relays, dinghy dashes, inner-tube dashes, rowing and tug-of-war. Here are some photos of what we got up to. Bring on Regatta 2020!

01.01.2022 This year, two of our scouts, India and Georgia, represented our troop by performing in the 2019 Hobart Gang Show with other scouts and guides at the Mt Nelson Theatre. After practising tirelessly for months on the weekend, they were thrilled to present 'Fair Game', based on one stressed-out parents trying to find six lost kids at a fairground, with humorous results. The show ran for four performances in front of families, friends and the wider community. They had an exhausting and exciting time, delighting many. Both girls had a marvellous time and intend to audition for next year's show. Go girls!
