06.01.2022 It is with sadness that we inform you of the passing of long time Whitsundays local Joe Hawkes Joe Hawkes, family established the Hawkes Boat Yard in the early ...1960's Eight years ago Mr Hawkes underwent a quadruple bypass, he had type two diabetes and suffered from severe emphysema. Born in Proserpine, Mr Hawkes and his father Graham founded Hawkes' Boatyard which is now in the Abell Point Marina complex. Buying the first block ever sold on Paluma Rd in 1980, Mr Hawkes had plans for a coconut plantation but this idea never became a reality. Rest In Peace Joe

05.01.2022 Hi all, I get asked quite often about sugar cane crops and cane fires. They are a magical thing to watch....the heat, the smell, the sound, I grew up with them and still love seeing one. Hope you enjoy this insight into cane fires. (This is my husband, Mark). He is a 4th generation cane farmer and his family have been on their farm since 1903. Enjoy! Thanks Donna
