25.01.2022 We are a no scruff clinic and like to teach our staff to correctly handle cats. Dr Tony and Head Nurse JJ are showing us how to properly purrfect a cat burrito or as we call them a purrito! We use Feliway on the towel and ourselves to help calm the cat and create a fear free environment around the patient. We were also lucky to have the rep from Feliway and Adaptil come in for some training today! #fearfree #vetlife #catsofinstagram #catclinic #cathandling #catcare #animalwellbeing #vetcare #animalbehaviour

24.01.2022 Steps to Successful Tooth Brushing featuring Murphy Brushing is important and often overlooked Brushing is important as it helps clean away the plaque that leads to bad breath or much more serious problems like dental disease. Here are some handy tips to guide you in brushing your canine’s canines! 1. Choose the right tools! It is best to use a toothbrush made for dogs, as these have softer bristles with a long and angled handle. Finger brushes can work as well for dogs ...under 10 kilos. Be sure to only use dog toothpaste, this comes in dog friendly flavours such as peanut butter and poultry. Human toothpaste has ingredients that can upset your dog’s stomach! 2. Choose the right and place time to brush. It is best to choose a time when the dog is nice and calm without the whole family running around the living room! It is also important to have good lighting to be able to see in your dog’s mouth. 3. Touch without the brush! It is best to start by rubbing your dog’s gums and upper lip with your finger to get the dog used to this. 4. Try just the paste! Start with just a little toothpaste on your finger, let your dog lick the paste off and get used to the taste. If your dog is anything like Murphy he will come back for more!! 5. Try it together. Once your dog is used to having their mouth touched, try using the toothpaste and brush together. 6. Start with brushing the top teeth. Lift the upper lip, brush the upper teeth and praise your dog. 7. Now try the rest! Brush in small circles getting the top and bottom on each side. As you move the bristles along the gum line, some light bleeding may occur. Slight bleeding every so often is OK. But ongoing or heavy bleeding may mean you’re brushing too aggressively or it may be a sign of gum disease. Speak with your vet for advice. 8. Focus on the plaque! If your dog starts to resist try starting on the canines and back teeth where plaque collects. If you can get to the insides of the teeth than that is great, but do not stress! Start with short brushing sessions and work your way up to more thorough cleanings. 9. Reassure your pet. Talk to your pet while brushing their teeth. Murphy likes to be told he is a good boy while I brush his teeth. It helps keep him calm and happy, assuring him this is a good thing. 10. End on positive note! What is better than a treat or a cuddle after being such a good dog. Certain chews and treats such as oravet can also help you fight plaque build-up. And don't forget to schedule regular professional dental cleanings! If you have any questions, concerns or would like to book a dental check-up please give us a call at 9326 1255. All the best Dr Ashley + Murphy

18.01.2022 This little girl Eyela got dropped off to Vet HQ Darlinghurst after being found alone on the streets of Darlinghurst. Since being with Darlo we have performed both an eye surgery to fix a hurt eye and she has been desexed. We have also covered her for potential parasites and microchipped her. About her: Eyela is around 6 months old. She is so affectionate and loves a cuddle and pat. Despite missing an and being blind in the other she is inquisitive and playful. She even nav...igates her way around new surroundings like a pro lion -bumping into a wall or two (she can hear you laugh though) We want her to go to a loving new home so can bring some joy to someones life and give her the attention she needs. Prefurrably the home would have no other animals around but other humans are ok. Please call VetHQ Darlo on 93582566 to enquire and come visit her! #adopt #adoptme #adoptdontshop #adoption #kittenforadoption #kittensofinstagram #catadoption

13.01.2022 Today is R U OK day. Today Vet HQ is encouraging all of our community to check in on someone your wouldn't normally have checked in on and make sure they are OK. We are so grateful for our fantastic community of clients, friends, family and of course suppliers. It is an honour and privilege to be the primary carers for your furry, feathered and scaley family members. It is also a day that if you have time, check in on the amazing Vet HQ staff. It may appear on the surface t...o be all puppies and kittens and licks and cuddles. The profession is very misunderstood and it is infact a tough and exhausting job, both mentally and physically. Sadly, we loose over 50% of vets before 5 years and we have one of the highest suicide rates per profession. Thank you team and today we will practice COVID SAFE R U OK hugs. #ruokday #ruokday2020 #vethqcares #

11.01.2022 New 5.0-star Review: "VetHQ is an excellent veterinary, where we can trust our Birmans are always in such good hands. When one of them went through a rough patch due to a urinary stone at the start of COVID-19, it was so comforting knowing he was receiving the highest quality care from the team. I've now encountered many of the vets and nurses across both Double Bay and Darlinghurst locations, and everyone is so considerate, thorough and friendly. Well done and highly recommend VetHQ!"

03.01.2022 Update. Friends, Dr Liz has, as of last Friday, gone on maternity leave. We are sorry that we gave you no notice but it seems the twins are a bit excited to enter the world and Liz’s doctors thought it would be better if she slowed down a bit. ... As you know we have an excellent team ready and waiting to take on her cases. If there are any concerns please let us know. Geoff and the Vet HQ team
