09.01.2022 12 Week Healthy Living Program Week 2: March 1 2016 We had a few new faces this week in our second week of our 12 Week Healthy Living Program. This week was reflexology and we began by learning about what reflexology was. An alternative therapy where pressure is applied to an individual’s hands and feet, which then physically effects the individual. This technique can be applied to address anxiety, headaches, stress and pain. We split into pairs, greased our hands and then t...ook turns completing a simple ten-step hand massage program on our partners. Massaging and holding hands with a stranger was a quick way to get to know the person in front of me. Soon we had a repertoire of busy nothings soon forgetting that it was our first meeting. I was informed that I had magical hands and that my partner was relaxed to the point of sleepiness. She told me that her husband should also learn the ten-step program and that she would have to be his guinea pig. We didn’t neglect the social aspect of the program. We had a lengthy chat afterwards with the accompaniment of refreshments, including tea, fruit, and biscuits. Afterwards everybody was sent home with a copy of the program for themselves or their significant others to practice on each other. We look forward to seeing everybody next week, and hopefully some new faces when we take part in an introduction to yoga.

09.01.2022 Our 12 Week Healthy Program has commenced 12 Week Healthy Living Week 1: Feb 23 2016 Well, Well, Well Thanks to everyone that attended and all who helped make week one a success. We began with registration and an explanation about how the program was being delivered. A Q & A followed about why each session had a particular topic or activity. I explained how we offer about twenty different activities to a group of strangers and ask them to rank them in order from one to twent...y, one being a more desirable activity to partake in and twenty being the least desirable. We then choose our top twelve and ‘voila,’ we have the bones for our twelve week healthy living program. We then moved onto our meet and greet icebreaker activities. Challenging ourselves to the spider’s web where we all gathered into a group circle. Here a person is handed a piece of string and begins talking. If a person interrupts the string then continues across to that participant and this motion keeps going until all of the participants have spoken and the outcome is a mesh of string connecting all the participants (you guess it like a spider’s web). I particularly enjoyed Josephine’s conversation with the string itself, even though she became annoyed that the string did not talk back to her. The second icebreaker we took on was the draw sheet. We formed three groups, from here a member of each group was given a sheet of paper and a pen. The idea was that as the presenter (that was me) says start, you must begin drawing a line, stop is then called and the sheet is handed to the next group member and the process is repeated until all group members have had a turn. The idea is to see if a group can create a recognisable picture. Well, we had an assortment of Picasso and abstract art with one group almost capturing an outline of a face (if you squinted and looked at it at an angle). All in all we had a fantastic week one outcome. New friendships were made we had an amazing fruit platter, coffee and teas prepared for us by Irma that allowed everyone to gather, have a chat and get to know each other. A great way to enhance our neuroplasticity by socialism, a vital component of our program. Looking forward to next week as we discover, find out and have a go at reflexology. So hope to see you all again and even some new faces, as we progress through our twelve week journey together. David Patras

04.01.2022 12 Week Healthy Living Week 3: 08/03/2016 This week we welcomed Ahimsa, our instructor for this week’s yoga session. In a gentle introductory session Ahimsa took us through gentle stretches and deep relaxation techniques. It didn’t matter that there were different ranges of ability and mobility, there was something for everybody to do. Yoga benefits us in countless ways, on a mental, physical, and spiritual level. It keeps the body fit and strong whilst practicing yoga poses.... It also gives us a time for mental rest and stillness, during deep relaxation and meditation. When completing the yoga session, you are left with a feeling of relaxation and serenity, with less mental and physical tension in your body. Overall it was a great session, and we hope to see more new faces next week.
