23.01.2022 Hi Guys I don't comment on Facebook much but i'm surprised i haven't seen anything on an electrical cable recall that could effect 40 thousand households in Australia. https://www.accc.gov.au/up/infinity-electrical-cable-recall... So if you've had any electrical work that involved installing cable from 2010 to 1013 in Australia or 2012 to 2013 in Queensland you need to read this recall and if necessary contact your electrician to confirm/inspect your house for this sub-standard cable. The same goes for cable you may have bought from certain retailers. Don't panic and run out to turn your power off, expert advice is this cable may become brittle from 2016 onwards so we have some time to sort this out. Under no circumstances should you inspect the cable yourself and never go into the ceiling without turning off your Main Switch. Your electrician who installed your cable will be able to inspect your house for this cable and replace if necessary under the recall notice and if you can't get onto them i just happen to have started my own electrical business ;)

06.01.2022 This weeks tip to save you money is to not forget to check your sacrificial anode in your hot water system. Manufacturers recommend replacement between 4 and 10 years. If you don't the next thing you'll be doing is calling an electrician for a new element or a plumber for a new hot water system. My customer did this one after I mentioned it to him. The system was electrically isolated, cool with the water turned off and pressure relieved. Usually a plumber will do this but I know plenty of handy guys who have done there own.

02.01.2022 This is one of the reasons you should never go in your ceiling space without isolating the power at your switchboard. I keep a rodent bait station in my ceiling next to my manhole cover all the time as I've seen too many houses with dangerous rodent damaged wiring :( This is a ceiling I had to do some work in this week.
