13.01.2022 2021 SEO Checklist for Content Writing As small businesses head into 2021 with endless hope that this pandemic ends, marketing dollars are scarce. And from the looks of things, this marketing spend will continue its scarcity throughout 2021, especially if additional statewide or citywide shutdowns occur.... One advantage of this situation? Refining your business website’s content writing with the latest trends of SEO in mind. Many SMBs either have content writers and/or SEO professionals on staff, or work with digital marketing agencies. Regardless of the situation, one thing you should not do during this pandemic is to become lazy. In 2021, your brand authority will matter more than ever. For most SMBs, the focus is on strengthening the overall company name itself versus the actual human being or beings behind the companies. This is a mistake. The more you can center a single person as the expert and authoritative figure that represents a business, the better. Founders and CEOs typically follow this role, something familiar with giant corporations (think Howard Schultz, Elon Musk, or Tim Cook). Most smaller businesses, though, have multiple voices representing their company. This occurs across all marketing material, with the largest offender being the blog. If you have various experts on staff or freelancing for you, having separate authors for topics is ideal. Now that I covered brand authority, it’s time to move into optimizing your website’s content following some trends for 2021. The following speaks to both page and blog content. All guidance derives from the trends I’ve witnessed with clients and other website rankings over the year, and I expect much of this to stick throughout 2021. To keep things organized, I advise my writers to think SERP info first, then follow the page from top to bottom. Begin with the title tag and meta description, and move down through the actual page as you would see it on the screen. Following is the checklist for optimizing each content element as we throttle into 2021. 1. Keyword Research Optimization 2. Title Tag Optimization 3. Meta Description Optimization 4. Header Tag Optimization 5. Internal Links/Image Optimization 6. Body of Content Optimization Need help with your website optimisation? https://123internet.com.au

10.01.2022 How Google Chooses to Rank Images and Videos in Search Results Google’s John Mueller provided a detailed answer about how Google chooses to rank images and videos in the search results. The question was about how Google chooses to show images in the search results pages (SERPs).... In general, what happens when we show multiple kinds of search results on a page, such as kind of that image box and the normal text results, sometimes the video results as well, that comes in kind of So essentially what happens when someone types in a query on Google is we send that query to a lot of different indexes a lot of different search systems within Google. And we try to send it out to as many of these systems as possible on the one hand so that we get answers from them. On the other hand, that we also get quick results the web results come back really quickly and images take a longer time because I don’t know, somehow images are a bit slower today. Then at least we have the web results that we can show. But essentially we send it out to all of these different systems and the systems tell us how relevant the results are that they have. Google's John Mueller So the image search system might come back and say, oh Image results are, hmm kind of important for this query and here’s a set of images that I have for that. And if we get the web results back and the web results say, oh, web results are super relevant for this query, then we might show the web results and not the image results. On the other hand, if we hear back from these different systems and they say, oh, image results are super important for this query and the web results are kind of okay as well, then we will almost certainly show kind of an image one-box somewhere in the search results. It might be on top if we think that’s super critical, it might be somewhere in the middle, anything like that. And the same thing happens for video and I imagine for the different other types of one-boxes and things that we have as well I don’t know, maybe Top Stories, I don’t know how all of that flows in. But essentially all of these different systems come back to that one central place and say, here are my results and here’s how relevant I think they are. And based on that we try to figure out which of these elements we should show. So that’s kind of how the images flow in there. It’s not that someone is manually saying, oh we should show images for this query and not for that one. It’s really these systems are trying to understand how relevant the results are that they can bring back and based on that we try to make an automated decision. And that’s also why this can change over time, where if you search for something now, then maybe we won’t show images. And if we recognize that everyone is actually looking for images for this query, then over time we will start showing images in the web search results as well.
10.01.2022 WordPress 5.6 May Break Sites on December 2020 WordPress 5.6 will make jQuery Migrate Helper Plugin "useless" which means some sites may break again. WordPress 5.5 rolled in August 2020 and soon after millions of websites across the Internet broke. Get ready because WordPress 5.6 has the potential to do the same thing.... One of the WordPress developers behind the jQuery Migrate Plugin said in a support thread that the plugin would become useless once 5.6 rolls out. Anyone still depending on it in December will experience the rubber bands snapping off their sites all over again. Why WordPress 5.5 Broke Websites WordPress is on a planned three phase modernization of the use of jQuery. jQuery is a set of scripts that gives websites functionality like animation, provides interactive elements to web pages, makes creating plugins and themes easier because it handles features common to websites and manipulate CSS with it. Older versions of jQuery are still being used in many plugins and themes. Older jQuery libraries contain Cross Site Scripting (XSS) and Denial of Service (DoS) vulnerabilities, which can be dangerous for websites. WordPress 5.5 was the first step toward modernizing WordPress by forcing the entire WordPress ecosystem to update their code and get on board with the latest and safest version of jQuery. Why WordPress 5.6 Might Break Some Sites WordPress 5.6 will roll out step two of modernizing the use of jQuery by updating the jQuery Migrate library to the latest version, 3.3.1. The effect of doing that is that sites that are relying on the Enable jQuery Migrate Helper to keep their sites from falling apart are going to suffer all over again. Will WordPress 5.6 Break Your Site? If you’re currently using the Enable jQuery Migrate Helper plugin and when logged into your admin panel you see error messages, then yes, you may experience unexpected website behavior when WordPress updates to version 5.6. On the other hand, if the Enable jQuery Migrate Helper isn’t reporting any errors that means your themes and plugins have updated their jQuery libraries and the site should function well.
