23.01.2022 Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! 2020 has been a challenging, adaptive, but overall successful year for cadets. 129ACU was able to return to cadets, conduct training and continue to grow in numbers, considering some of the limitations and implications that COVID-19 presented to the Cadet program. Have a safe and happy holidays, and bring on 2021 for a bigger and better year of fun activities and Cadet development.
23.01.2022 We will remember them. Lest We Forget.

14.01.2022 Remembrance Day On November 7th, 1920, in strictest secrecy, four unidentified British bodies were exhumed from temporary battlefield cemeteries at Ypres, Arras..., the Asine and the Somme. None of the soldiers who did the digging were told why. The bodies were taken by field ambulance to GHQ at St-Pol-Sur-Ter Noise. Once there, the bodies were draped with the union flag. Sentries were posted and Brigadier-General Wyatt and a Colonel Gell selected one body at random. The other three were reburied. A French Honour Guard was selected and stood by the coffin overnight of the chosen soldier overnight. On the morning of the 8th November, a specially designed coffin made of oak from the grounds of Hampton Court arrived and the Unknown Warrior was placed inside. On top was placed a crusaders sword and a shield on which was inscribed: "A British Warrior who fell in the GREAT WAR 1914-1918 for King and Country". On the 9th of November, the Unknown Warrior was taken by horse-drawn carriage through Guards of Honour and the sound of tolling bells and bugle calls to the quayside. There, he was saluted by Marechal Foche and loaded onto HMS Vernon bound for Dover. The coffin stood on the deck covered in wreaths, surrounded by the French Honour Guard. Upon arrival at Dover, the Unknown Warrior was met with a nineteen gun salute - something that was normally only reserved for Field Marshals. A special train had been arranged and he was then conveyed to Victoria Station, London. He remained there overnight, and, on the morning of the 11th of November, he was finally taken to Westminster Abbey. The idea of the unknown warrior was thought of by a Padre called David Railton who had served on the front line during the Great War the union flag he had used as an altar cloth whilst at the front, was the one that had been draped over the coffin. It was his intention that all of the relatives of the 517,773 combatants whose bodies had not been identified could believe that the Unknown Warrior could very well be their lost husband, father, brother or son. The tomb of the unknown soldier in the Hall of Memory at the Australian War Memorial might seem to the casual visitor the timeless and natural symbolic centre of the memorial. But it was not always so: it was only in 1993 that the body of an unknown Australian soldier was repatriated and entombed here. We do not glorify war. We remember - with humility - the great and the ultimate sacrifices that were made, not just in this war, but in every war and conflict where our service personnel have fought - to ensure the liberty and freedoms that we now take for granted. Every year, on the 11th of November, we remember the Unknown Warrior. At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them.
14.01.2022 Like all other Australians, 129 Army Cadet Unit have commemorated ANZAC Day differently this year. Although not all our cadets had ceremonial uniform, they still stood proud and remembered the ANZAC’s. Thank you to everyone who took part in the Anzac Day Driveway Service/ Vigil 2020.... 06.01.2022 Unfortunately, Covid-19 has once again impacted on our courses and due to Greater Brisbane going into lockdown for three days, the decision has been made to al...so cancel the rotation B of the course. We would like to thank and acknowledge the enormous amount of work the training team has done in the lead up to the courses and understand that is disappointing once again for all those involved including the cadets candidates. We are currently working through options for the courses to ensure our cadets can receive the training.

02.01.2022 This year, commemorating ANZAC Day will be like no other in modern history. We will be coming together in spirit, but not marching together side by side or moun...ting Catafalque Parties to honour our Veterans and Service personnel for their sacrifices. We can however, individually "Light up the Dawn" in our own residence. Our Cadet Leadership group have stated that to them, ANZAC Day means: "Honouring, commemorating and remembering those brave Australian and New Zealand soldiers, sailors and airmen who shaped our countries." "A time for us to honour the past and present servicemen and women and to pass on the spirit of the Anzac's with the next generation." "Remembrance, respect, camaraderie, and most importantly selfless sacrifice." Just because we are not commemorating together, it does not lessen our gratitude to those men and women who have served: those currently serving; those deployed on Operations domestically and overseas; and those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice to ensure we enjoy our freedom today. I am confident that the ANZAC Spirit is alive in each and every AAC SQLD BDE Cadet and Staff member. While this torch burns brightly among us, the sacrifices of our past and present Servicemen and women will never be forgotten or taken for granted. We will remember them. LEST WE FORGET. Rob Brennan COLONEL Commander Australian Army Cadets SQLD BDE
