16.01.2022 Today is National Tree Day for schools. In lieu of Covid restrictions, Planet Ark has cancelled their normal tree planting events but have asked instead for families and children to celebrate trees and connect with nature by sharing photos of " hugging a tree". As a school we love trees, particularly our gorgeous oak tree which is the centre piece for our community. Next week ‘Trees’ will be the theme for our Bush School. If you would like to hear more about how we could support and nurture your child call 0397301238

16.01.2022 Rain, hale or shine our school environment is a gorgeous place to explore and the perfect setting for nurturing inquisitiveness and imagination.

15.01.2022 Wellbeing is always at the heart of everything we do at CHPS. Today is R U OK? Day and it is a great reminder to check on the people all around us and ask are you ok?, listen, respond and check in.

15.01.2022 As we prepare for remote learning it is important that we all take some time to look after our own physical and mental wellbeing. Today our staff took some time out from planning to discuss strategies they find useful in their daily lives such as meditation and walks. They also did some yoga with Carla. Take care of yourselves and your families during these challenging times.

14.01.2022 Remote learning has provided each of our students with the opportunity to share their Bush school experiences with their families. We are sharing their journeys on our blog. While Covid -19 has thrown many challenges our way it is also reminding us to take time to explore our amazing environment and be grateful that we live and learn in such a lovely area and community. 12.01.2022 Our commitment to nurturing and supporting the growth of each student through an individualised and holistic approach to learning was successfully transferred to remote learning in Term 2 and will be again in Term 3. Whilst this is not how we hoped to begin the term; together we will make the best of our latest learning adventure. Stay safe and connected.

12.01.2022 During remote learning we are committed to keeping our students connected with their friends. Yesterday was Pet Show Day in Bunjil (via webex). We had Ash the Silky Hen Ginger Cookie the baby bunny Dogs- Bonnie Chaos Spud José and a couple of well behaved stuffed pets. All 6 came. It all stemmed from a students suggestion. This is another example of how Christmas Hills Primary encourages student voice and agency which develops independent and motivates learners.

11.01.2022 Our Quip Quip students have been working hard on their writing program over the last few weeks. Our SPARKS model focusses on students using the processes of; sketch, think, talk, write and revise. This is based on educational research which tells us that students develop strong writing skills through explicit teaching and opportunities to talk through their ideas. Today was our book launch celebration. Well done everyone.

11.01.2022 I’m currently having a very productive school play writing session with Vardy and Luka. We can all see each other via our video conference app ‘WebEx’ and we can all access the same google document. Our students have done an excellent job at adapting to new technology and are participating with enthusiasm. I’m very proud of them!

10.01.2022 Another fabulous Bush School session today. Adam introduced us to whittling and it was certainly a hit. We also began our nature journals which will be a record of our observations over time as we explore how the environment changes during the seasons.

06.01.2022 Today we celebrated NAIDOC week with a day of activities. The day was planned and lead by a student which was a powerful demonstration of how effective student agency is at CHPS. Cultural stories, games and crafts all helped us to learn more about the Aboriginal culture. Our students learn as part of a nurturing and supportive learning community. Well done everyone

03.01.2022 This term we have been learning to sign some well known songs in Auslan. We were hoping to perform them to a live audience but with Covid restrictions we have been forced online.

03.01.2022 Learning Adventures is always a bit and a terrific opportunity for students to lead a whole school learning experience. This week a grade 1 student taught us all how to plant potatoes in old chicken feed bags.

01.01.2022 Supporting student wellbeing is always a priority at Christmas Hills Primary School. Today we had a whole school webex session with Brooke from the kids helpline. We explored some strategies for managing our emotions. Thank you to those parents who were able to join us. It was another example of how our school community supports each other.
