22.01.2022 On a recent forum a mother asked "is my baby allergic to my breastmilk"? Jack Newman is a General Practitioner in Canada who has worked in the field of human lactation for the last 30 years and is considered an expert in this field. I thought this a good opportunity to share one of the documents on his webpage http://www.breastfeedinginc.ca/content.php?pagename=doc-CBB

20.01.2022 Prior to 2008 a parent helpline was operated from the mother and baby unit which was based in Clayfield. In 2008 the child health line was integrated into 13HEALTH. There was a perception amongst staff that if we had our own identity more families would know of and use the service. The staff identified that the name of the service could be 13Child. The implementation of midwifery models now sees the care of the infant remain with the midwife until six weeks of age.... This represents a change as families are not universally referred to the child health team on discharge. THE OPPORTUNITY The creation of the 13Child web page is an opportunity to showcase the knowledge and expertise of my colleagues. The webpage has international relevance. All families would have access to valid and reliable information and this will improve health outcomes for all. The Request Please join me at The Hilton Hotel 190 Elizabeth St, Sunday March 20 at 2p.m. to make the web page a reality.
19.01.2022 I had a chat with my niece who is the mother of 2 adorable little girls. We had a discussion about the use of baby walkers. Baby walkers give infants mobility before they have developed the spatial awareness to deal with this and their was a high rate of accidents and injury associated with their use reported in the 80s and 90s. Ally was surprised that products that can do harm to children are allowed to be sold. The Australian Consumer Commission has amended guidelines in... February 15, 2013. https://www.productsafety.gov.au//index.phtml/itemId/973760 Baby walkers are intended for children who have not yet learned to walk. The infants feet dont touch the floor, the tops of the toes do and so the infant learns to pivot the baby walker with the use of the toes. In prolonged use of baby walkers these infants have programmed their walking to be on the tips of their toes. So save money. Put a rug on the floor and surround the infant with lovely tuppeware containers and a spoon and your child will be learning spatial awareness; mobility; head and neck control and your Tupperware cupboard will enjoy some relief.

17.01.2022 Following my conversation with my niece I saw a 12month old salivating all over her amber teething beads. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has issued the following statement "Amber teething necklaces and bracelets consist of amber beads which are a fossilised tree resin and range in colour from yellow to white and beige to brown. The warning notice was issued after ACCC testing of several of these products indicated that they could break into small parts an...d present a choking hazard to children under three years of age. Suppliers claim that when worn close to the skin, succinic acid will be released by the amber beads to relieve the symptoms of teething. Some suppliers also make claims for other conditions including eczema and asthma. Consumers using this product are advised to: always supervise the infant when wearing the necklace or bracelet remove the necklace or bracelet when the infant is unattended, even if it is only for a short period of time remove the necklace or bracelet while the infant sleeps at day or night not allow the infant to mouth or chew the necklace or bracelet consider using alternate forms of pain relief seek medical advice if you have concerns about your childs health and wellbeing.

15.01.2022 I am behind schedule for the 13 Child web page creation. This is a shout out to my nursing colleagues. Is there a web site that you found invaluable in assisting parents that MUST be accessible on the 13Child Web page directory? Thank you all for your continued support.
14.01.2022 Hi All. I have committed to have my 13Child webpage in existence by September 3. I require photos of babies in the following age range 0-14 days;14 days to 3 months;3 months to 6 months;6 months to 9 months;9months to 12 months; 1 year to 2 years; 2 years to 3 years and 3-5 years. I am aware that this is an unreasonable request and will rely on the generosity of those wonderful parents out there. The photos of my own children are a little dated! If you wish to contribute my email address is [email protected] Thank you all for your wonderful support. Looking forward to bringing this baby home( 13 web page).
14.01.2022 A factor that influences growth and development in babies is opportunity for example, putting baby on her tummy to play. It can feel awkward talking with a 3 month old when the perception is that the baby doesnt understand. This is an opportunity for parents to reclaim their childhood and be as wonderfully spontaneous as you can be..blow raspberries back, goo and coo and be completely unleashed with your loving praise. Reading to babies extends the words a baby hears and can be built in to the bedtime routine from a very early age. The raising children network is a great resource and this page discusses speech development. http://raisingchildren.net.au//language_development_3_to_1
13.01.2022 Does it matter if it takes a little longer to get babies to sleep by helping them with compassion? Is there anything more important we could be doing with our t...ime than helping our vulnerable babies when they need us most? Does it matter if we miss a rerun of yet another TV show? And instead lay with our babies while they fall asleep? What are we setting our kids up for if we teach them theyre on their own from the start? http://raisedgood.com/cave-babies-cry-it-out-and-ruffling-/

11.01.2022 www.purplecrying.info//additional/articles-and-authors.php Crying and fussing in infants is a challenge for parents and the health professionals and the families they support. It has been suggested that millions of dollars could be saved if we had a better understanding of crying behaviour in infants. We are very privileged to have Ian St. James-Roberts, PhD, FBPsS London, England, Professor of Child Psychology who has undertaken much of this research visiting Australia.... He will be participating in a discussion with Pamela Douglas 6p.m.on March 30, 2016 at the Possums Clinic in Highgate Hill. Pamela and the Professor approach infant sleep from very different perspectives and I suspect a very feisty exchange of views. Tickets can be purchased from the Possum clinic.

09.01.2022 Renee Flacking is a nurse who works in neonatal nurseries in Sweden and the United Kingdom. She is facilitating the introduction of true "Kangaroo care" in neonatal nurseries in these countries. The tradition of humidicribs evolved from the circus where extraordinary animals were cased in hot houses so that humans could pay to see them. This tradition was transferred to the human infant population. We now know that putting a baby skin to skin helps regulate his temperature, regulates his heartbeat, calms his cortisol levels and gives him a little bath of oxytocin from time to time. Neonatal nurseries will have to be creative in managing the current environment so that mum and dad partner in providing skin to skin contact. New neonatal nursery designs should incorporate this parental and infant need.

03.01.2022 We had the privilege to perform an onsite training for military personnel in Hawaii sponsored by Regional Health Command-Pacific to help facilitate the implemen...tation of the Period of #PURPLEcrying within the community. We couldnt be prouder of the effort being made to ensure that new families in #Hawaii will be given the PURPLE Crying education. Warren Aoki, RHC-P social work consultant lead says the PURPLE program will help prevent abuse. Says Aoki, "It can be hard to remember that crying is normal and that feeling frustrated as a parent over it is also normal. Improving knowledge on this critical phase can help to prevent child abuse, shaken baby syndrome and abusive head trauma. This is an outcome we want to see happen for all families." See more
03.01.2022 The cough and cold season is approaching and parents will have the need to manage a sick child. With drug companies advertising the effectiveness of their medication on children of course parents want to relieve the discomfort associated with being unwell. This paper demonstrates that there is some benefit in alternating the two most common drugs used for this purpose however suggests that these medications be withheld until the temperature is 38.5 and the child has symptoms of aches and pains.
03.01.2022 Please post on the 13 Child Facebook page if you have suggested web sites that have been useful to parents for inclusion in the web page directory . The 13 Child baby is post mature..as are most first babies. It will be appropriately mature when it is finally birthed. Stay posted.
