23.01.2022 The live webcam we installed this year captured a lightning strike yesterday. Watch the timestamp for 3:05pm (15:05:30) in the top right corner. See the live feed at https://www.14lovelst.com/bluemountainswebcam

21.01.2022 Dan and Beck aka Travel Made Me Do It packed a LOT into their 3 day stay. They are the 'Speed Hiking Couple' - I hadn't heard of speed hiking before - but that makes a lot of sense looking at what covered! Check out their blog as well for help planning your trips. "Burramoko Fire Trail (Hanging Rock): Out & Back | 10km | 2.5 hours. The Burramoko Trail will lead you to the Baltzer Lookout. From here, extreme caution must be taken if you decide to descend the trai...l to the Hanging Rock." Dan & Beck win our guest photo comp this week. Check it out when you stay with us. #speedhiking #fastpacking #trailrunning #bluemountains #camping #hostelgroup #14lovelst #tbt #hostellife #visitbluemountains #holidayherethisyear #lovensw #getoutside

07.01.2022 From 16 November to 16 December, Bush Heritage Australia, a not-for-profit conservation organisation, is challenging people like you to get out and walk, run or roll every day in solidarity with our hardworking reserve staff and ecologists. Challenge yourself to be active every day and raise money for the groundwork being done to protect our precious threatened species. Seems like a great idea to Annette, so she signed up! Any support you can manager by making a tax deduc...tible donation is greatly appreciated - link in bio - or sign up yourself.... and get up to the Blue Mountains to get in some kms (you know where to stay)! #groundworkchallenge #getfit #getoutside #visitbluemountains #charity #fundraising

06.01.2022 @jeremymurrayphotography The icon of the Blue Mountains, the Three Sisters (Meenhi, Wimlah and Gunnedoo) are visited by millions of visitors every year. There are variations on the story, but the most often quoted is that the Sisters were in love with three brothers from a different tribe. Their love was forbidden, but the brothers tried to win the Sisters during a battle. They were turned to stone to protect them by the tribal 'clever man', but he was killed in the batt...le and they were forever left in stone. Beautiful at any time of the day, the Three Sisters are also lit at night (until 11pm). We love to see different views of the Three Sisters. 04.01.2022 #tbt to this day in 2019 - reassuring visitors that, at that time, we were doing OK... Who knew the hell ahead...and then the floods, and then a global pandemic . Still here still smiling (that counts) 19/11/2019 post: Business as usual in the Blue Mountains. Some visitors but not nearly as many as should be here for this time of year. We are alert always to the possible threat of bushfires as local residents of the Blue Mountains. This is our home. This is our family.... This is also our small business and it’s a shame that people are not coming up from Sydney to see our beautiful backyard. As you can see, the skies are clear up here not choked with smoke like Sydney! . What’s happening in other areas is devastating and I hope we won’t experience that ourselves. The situation, particularly in the north coast, is unprecedented - but that is not true of everywhere. The media reports would have you believe it is. We understand that visitors especially don’t know the distance or real threat. Even our own family and friends from overseas are contacting us, thinking all of Sydney and surrounding areas are going up in flames . . The @nswnationalparks closed the Park last week during catastrophic potential risk, which thankfully didn’t eventuate for us. We support the decision. Of course we also appreciate and support @nswrfs . They are amazing. Be sensible. Longer walks to more remote areas are not recommended in the current conditions but, for now, awesome walks in and around Katoomba, Leura, Blackheath, Wentworth Falls are open as usual. And there are still wonderful galleries, shops, restaurants, exhibitions etc to see in the Mountains. . We remain alert and hope to see you soon! . . . . #14lovelst #sydney #bluemountains #bushfire #rfs #npws #smallbusiness #shoplocal #fire #nsw #visitnsw #holidayherethisyear #2020 #covid

01.01.2022 The end of NAIDOC week today. It’s been an interesting week of learning, and that doesn’t stop today. . Another Katoomba location you should visit to better understand the Aboriginal history of the Blue Mountains is The Gully. Before white settlement, The Gully was a Summer camp for the Gundungurra and Darug peoples. In 1957, the relatively peaceful co-existence was shattered. The traditional owners were forcibly removed from the Gully to make way for a racetrack organised by... a group of local businessmen, supported by the then Blue Mountains City Council. The trauma caused to the land and to the community of people who were living in and around the Gully was profound and still reverberates. The Gully was declared an Aboriginal Place in 2002. The Gully Aboriginal Interpretive Walk tells the story of the Gully. A 1km very easy loop. At the entrance a welcome Everyone who walks this path is invited to learn from the history of The Gully, to enjoy and respect ts natural environment, and to remember that you are in a place that will always e home to Aboriginal peoples. Always Was. Always Will Be. #alwayswasalwayswillbe #NAIDOC2020 #NAIDOCWeek #NAIDOC #hostel #guesthouse #visitbluemountains #stayanightortwo #bluemountainsnsw #goblue #visitnsw #tourismnsw #thegully #nswtourism #nswparks
