24.01.2022 This year, with your support, we reached out to fire affected East Gippsland to offer them trees for their revegetation projects. As a result, Blue Sky Organic Farm were able to plant out 100 native trees and shrubs on their farm. Next year, we are aiming to help out with hundreds of more trees for this district. 13.01.2022 Friday's Biology Lesson. Large trees provide shade and protect neighbouring trees from weather extremes. They provide a more stable ‘micro-climate’ in their direct surrounds. The soil beneath old trees tends to be cooler in summer and warmer in winter. Large eucalypts also draw water from far below the soil and will out-survive younger trees. They do this by a process called hydraulic lift where the phloem or sapwood (vascular tissue) in the trunk of the tree acts like a gia...nt straw drawing water from roots extending far below the surface. This can also be beneficial to surrounding shallower rooted species and helps prevent dryland salinity. Planting trees is great ... protecting these giants is greater! In partnership with Fifteen Trees, they purchased 60 trees* for us to plant with community groups across 3 Australian states. 07.01.2022 Saying goodbye to our loved ones can be so hard. How heartening to think that part of them lives on in the goodwill and love of their friends. Sally Bodenham had such friends and together they raised the funds to plant 120 trees in the Ballarat District in her memory.
