25.01.2022 Today the new Murray Valley MTB Trails were officially opened, providing 35km of new trails in Dwellingup. The trails have been described as being world class and offer something for all levels of experience. The trails were funded by the Murray Valley Shire; Federal Government and State Government with Senator Matt O'Sullivan, Minister Stephen Dawson MLC And Shire President Councillor David Bolt all there to cut the ribbon this morning. With Sam Hill sending it down ‘Busted... Nuts’. Further to this the new Dwellingup Trails Centre first stage has opened. If you are looking for information prior to riding it’s definitely with dropping in. A cafe and bike shop will shortly open in the centre and showers are already available for a quick wash down before heading to the pub after a day of riding. Sincere appreciation must be extended to all of those involved in this project. The staff at both the Shire of Murray and the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions have worked tirelessly to bring these trails to life. If you plan to check out the new trails head to The Roost’ trail head. Just a 10 min drive out of the Dwellingup town centre. 12.01.2022 Works will soon commence on the Tonkin Gap project that will not only see road and bridge duplications from Great Eastern Highway and Railway Parade, but will also see the construction of a fully separated Principal Shared Path (PSP) connecting the recently constructed PSPs north and south and to the Midland Railway PSP. This large undertaking will see the existing paths in the area being closed and detours in place in several stages for approximately 18-24 months. In additio...n, the Alliance is also working on infrastructure to enable the Morely-Ellenbrook Line. Detours of the PSP between Railway Pde and Morley Drive are also required for a shorter period but will utilise the shared path on the eastern side of Tonkin Hwy where possible. WestCycle has been working with Main Roads WA and the Tonkin Gap Alliance to ensure good outcomes for bike riders both during works and at its completion. We will share updates of this project and the many other cycling infrastructure projects that are due to commence. 12.01.2022 As you may be aware, over the last two years the governance and running of cycling in Australia has been discussed at length, resulting in the formation of AusCycling at a National level. WestCycle’s role as the peak body for bike riding in Western Australia remains unchanged. What will change however, is that AusCycling will be responsible for the delivery of services to competitive bike riders from the 1st November. It’s important to note that WestCycle remains as committed... as ever to Clubs and competitive cycling, however we will respect that AusCycling is the organisation that will deliver many of the services to these members. This change allows WestCycle to re-divert our resources that are currently focused on competitive riding to deliver more outcomes for those that ride recreationally or to get from A to B. Now we have finalised the discussions in regard to the administration of cycling, we can get back to focusing on what is really important and that is better outcomes for the entire riding community. Read the full statement here: https://westcycle.org.au/auscycling-update-october/

08.01.2022 It goes without saying that the past few days have been absolutely monumental for WA cycling on the world stage. At just 24 years old, Jai Hindley (left), became the first ever West Australian to finish in a podium position at a Grand Tour. Over the past three weeks, we have watched him take out 7x top-10 stage finishes (including a win on stage 18 featuring the Stelvio - one of the most gruelling climbs in the whole of Europe), riding himself into the Maglia Rosa leader's ...jersey on the penultimate day of a Grand Tour where he was originally dedicated to a team role. Heartbreakingly, he was not able to hold on to the jersey on the final day, but this does not detract from his monumental achievement, of which all West Australians can be proud. On behalf of the entire WA riding community, congratulations Jai Hindley!
