10.01.2022 We filmed an historic day! The Jerrinja people on the south coast of NSW made a traditional canoe by hand. Elders remember their great grand parents doing this and the skills and knowledge have now been introduced by Luke Russell from Worramai. Their cultural knowledge was denied, discouraged and illegal. The Jervis Bay Maritime Museum deserves recognition for putting this project together (and funding from Bendigo Bank) and the canoe will be on display there. It was a 14 hr day and we were buggered so can only imagine the men. But it was also an emotional day and we were truly honoured to witness it. The shrieks of the kids when the canoe went in the water was in itself worth the effort #jerrinja #jervisbaymaritimemuseum #yourpastisyourpresent #yesterdaystories

04.01.2022 This year, History Week has morphed into History Month! For the whole of October, we'll be celebrating all things History. Due to the current COIVD-19 situation..., most activities will be held online - which will actually be great for getting to multiple events in a day, without having to battle traffic! You can 'travel' to regional Victoria to see what other Historical Societies have been up to without leaving your lounge room! We're going to see lots of events and talks for people to listen into, and lots of workshops for people to participate in. For all the details, head along to our website https://historymonth.org.au/ And if you have any queries or wish to list event, you can email [email protected]
