24.01.2022 A top of the day to each and every one of you. Many of you may realise that due to the impact of Covid19 SDSR have cancelled all tours up to the end of 2020. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help us continue doing what we do in restoration and maintenance of carriages, loco's and other essential projects at the Precinct. We are still operating Wednesday and Thursdays with our volunteers turning up as passionate and dedicated as ever, and there is still much to do. We than...k you for your support, interest and encouragement. If you feel to do so, would you please share the link to the GoFundMe page with others. gf.me/u/ytyw7s

24.01.2022 There are those that love our trains as much as we do. Follow the link and look at the video put together from the driver training day this month. We greatly appreciate the effort it takes to capture the video and put this together. Thank you to Stephen Shepherd for sharing this. https://m.youtube.com/watch

23.01.2022 Sight and sounds, machines and men. The workings of the crane echoed throughout the precinct again yesterday.

20.01.2022 SDSR carriage attendants had a Covid19 training tour today in preparation for tours to commence again in September. We are working to ensure safety of volunteers and passengers alike. It was good, as always, to see the public come to see this beautiful train in action.

17.01.2022 On the rail again. Just can't wait to get on the rail again. The life we love is making memories with our friends... And.we can't.wait to get on the rail again. I think it went.something like that. Maybe.

16.01.2022 PASSION PROJECT: The SDSR is one of the most beloved community organisations in Warwick. TESSA FLEMMING... 28th Aug 2020 4:00 PM Steam railway’s plea for help to survive COVID-19's wrath | Warwick Daily News ONE OF Warwick's major tourist attractions and custodians of history could soon reach the end of its tracks following devastating coronavirus losses. Volunteer-run Southern Downs Steam Railway launched a GoFundMe yesterday, asking the public for donations to keep doors open, after it was forced to cancel the remainder of its 2020 trips. Secretary and treasurer Kelvin Hutchinson said the organisation was in the peak of planning for a September reopening when Queensland's COVID-19 cluster started to grow again. "Things were starting to look good around the country," he said. "We had our new brochures out and had started television and radio marketing and then of course we had a flare up around southeast Queensland and our ticket sales just stopped dead." Unable to access government assistance to cover the "substantial" operating costs, the group is facing the devastating possibility the venture could close and its historical treasures lost to the Rose City. "We see ourselves as the custodians at this point in time and we want to keep them (the steam engines) in good order for the next generation to run and manage," Mr Hutchinson said. "We don't want to see it broken up and leave Warwick." For SDSR's 200 passionate members, many of whom travelled from Brisbane and Toowoomba to volunteer, that loss would be unbearable in more ways than one. "Most of our volunteers are in their 60s and 70s, and it is a big part of their lives," Mr Hutchinson said. "They don't want to be sitting at home, they want to be with like-minded friends who share their passion." The organisation also hosted federally lauded Work For the Dole and correctional services programs, and the flow-on effect to surrounding businesses would be noticed. "We partner with third party bus service and wineries," Mr Hutchinson said. "If we weren't there, the Wallangarra cafe would see a big impact. "If we can't pull in and stop, all those businesses in Clifton, Girraween, their success and passion, is affected, too." To donate to the GoFundMe, click here. 14.01.2022 SDSR was on my mind this morning as I drove home from Tenterfield. I got to thinking how wonderful it is to have volunteers deeply passionate about restoring and maintaining heritage rail. Very glad not everything is left to rot. Thank you team. Good job! The fog under the old rail bridge was delightful.
