25.01.2022 Yesterday was the 21st Anniversary of the commencement of INTERFET. 16th Aviation Brigade was there from the beginning and remain involved in helping the people of Timor Leste, almost continually, for 13 years. For many in the Brigade, Dili felt like their second home. 21.01.2022 As an #ArmyInMotion, we understand that effective combined arms operations are founded on relationships and practice. #OURpeople from the Townsville based 5th Aviation Regiment - Australian Army have completed Exercise Brahman Stride in Southeast Queensland last week, conducting familiarisation and interoperability with the Australian Army Aviation Training Centre, 7th Brigade - Australian Army, and 17th Sustainment Brigade - Australi...an Army. Our teams have worked together to practice multi-type combat aviation helicopter missions, air assault, and aeromedical evacuation operations, and logistic movements using helicopters. Thanks to the communities and soldiers in Brisbane, the Gold Coast, and the Darling Downs for hosting us and ensuring that the Australian Army is #readynow.

19.01.2022 40 Years of Dedicated Service Last Friday 04 September 20 saw the final day for this fine officer Captain John Phillips, OAM. With a fitting send off with famil...y, friends and work colleagues. The send off was marked by reflection of Captain Phillips amazing career, many parting gifts speeches and letters of farewell. Captain Phillips joined the Army in 1979 and upon completion of basic training was allocated to Royal Australian Infantry as a Rifleman. Postings have included the 6th and 8/9th Battalions of the Royal Australian Regiment, and the 1st Recruit Training Battalion. He transferred to Australian Army Aviation in 1989 to be an Aircrewman Loadmaster on the Black Hawk helicopter. AAAvn postings have included the 1st, 5th and 6th Aviation Regiments, 161 Reconnaissance Squadron, the School of Army Aviation, Headquarters Army Aviation Training Centre, Headquarters 16th Aviation Brigade, and the Soldier Career Management Agency. Captain Phillips was promoted to Warrant Officer Class One in 2002 and has been appointed Regimental Sergeant Major of both the 5th and 6th Aviation Regiments, the Army Aviation Training Centre, and the 16th Aviation Brigade. In 2013 Captain Phillips accepted an officer commission and his first appointment was the Staff Officer Grade Three for Training and Development at the Army Aviation Training Centre. Captain Phillips has been awarded the Defence Long Service Medal, including the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th clasps for service. John was also presented his Federation Star for 40 years-service. He has been awarded the following medals and honours for service: Australian Active Service Medal with clasp East Timor; the Returned from Active Service Badge; the International Forces East Timor Medal; the Australian Service Medal with clasps for SE Asia, Timor-Leste, Sinai and CT/SR; the Australian Defence Medal; the Meritorious Unit Citation for service by the 5th Aviation Regiment for duty in East Timor and Afghanistan; the Timor-Leste Solidarity Medal; and the Multinational Forces and Observers Medal for the Sinai. Captain Phillips was also awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for service. Captain Phillips has been deployed on Operation MAZURKA in the Sinai, Egypt and Operations ASTUTE, TANAGER and WARDEN in Timor-Leste. He has also deployed to RAAF Base Butterworth in SE Asia. John - Congratulations on an amazing career, thank you for your incredible, unwavering commitment and service to the Australian Army and the people of Australia. You will be missed dearly. Iroquois helicopter UH-1D A02-041 was later reclassified as A02-085 in 1967. #DYK that "Huey" UH-1D was capable of carrying up to 12 soldiers with full battle kits and served in medevac, troop transport and gunship roles in Vietnam. #vigilance...
