24.01.2022 Exciting news for Sub Base Platypus on Neutral Bay with the federal government's Sydney Harbour Federation Trust opening consultation on a proposal to create new parkland by demolishing the Harbour-facing front of the old Torpedo factory. Check out the 'before and after' images of what is being proposed. To have your say and to see more images of what they have in mind visit: https://www.harbourtrust.gov.au//torpedo-factory-renewal-/

24.01.2022 This weekend is an important one for those of the Hindu, Sikh and Jain faiths with the start of Diwali. Its a vibrant celebration of light over dark and good over evil. I spoke about its importance to the Australian-Indian community in Parliament this week. Like everything, the pandemic means thats many of the usual vibrant celebrations will not be happening this year. So no Bollywood dancing ! (I say with a sigh of relief - I did get conned into trying my hand at it last... year). But organisations like the Lane Cove Indian community will be undertaking some activities in our area worth checking out. Shubh Deepawali!

23.01.2022 I had this constant feeling of someone looking over my shoulder during Question Time today ....

23.01.2022 The students at Monte Sant’ Angelo Mercy College in North Sydney have been setting a great example with a commitment to improving recycling at the school. With the support of a grant from the federal government’s Community Environment Program they have put in place a new waste separation system including for organic waste. I checked in on progress today and they are showing great leadership in promoting recycling !

22.01.2022 This week is National Recycling Week As part of the federal government's initiative to raise awareness about recycling, I took part in environment minister Sussan Ley MP's recycling challenge to test how much I knew about what products can be recycled. There is a new labelling system which will help make it easier and you can find out more at Planet Ark: www.recyclingnearyou.com.au/arl ... And another tip: most supermarkets now have bins for you to return soft plastics that can't be placed in your own recycling bin. Here's some quick facts about recycling in Australia: In 2016-17 Australians generated about 69 million tonnes of waste. All governments have committed to reducing waste by 285 kilograms per person by 2030 The federal government is driving $1 billion in investment in Australia’s waste and recycling industries we are working to ban Australian waste being exported to other countries Australia’s recycling rate is currently 60%, so there is much more to be done if we want to reach our target of recycling 80% of all our waste by 2030!

19.01.2022 The outbreak in South Australia is just a reminder of how virulent and fast-moving this awful virus can be. Today I was on Sky News and talked about the outbreak in South Australia and how important it is for states to have a robust contact-tracing system so that Australians can see their loved ones for Christmas. Check it out

13.01.2022 One of my favourite things is judging the primary school Christmas card competition I run - and this year was no exception with a record number of entries. 18 schools participated and the quality of the entries made picking a winner almost impossible! The winning design (to be revealed soon) will appear on my official Christmas card. Thanks to everyone who entered !

10.01.2022 First time at a play in nine months ! For the slightly delayed Hunters Hill Theatre production of the Mousetrap. And pleased to see they didn’t let the programs from the postponed March schedule go to waste !

10.01.2022 A great addition to the network of Men’s Sheds in our area today with the opening of the new Greenway Men’s Shed in Milsons Point. Congratulations to all those involved including the Greenway Tenants Group. They play such an important role in our community. I even had a go at this impressive wood cutter (they made sure it wasn’t plugged in before they let me near it!).

06.01.2022 The federal government is providing more funding to local councils to help with local infrastructure as part of our COVID economic stimulus. I joined Mayor Jilly Gibson to check out one of the projects North Sydney Council will be using the funds for - the replacement of the existing steps and footpath from the McMahons Point ferry wharf to East Crescent Street. It’s one of the busier pedestrian routes in the area and in need of some work to replace the cracking and uneven stairs and pavement.

06.01.2022 One of the hidden historical gems of the lower north shore is the Gore Hill cemetery. It is particularly spectacular at this time of year with a carpet of coreopsis between the grave stones. Well worth checking out!

04.01.2022 Thomson Oval in Artarmon is one of our busiest local sporting grounds and this weekend we opened a wonderful new amenities block for residents, students and sporting clubs. The new facility, which has been jointly funded by the federal government and Willoughby City Council replaces the shabby and rather ancient former building. With new change rooms, toilets, canteen and storage for sport equipment Thomson Oval now has 21st century facilities!

04.01.2022 The Sydney Institute of Marine Science(SIMS) is doing incredible research for our marine environment. Many residents may have come across their living walls which are creating new habitat on Harbour sea walls - but that’s just one of their many projects. I met with SIMS today at their headquarters on Chowder Bay to discuss their work - it’s a great collaboration between our universities and different levels of government.

04.01.2022 Choosing a winner from the 1500 entries for my school Christmas Card was a challenge! But there was a standout and today I presented the first prize to young year 3 student, Polina from North Sydney Dem School. She submitted a beautiful Christmas image - actually painted on canvas ! Congratulations Polina!
