25.01.2022 Yoga with dogs. Friend edition @shereevdm
25.01.2022 People often say to me that yoga is just stretching or flexibility. Flexibility is a side effect of yoga but the true meaning of yoga is Union. Union between the breath and movement, allowing the mind to focus and connect the mind, body and spirit complex. New studies have shown yoga can not only help with physical fitness, posture and range of motion, but also help to ease symptoms of depression and anxiety, even PTSD.... The best way to understand the benefits is to do it and notice how you feel at the end of a class vs how you felt when you started.
24.01.2022 Exultant Warrior. Expands ribs and side body, creating space and releasing pressure from vital organs. Lengthen the spine as you reach high and back, grounding through the feet, moving the energy in both directions. Inhale - lift and lengthen, exhale ground down and soften into your base. ... 2 - 5 breaths.
24.01.2022 I sometimes find it more difficult to do yoga than to do a work out. When you step onto your mat, you have this time and space to hang out with your body, your emotions, your mind without distraction. That’s hard. But it does help to create emotional awareness and regulation which allows for better emotional literacy as we move through life. This is an important skill and one we’re not particularly well versed in, in modern society. Plus, at the end of the day, you’ll always feel better stepping off your mat than you did when you stepped on it movement is medicine.
23.01.2022 Cake may be what I’m known for but I just nailed this pasta dish So easy and delicious: 2 x capsicum 1.5 punnets cherry tomatoes... 1 onion 2 garlic cloves Roast all of these on a tray for 45 min 1/2 cup soaked cashews 1/4 cup water 1 tsp apple cider vinegar 2 tbsp nutritional yeast 1 tbsp olive oil Pinch of salt and pepper 2 stalks basil leaves Throw in blender and add roasted veg. Blend till smooth. Save half pun of cherry toms to the side. 1 cups peas cooked 1 pack organic spaghetti cooked in salt water. Once spaghetti is done, drain water and mix through blended sauce, saved cherry tomatoes, peas and an extra half bunch of basil. Serve. So good! Inspo from @eatvegantips with a couple of modifications add chili if you like it spicy!
23.01.2022 Dinacharya = Life
22.01.2022 I’ve been kinda of slack with filming yoga lately. I felt like I just wanted to movement to be my own, I didn’t need to share it with anyone else. I taught this morning and made it a nice traditional flow class. Nothing fancy, focus on hips, and it felt gooood. Simple movement is often the best. Don’t over complicate things. Just move your body. Go for a walk. Ride your bike. Do a body weight workout. Dance in your lounge room. Movement is medicine. All that matters is that you do it!
22.01.2022 Be like a tree and... GET GROUNDED. Balancing poses strength your legs, ankles and feet as well as improving your awareness and focus. ... Focus on pressing into your feet, engaging the standing thigh, and lifting through the crown of your head - just like tadasana. In tree make sure your food is above or below the knee joint. 5 - 10 breaths.
21.01.2022 What a massive weekend celebrating Sri Krishna Janmashtami! Krishna was the speaker of the Bhagavad-gita and Janmashtami celebrates his appearance day. It went so quickly, I barely got any photos! But here's one of me in a sari. ... This year I learnt how much effort it takes to organise something that huge, that managing people is like herding cats and be direct AF when explaining what you want. The night was beautiful. An amazing team of volunteers cooked and fed over 200 people, and we chanted and danced and chanted some more to the sound of Ashraya. All over for another year, now it's time for focus on some super exciting things I have in the works. First I'm going to sleep for a week - balance, right? Much love! See more
20.01.2022 Yoga and Ayurveda recognises a holistic approach to life - mind, body and spirit. Are you living in alignment with your true nature, nurturing your connection to the Supreme? We spend so much time working on our physical health, we often neglect our spiritual health however nourishing the spirit soul is a fast tracked path to healing. Don’t spend all your time polishing the birdcage and forget to feed the being within.
20.01.2022 How present are you? Are you able to stop your mind and enjoy the moment? Or do you stress about all the things you’ve still got to do? A good question to ask is are you putting the effort in and getting things done when you said you would? When I procrastinate on things I HAVE to do, my down time is filled with guilt. ... When I do the work I’m meant to (even if it’s the last thing I feel like doing) that guilt and anxiety during downtime is almost non existent. Stop saving the work for your future self so it stops being a big fucking problem for your present self See more
19.01.2022 How do you know when you’re playing the victim or when you actually need rest? Victim mentality passes the blame onto others. This is happening because of ... and there’s nothing I can do about it. It allows us it get stuck in our story and use it to prevent action or accountability. It stops us from moving forward. This isn’t the same as resting because you need it. Sometimes there’s trauma that we need to heal from and that takes time, or we need genuine rest from our ...hectic lives. Learning how to move forward and create change requires knowledge, understanding and observation. It’s something I’m teaching in my first program, which is coming soon! It’s been a long time coming and I can’t wait to share it See more
18.01.2022 Discipline is the highest form of self care Small daily activity compounds into massive long term change.
18.01.2022 I have many friends like this
17.01.2022 Happiest when on adventures. But also happiest when I have my own alone time and space. It's all about balance. Here's some things you may not know about me:... 1. I will hike anywhere for a view or for water I can swim in (Darwin Life) 2. I never brush my hair 3. I can play guitar and piano 4. I love animals and I also love people 5. Despite loving people I'm an introverted empath and need time alone or will melt down due to being overwhelmed by emotions 6. I'm a 350hr Hatha Yoga Teacher 7. I'm just about to complete @livetoserveacademy's Ayurvedic Wellness Coaching 8. I've had 42 stitches due to box jump related injuries Tell me something I don't know about you! See more
15.01.2022 Thankful for all the birthday wishes. I’m grateful for the wonderful people I have in my life. I’ve had a lot of mixed reviews about 30. It’s great, life begins at 30, it’s bad, everything is downhill well look, my back does twinge when I pick things up at a funny angle now. However, I think there’s a reason no one talks about how great your late twenties are. Mine were horrendous But damn I learnt some powerful lessons. Moving through 2020, the 29th year in this body... and turning 30 has actually been the most progressive and productive year I’ve ever had. I’ve learnt: Ayurveda is a powerhouse for health and longevity. Yoga is the ultimate life hack. Meditate every day. You probably need therapy. Definitely get a life coach. Your body is great. You don’t need approval for who you are. Association is important. Boundaries are important. Your greatest satisfaction will come from being of service. Exercise is non negotiable. Routine is everything. Your head is filled with shit. Don’t listen to it. Keep growing. Don’t always follow your bliss but trust your intuition. Daily consistent activity over time Don’t jump on wooden boxes. Here’s to 30. I think we’re gonna get along...well better than I did with 28 so that’s something
15.01.2022 Balancing poses are good for strengthening the legs and ankles, focusing the mind, and taking yoga pics in scenic locations.
14.01.2022 Sunset movement after a big day and big emotions. Sometimes it’s hard to get on your mat after something like that. Yoga is all about awareness and it’s tough hanging out with your body sometimes. It’s hard to be present and observe the feelings and acknowledge the tensions# when you feel like you don’t have the emotional capacity for it. I get it. I’m not half as consistent as I should be at the moment but if you’re brave enough to try, to embrace it and to be disciplined, you’ll reap so many benefits yoga is a life hack.
14.01.2022 To everyone working out there in that learning/ creation phase. Keep hustling
14.01.2022 Figured it’s time I started headstands without a while...so far, great success!
14.01.2022 See you all for a Saturday stretch out at Next Level! Had a request for some glute strengtheners, so get ready. Promise you'll get a nice long savasana to finish!
13.01.2022 Warrior 3 always looks so graceful...when other people do it I love this pose because it strengthens your legs, torso and ankles, your stabilisers like the glute medius, and requires a decent amount of balance and focus. Just got to work I’m not being an elephant when I land
13.01.2022 If you want to get somewhere, be consistent. I always disagreed with the turtle vs the hare story. My mind was more like, if the stupid rabbit just kept going he would have won. Pushing myself past exhaustion and doing as much as I could in one hit was the story of my life. Must be my Pitta side Ironically enough, this meant I was also a severe procrastinator because anytime I did a task, it was thoroughly unenjoyable with this all or nothing approach - assignments, diets..., exercise, jobs, etc. OR I lived in an extreme state of exhaustion. It took me many years to understand that a slow approach was the one that achieved sustainable, long lasting results. Whatever your goal is, take one daily step at a time. You actually can enjoy the journey. Learn to walk before you run.
13.01.2022 Consistency is key @howyogaworks

10.01.2022 Health and fitness has been part of my life for the last ten years. The problem is I didn’t know what the health part meant. Not really. I was never happy with my body no matter how low (or high) my body fat percentage was. I had an incredibly unhealthy relationship with food, from restricting and obsessing about everything I put in my mouth to blowing my diet and binge eating until I was sick. It was a vicious cycle that seemed impossible to break. What I didn’t realise is... that it was so much more than eating. My unharmonious approach to food was a distraction from other underlying issues I wasn’t facing. I needed to a holistic approach to mend not just my eating habits, but my entire life. By applying the principles of Ayurveda, I was able to heal from a ten year eating disorder and severe burn out. I started listening my body and what it needed. I learnt emotional intelligence and how to create balance and harmony in all aspects of my life. I was always put on this earth to help others. I’ve just completed Live to Serve Academy’s Ayurvedic Wellness Coaching Certification, so now I get to! I’m launching my first ever 8 week program so I can help others become the best versions of themselves. If you want to learn how to understand your body and emotions, rectify self sabotaging behaviours and create a harmonious life that allows you to keep moving forward no matter what life throws at you, this course is for you. Join me for 8 weeks of Understanding Ayurveda. Get in contact ASAP as I’ve only a few spots left!
10.01.2022 Yoga Saturday 9am at Next Level Gym. Probably won’t be this scenic but excellent all the same
08.01.2022 Connect with your breath. The goal of yoga isn’t flexibility. It’s union. Between you, the atma or individual soul, and the Supreme Soul. It’s through this union that you develop realisation about who you really are. Connecting breath and movement helps to purify and calm the mind so you have a greater chance to tap into inner guidance that resides in your heart. Flexibility is just a bonus
05.01.2022 Have you tried mantra meditation? I finish my classes with a few minutes of blissful kirtan meditation to leave you feeling centred, grounded and relaxed. Kirtan is transcendental sound vibration which allows you to rest your mind and heart, and nourish your soul which is so often neglected in our busy lives. Come to BodyFit Yarrawonga at 5:30pm Tuesday’s for Hatha Yoga followed by meditation
04.01.2022 When did you last take the time to reset? Our busy lives are stressful which can lead to feelings of anxiety and overwhelm. It also means you're sympathetic nervous system (flight or fight mode) is constantly activated! This has long term health complications and is linked to chronic illness. To repair, the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest mode) needs a chance to kick in and works its magic. ... Sounds great but how do we do that? We can't all take a Savasana in the middle of the day, so the simplest and most accessible tool you have is your breath. Learning how to utilise your breath is a game changer when it comes to managing stress and overwhelming emotions. Pranayama has many effective techniques to learn, but the best way to start is: Deep breath in. Deep breath out. Repeat. See more
03.01.2022 What a weekend! Good friends and good chants I’m a total introvert/ empath. I love people, but it’s really hard to be around them all the time. I need time alone to recharge...unless, I’m with people that speak my language - meditation, deep chats and love all round
03.01.2022 After hours of driving, walking and swimming, a little yoga break was so needed. Give your yourself the chance to process, create some space, observe. People often think yoga is stretching and flexibility. It’s so much more than that. The mind body connection, awareness of breath, linking it to movement, clearing subtle energy channels and releasing emotions. It’ll change your fucking life. Give it a go
02.01.2022 The battles! You know the ones. When people cop it because you don’t know how to express the emotions you’re feeling though it has nothing to do with them. How many days did I ruin by projecting my discomfort onto others? Being responsible for your emotions is a powerful step in controlling your reaction and changing your habits. It takes practice and a fair bit of bravery to confront those things, because they usually come from a complex place. Learning emotional intelli...gence is a game changer, for you and your relationships. Do you have sabotaging behaviours in your life you’d like to change? Send me a message! See more
02.01.2022 As women were expected to be vulnerable, soft, kind. We’re also expected to be strong, independent, unbreakable. It’s hard to balance all of it and remain open to the world. When you think of poor posture, what comes to mind? Low self esteem, insecurity, pain. There are certain marma points in your body recognised by eastern medicine. The ones linked to self esteem are located in the pectoral minor muscles at the front of your body, which are the same muscles that shorten ...and pull our shoulders forward when we have poor posture. This is part of my favourite heart opening flow right now. Finding your stability in core, your strength with your legs and the openness in your heart, helping you balance all the hats were told to wear in society. Don’t close yourself off. There’s a lot of good worth staying open for
01.01.2022 Spent the weekend chanting, swimming, eating and yogaing in the bush with friends. I don’t believe there’s better things I could spend my time on Come along to yoga tonight at 5:30pm BodyFit Yarrawonga and join us in blissful kirtan at the end of class.
01.01.2022 First flow of 2021. My favourite little hip opening warm up. I spent the holidays in a little tamas cocoon - sleeping, eating and resting. So man it feels good to move 2020 was training season. ... 2021 is game time. Stay posted See more
01.01.2022 It's easier said than done, right? What does massive, determined action even look like? Do you know enough about where you're going to know what action you need to take? First step is get clear on what you want. When life has thrown a few curve balls and kicked you in the teeth (thanks 2020), it's easy to lose direction and once it's lost, it can take some time to find again. ... Or if you know what you want, how do you chase it while you balance the rest of your crazy life? You need the right tools in your arsenal that allow you to create space and give you support in your life so you can keep conquering (or getting through) your day. The right tools? Ayurveda. See more
