17.01.2022 REMEMBRANCE DAY 2020 Today, Wednesday 11 November 2020 marks the 102nd anniversary of the Armistice which ended the First World War. One hundred and two years ago, on 11 November 1918, the guns of the Western Front fell silent after four years of continuous warfare.... In the four years of the war (1914-18) more than 330,000 Australians had served overseas and more than 60,000 of them had died. Each year on this day, Australians observe one minute's silence at 11.00am in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts. (Australian War Memorial)

05.01.2022 NEW FERNERY ANOTHER STEP CLOSER As previously advised, construction of a new fernery building at the Botanic Gardens has commenced. The fernery, is to be named in honour of Gardens pioneer, Kevin Stokes, who is the initiator of this fantastic project. The new fernery building will be fully funded by our great friends and supporters, PORT WARATAH COAL SERVICES and will enable the Gardens to display Australasian ferns with an emphasis on the local species of the Hunter Region.... The photograph below shows our Engineering and Building Maintenance Team (from left) Geoff Taylor, Grahame Clarke and Bob Francis, studying the plans on Monday.
