25.01.2022 We would like to ask visitors to take care in our cemetery. We have noticed lately inappropriate footwear for a start. There are many sharp objects that can slice exposed feet and spikey branches.Nothing can be done as they are the result of "Heritage listed trees" . In daytime our experienced guides will warn you what to look out for. They also will warn you of unstable monuments and walls, rabbit holes and deep gutters, exposed tree roots and other dangers. We have worked w...ith Ghost Tours making sure their people are up to date with any hazards plus alerting them of anything else to be concerned about. There appears to be a couple of other individuals taking daytime tours that Council staff have not been made aware of and it also has been noted that their activities have been rather casual. Sitting on unstable walls, leaning on headstones that are not securely attached at the base and even being near some leaning monuments that could go at any time. See more

23.01.2022 another great walk today by Meryll. Thank you. And thank you to all our participants. Great to have a good crowd and you learn something new everytime. Researching the walks is a fantastic trip and something new always crops up. We love sharing the history with others.

23.01.2022 Here is another soldier who did his service and came back sick from his wounds. BEECH FRANCIS HAROLD HUTTON (HAROLD) P9.S5.G22 30 1620A 3/07/1919 52ND BATT AUST. grave destroyed because of grass growing and family in Murgon.

22.01.2022 Hi all. I began a project in October last year to identify every service man and woman and nurse who served in any conflict or in any of our defence forces and ...who is either buried in Toowong Cemetery or who is memorialised on a family headstone or plaque in the cemetery. Starting with basic CWGs of 384 I have now found over 2100 men and women and know there are still many more. 13 Crimean War, 6 American Civil War, 81 Cossacks, a large number of Boer War Vets and of course WWI and WWII and Korea and later. Even the Boxer Rebellion and the fall of Lucknow. Many are in family graves with no mention of their sacrifice until research gives me an answer. If you know someone, the Honour Board for which I have been given the go ahead will have in order the surname, rank Christian name awards, grave location, age, SERN, date of death, unit and origin of birth. A sample is: MACARTNEY, LIEUT. COL: HENRY DUNDAS KEITH C.M.G. D.S.O. 5 MiD, P5.S62.G16, 52, OFFICER, 24/10/1932, 1SQD. A.F.C. & 2ND DIV. ART., AUST. or LYON, CORPORAL: JOHN WYNDON ZULU WAR MEDAL (RORKE'S DRIFT), P10.S65.G30, 81, NA, 21/04/1934, 2ND BATT NATAL HORSE & 24TH FOOT (ROYAL WARWICKSHIRE REGT.), ENGLAND. I do not want a single man or woman to be left out so I am asking please if there was anyone in your family that served in any manner at any time including the early days of our Colony I would appreciate any details you have so that the person can get their due honour and never be forgotten. Even if I have them on my list I can then check for accuracy. Share with anyone you think may be interested please. You may message me or send an email to inquiries @ fotc.org.au. which would be even better. Thank you. See more

20.01.2022 In honour of forgotten soldiers in Toowong. NELSON : ALFRED WILLIAM 14/15 STAR P14.S4.G9 24 2804A KIA 23/07/1916 9TH BATT FRANCE born Aust. He was memorialised on the headstone below but it was demolished by orders of the then 1974 Mayor of Brisbane and the Health Department.

16.01.2022 to all our friends and visitors the database for the proposed Honour Board has now reached 4370 as of today 3/9/2020 and still more to be found in Toowong Cemet...ery but the difficult part has now begun. So many of the women have served under their maiden names but are buried under their married names. From nurses in the Boer War and later plus many women in both Army Navy and Airforce in WWII and later. I am asking visitors to the site who know of any who have passed away and been interred in Toowong either as burials or ashes internment to let me know so they can join in being honoured for their service to the nation. Nationalities are not restricted as long as there is a Toowong Cemetery connection. Emails can be sent to [email protected]. See more

11.01.2022 A kindly request to those placing poppies at war graves. If they are not colour fast could you please place them at the base rather than on the headstones. It c...an take two years or more for the dye to gradually fade away. In some case it is still there as a blemish. see attached photos and share please. See more
