25.01.2022 In December 1885, the Commissioner for Public Works for the Colony of Victoria,, Alfred Deakin, called for Tenders to build the Traralgon Public Works Buildings incorporating the Courthouse, Post Office and the Treasury buildings. https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/71547283?s In 1901 Victoria became a State in the Federation of Australia and Alfred Deakin was elected to the Federal Parliament, where he later became its 2nd, 5th & 7th Prime Minister. ... Our Courthouse has a great history, this is just its beginning. Photo https://www.bing.com/images/search

20.01.2022 Our Boot Sale is up and running! Come on down.

16.01.2022 We look forward, we don’t know what it will bring, but we will continue in our efforts to save, restore, enhance and appreciate our Court House. Happy New Year to all!

16.01.2022 What has Alfred Deakin got to do with Traralgon's Court House? While we can't share the Courthouse with you at the moment we can share some of its history. So here is a question to ponder. ... What did Australia's 2nd Prime Minister have to do with the Traralgon Courthouse?

16.01.2022 Come and join.

15.01.2022 Don't forget to book your stall by emailing [email protected]

14.01.2022 Zoom meetings might be fine for shareholder AGMs. We prefer to open the Courthouse and meet in person, so we are postponing our AGM until early December. We are hoping that by then the hallway and Juryroom will be painted and you can see what your support has led to. Our big project for 2021-2022 will be the Courtroom itself. To all our Members past and present thank you your support over the past three years.... We look forward to 2021 being a better year, one where you can come in and enjoy our great old building. See more

13.01.2022 The Court yard was open for business today. Thanks to all our store holders and patrons for supporting our fundraiser this morning. We’ll be back again in March, so start sorting the clutter from the keepers and book your stall for March 14 now

13.01.2022 Peeling back the layers of time. The boards at the old Traralgon Courthouse have passed the test of time and with the assistance of Michael of Floorworx pictured herein they have sprung back to life for a new generation. Some Good News Media from the Friends of the Courthouse.

13.01.2022 Congratulations to Sheridan Bond on becoming our new President tonight. Sheridan is a great community contributor committed to seeing the progress at the Courthouse continue. She is pictured here at another great Traralgon community project, the Traralgon Railway Reservoir Reserve. Sheridan is looking forward to working closely with community, local business and council as we embark on our 20-23 strategic plan. We also welcomed our new Treasurer Dianne van der Merwe and thank our existing committee members for putting their hands up again in 2021. Like everyone we look forward to the new year ahead of us.

12.01.2022 We sincerely appreciate the input of our Council representatives. In particular Andrea Stanlake who has been with us most of the journey thus far. We can’t wait for normality to return so we can open the doors again!

12.01.2022 On 15 January 1886, the Geelong Advertiser reported on the tenders that had been accepted by the Board of Land and Works. Amongst those listed was this one "public works offices Traralgon, N.W.Fragley . https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/150450568 Mr Fragley had won the tender to build the public works office for the sum of five thousand, one hundred and fifty two pounds.... The picture of the plans he would have worked from comes from the the 2009 Courthouse (and Post Office) Traralgon Conservation Management Plan commissioned by Latrobe City Council. It is originally sourced from the Australian Archives. FOTCH will be approaching Council to seek amendments to the 2009 CMP. A revised CMP will enable greater progression on our plans for the Courthouse and its grounds. The source of the photo of the finished building is unknown, it is probably from the TDHS's collection. Over the coming weeks you will hear more about the history of our Courthouse and the role of local craftsman and in its construction.. Our intention is to create a small booklet on the history of its construction and we will keep you posted on our progress with that.

11.01.2022 Tonight we say thank you to our retiring President and committee member David Hackford. David has been with us from the earliest days. Whether it was pulling up carpet, meeting with Heritage Vic or checking through our lease David has given tirelessly. He has been a driving force in our ANZAC Day activities and a generous contributor on many other occasions and while no longer serving on the Committee he will continue to support us in our efforts to restore and activate this wonderful community asset. THANK YOU David

08.01.2022 It’s been cold and we’ve been quiet. That doesn’t mean though that nothing is happening behind the closed doors. In fact there has been a lot going on. Our kitchenette is well on its way in the Jury room. Designed to be fit for purpose, it is a clean practical space for small scale catering.... We are using this time to develop a plan for adaptive use of this historic treasure. We would like to hear from you. What do you want to see happening in the Courthouse?

06.01.2022 Book your stall for March 14 now

06.01.2022 It’s the first day of Autumn. We’d love to see your favourite Autumn photo, post it on our page or bring it in on Wednesday when we open up the doors again for Walk in Wednesday. Mary will be delighted to see you and the urn will be on. The doors will e open from 10.30am -2pm .

05.01.2022 Merry Christmas to all our Members and the Community. May 2021 bring some joy to all.

05.01.2022 Another step of the many on the road to restoration of our Courthouse. Beneath the carpet and underlay lifted this morning are floorboards in excellent condition and the unseen layers of project management that live behind the scenes of most community projects. Our thanks to; David and Dan for this mornings work to our members who keep the faith ... and support our fundraising to the other Dan who guides us through the complexities of Heritage Victoria’s do’s and don’t to the team of Council Officers that work closely and supportively with us and to those who show up when we need them There’s lots happening behind the scenes so stay posted

04.01.2022 Spring will come again and when it does we will celebrate it with you. We will fill the Courthouse with music and flowers and embrace the strength of our community. For now we will no longer be open for Walk in Wednesday, the play we planning in partnership withe Sale Theatre Company has been postponed and our annual ANZAC Day activity has been cancelled. Like everyone else we have a very real responsibility to do our bit to limit the spread of COVID-19. Let’s all follow the guidelines and look out for our family, friends and neighbours. We urge you to support local businesses where you can and order take away from our restaurant whenever you can manage it. Stay safe, stay well, stay connected.

03.01.2022 Our AGM will be held @ 5.30pm on Thursday December 3 Members should RSVP

02.01.2022 Our Next History Instalment comes from the Traralgon Record Friday 30 April, 1886. It seems the Editor of the local paper was unhappy that Governor Loch (of whom the Estate Loch Park was named after) had failed to keep his promise to lay a memorial stone for the new Public Offices and no one was doing anything about it especially the Shire!! https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/70793361

01.01.2022 Wow! What a difference a year makes. The beauty of our Courthouse..Anzac Day, the Christmas Parade, celebrations of 2019, the possibilities were endless. Enter 2020...stymied for a bit, but the possibilities still remain.
