23.01.2022 Last week our teams from Mt Rothwell and Orana undertook a very successful eco burn at our new sanctuary along the Lodden River. This burn will significantly p...romote native grassland regeneration and enhance the biodiversity values of the site. Thanks to all those who assisted on the day. Drone footage credit: Matt Davis. 22.01.2022 In partnership with Agriculture Victoria we are hosting a pest control workshop next Friday the 30th for youth aged between 18-35 years old. Our focus is rabbit control in a complex environment. Please contact us for more information at [email protected]. Due to COVID we can only have a maximum of 10 people attend and all must be from regional Victoria.
22.01.2022 Happy to support these guys in setting up their sanctuary. Look forward to seeing your endangered wildlife populations boom.
21.01.2022 Such an exciting project!
18.01.2022 Two weeks ago, we broke some happy Friday news that George & Freckle had welcomed new twins into the world - a fantastic moment in this continuing good news sto...ry. Well, Happy Friday again: we’ve got a cute new photo of one of the chicks in a close-up! Our project partners, Mt Rothwell - Biodiversity Interpretation Centre, are helped by a dedicated team of volunteers who - as with so many conservation projects - make this critical work possible. They help with day to day husbandry, including feeding the curlews and doing check ups. And here’s an exciting announcement: they’ll be choosing the names of these important newborns! Once named, we’ll let you all know. Bush stone-curlews are doing okay in some parts of Australia, but in Victoria they have had dramatic declines in local populations. That’s why we’re working on this captive breeding program, and why its continued success is so important. As always, we encourage you to head to www.FAME.org.au to learn more about the incredible work happening around Australia, that you make possible. We might be in the midst of an extinction crisis - but the fight’s not over yet! Help us spread the word by sharing this post!
13.01.2022 Can you spot Sandi and Andy’s chick? We captured this cute moment by installing motion sensor cameras into the curlew pens to monitor the health and behaviour of the breeding pair and their new offspring. A special thanks as always to our partners at Foundation for Australia's Most Endangered Species Ltd for making this program possible. We recently acquired more breeding pairs from the team at Nature Conservation Working Group and will be expecting more eggs when the birds settle in.
05.01.2022 Love your support Lara District Community Bank Branch! This equipment has been so valuable to our work.
04.01.2022 Always love seeing our little critters thriving in new sanctuaries Well done to Conmurra for setting up this great site supporting our special little creatures
03.01.2022 A late post but fresh off the press...TIVERTON IS FINALLY INTRODUCED PREDATOR FREE!!! The significance of this: We have spent over 4 years, hundreds of thousands of dollars, countless hours in fencing, baiting, trapping, surveying, tracking, hunting, monitoring, DNA profiling and spotlighting to reclaim 1000 hectares of pristine basalt grasslands. All to provide a safe haven for our native endangered creatures. We dodged snakes in the middle of summer, rolled ankles across... the basalt landscape, battled through the elements and wandered deliriously on a hot trial when we thought we were onto something. The outcome: We now have the ability to introduce critically endangered Eastern Barred Bandicoots! This site will effectively triple the current population when at capacity. We will reintroduce Eastern Quolls after being absent for over 50 years. This site will be the largest fox and cat free site in Australia supporting Eastern Quolls! Huge thank-you to all our partners and supporters, the volunteers who assisted and our amazing team. This project is supported by Glenelg Hopkins CMA, through funding from the Australian Government’s national Landcare Program. We would like to also thank the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning, Zoos Victoria, Odonata, The University of Melbourne, Cesar, Phillip Island Nature Parks, Corrections Victoria, Mt Rothwell Landcare Volunteers, ProCon Pest & Wildlife Management and the Commonwealth. How you can help: Volunteer; enquire via [email protected] if you can volunteer on a regular basis in the Dundonnell region. Donate; via www.mtrothwell.com.au or www.odonata.org.au both will support the introduction process using Mt Rothwell animals. Spread the word; share and like this post and tell all your mates. Visit; visit Mt Rothwell and see the animals that will supply Tiverton (booking essential via [email protected].
