02.01.2022 We're proud to be a part of the North Metro Aboriginal COVID Response Network, which has been formed to bring together community leaders, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs), representatives of traditional owners, state and local government, and community health organisations to provide advice to the central government task force and provide coordinated support for Aboriginal communities across the Northern metropolitan area during the COVID-19 pandemic. CO...VID-19 has been difficult for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities amongst the many challenges identified are isolation from family and country, health and wellbeing of elders, accessing accurate culturally safe information, added pressure on the Aboriginal workers, continued management and treatment of chronic conditions, and the mental health of young people. This network is working to help communities re-build and re-connect with important and diverse supports and services. One of the great services available for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples is the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service (VAHS) Yarning SafeNStrong helpline, which has culturally suitable counsellors available 24/7 to provide wellbeing support. 02.01.2022 On this day, at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, World War One ended after four long years. We are honoured to remember those whose showed courage and sacrifice to serve their country and have laid a wreath at the Eltham Cenotaph in memorial. May we also acknowledge our responsibility to work for the peace they fought so hard to achieve. We will remember them.
