22.01.2022 August is FAMILY HISTORY MONTH! Trying to keep things in your head that your Dad or Mum or other relative told you? If you don't have paper and pen on you at the time - turn on the recording app on your phone (permission, of course) or jot a few notes as soon as you can on your OneNote or email and send to yourself. Access to a family phone/address book or birthday book: always an excellent source of information. Ask your parents or other relative when you are visiting to have a look - ask about the people in the book - who are they, how long have you known them (friends). Never miss an opportunity to gather information because once your parents or close relatives are gone - history gathering is fragmented and distorted.
22.01.2022 I have not posted for sometime - so many other things with family and my other job have taken the lead. I have recently had a very interesting research project which took determination and persistence to achieve a great result. So, my message to you all is keep on with your research - you may need to enlist the assistance of others if it becomes too difficult. Consider contacting local history groups and local libraries. Use newspaper archives. I am going to the Parramatta Female Factory event on 26th of October "It's A Riot" - I am a descendant of Mary Fleming who spent some time at the Factory. 21.01.2022 When considering naming a child please consider the genealogist. I say this in jest. However having a middle name can make all the difference to the discovery of a relative or ancestor. The immediate sense of anguish felt by the genealogist when presented with the common names of Brown, Smith or Jones is intensified when only a first name of Thomas, John or James is known. It is quite lovely to find a middle name associated with one of the parents but any middle will do. Not to 'single' the child out but to have a good spot on that family tree sooner rather than be left waiting to be found by a genealogist. Of course you can be proactive and start your own family tree when starting your family. Your family will not need to engage a genealogist accept perhaps for the great ancestor without the middle name.

16.01.2022 Locating Facebook groups related to your ancestry can be beneficial to you and others in the groups. Sharing memories and photos is a great community involvement. Family History questions can be answered and may uncover some 'jewels' for your quest.
15.01.2022 Holiday time is upon us and you just know what I am going to say! Yes, tell stories, recall events, share memories. I am currently focusing on the street that my father grew up in and that I lived in on a couple of occasions. The street no longer exists due to development. So between Dad's memories and other relatives maps I have then gone to electoral rolls to build a picture of the people in my father's childhood and early adult.... What is your project going to be? Remember to use the voice recorder on your mobile to capture interviews and general discussion with family members (with permission). Merry Christmas to all
14.01.2022 Make the most those "checking on you" phone calls you are making to family members during these isolating times Jot down family history questions to ask each day. Both of you will be rewarded with social engagement, perhaps a laugh, and a great result for your family history project.
11.01.2022 NSW Births, Deaths and Marriages Index - entries online may not be as accurate as the old microfiche. Your local family history group or historical society will probably still have microfiche to assist your quest.
