22.01.2022 MY 521 TRIBUTE Poems For fifty-five years I have studied the fallen. Wrote of their ambitions and previous calling. Stared at the face of each unfortunate man,... To present their story as best as I can. Some glare at the camera with no wish to be there. Others smile broadly, but this is quite rare. The faces of the larrikins stand out on the page. It is obvious they’d rather be otherwise engaged. And so, with this photo they’ll be known for posterity Along with a poem, factual in its brevity, Which has been completed with all the truth I can glean, About their short lives and the years in-between. It saddens me deeply to see such promise and flair In the faces of soldiers no longer here. Professionals and great sportsmen with so much to give, Who sacrificed all, so that others could live. The photographs of many, to me are well-known Having sat beside me for years in our home. An obvious charm attracting the eye As I ask the question - ‘why did he have to die?’ So many of these diggers were my personal friends. Loyal and true mates till their journey’s end. My heart goes out to each soldier concerned. For I can only repay them with these words in return. Bill Charlton c 2020

21.01.2022 Hey gang tomorrow when we remember those who have paid the unltimate sacrifice in the defence of our nation. Can please spare the time to include those who have fallen on home soil. Those that ended their pain in their own way. For they too served and belong among our honoured fallen.

18.01.2022 Hi, I am looking for information about a friends dad. James Herbert Ridley - Known as "Snowy". He was in Malaysia in 1967 where his wife Kathleen died. He himse...lf died here in Brisbane in 1987. No. 213734. I have conflicting info about which units he was in 1 RAR and 2 RAR so I am grasping at straws a bit. I was wondering why wives were permitted on overseas postings during that time. His wife was buried in Terendak military cemetery and later was repatriated here in 2016, and is now buried next to him. If anyone has any idea about the story about why they were there, or know him of the wife I would love to hear from you to pass info to their only son. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. 14.01.2022 OPEN ARMS GREETED IN MOUNT PLEASANT WESTERN AUSTRALIA Veterans and their families in Perth now have easier access to Open Arms Veterans & Families Counselling (Open Arms) with the Applecross office relocating to a more centrally located Mount Pleasant address 37 Reynolds Road. Minister for Veterans’ Affairs Darren Chester said the new office offered additional space for a growing workforce, which meant more services and support for veterans and their families in Perth and... the surrounding region. Open Arms is the frontline mental health service and the increased space provided in the new office improves our ability to support more members of the veteran community, Mr Chester said. The increased office space will assist with meeting the mental health and wellbeing needs of serving, ex-serving personnel and their families, and providing great capacity to our Open Arms Peer Advisors. The Open Arms Peer Workers help veterans and family members struggling with their mental health, bringing a lived experience of mental health and, importantly, of recovery. The Community and Peer Program is being rolled out nationally to support veterans and their families. In addition to the increased office space, clients will be welcomed into a more contemporary environment that offers greater comfort and amenities. If you are serving, ex-serving or a family member who may be struggling or in need of additional support, I encourage you to call Open Arms 24/7 on 1800 011 046 or visit OpenArms.gov.au to find more about services available. Open Arms was founded by our Vietnam veterans and part of their enduring legacy is ensuring all Australian veterans and their families can access free and confidential mental health support. The Mount Pleasant Open Arms office is one of two in Western Australia. For further information on Open Arms locations around the country, visit OpenArms.gov.au.

11.01.2022 NEW OPEN ARMS OFFICE IN MELBOURNE Veterans and their families in Melbourne will have easier access to Open Arms Veterans & Families Counselling (Open Arms) with the office relocating to 303 Collins Street. Minister for Veterans’ Affairs Darren Chester said despite the current coronavirus restrictions in Melbourne, work had continued on outfitting the new office space so veterans and their families would have improved access to support when face-to-face counselling resumes.... Open Arms’ Melbourne office has seen a 25 per cent increase in clients in the last 12 months, and this increase is expected to continue throughout the pandemic, Mr Chester said. With this in mind, the new location at 303 Collins Street, Melbourne is conveniently close to Flinders Street Station, tram and bus routes and offers veterans and their families a modern, well equipped and family friendly site with additional counselling rooms and large open office spaces to ensure they are well-looked after. It is incredibly important that this relocation to improved office space is completed so our Victorian veterans and their families can access the right facilities and services when they need to. Open Arms is Australia’s leading provider of high quality mental health assessment and clinical counselling services for Australian veterans and their families. If you are a veteran or family member who may be struggling or in need of additional support, I encourage you to call Open Arms 24/7 on 1800 011 046 or visit OpenArms.gov.au to find more about services available. Open Arms was founded by our Vietnam veterans and is their enduring legacy of ensuring all veterans and their families can access free and confidential mental health support. The Melbourne Open Arms office is one of five in Victoria. For further information on Open Arms locations, visit OpenArms.gov.au.

04.01.2022 Brisbane Anzac Day Parade 2021 The ANZAC day parade in 2021 will be held at the RNA showgrounds. Banners only, no veterans can march behind banners in the 2021 Parade to limit participation outside of serving ADF personnel.... A COVIDSafe plan has been put forward that would allow two banner carriers plus two members to attend as spectators in addition to the Banner carriers. If you would like to be one of the two to carry the 1RAR Banner or be a spectator please let me know as soon as possible (by the 30th November). For planning purposes the venue for the 2021 Parade is unlikely to change, we can only hope it does!! Andrew Skinner [email protected] 0407467006
