Well done all and thankyou for the gift I will enjoy it Sparky

19.01.2022 Our scout section has been waiting for this camp for 5 months after it was cancelled at the end of March due to Covid. We had to do things a little different to our usual camps but everyone had a great time. We learned some new radio skills, pioneering and some navigation.

19.01.2022 Dont forget our book fundraiser is still in full swing. All tidy and some fresh new books to exchange or hire.

19.01.2022 1st Salisbury attended Hopahowl and we had a ball. We sang, we hiked, we swapped badges, we tried new activities, we ate well, we laughed, we smiled and made new friends. For the first time we were able to fill a whole unit with 34 attending youth. With 94 joeys and cubs at the group it was so exciting to fill our first full unit. Well done to all involved and the hard work done. What an awesome experience the youth had. Really enjoyed the patrol system. Awesome weekend #hopahowl

17.01.2022 Fantastic night doing our 3 yearly brainstorming session. Leaders, committee, parents and youth involved. Great night creating a 3 year plan for the group as a group. Some exciting ideas and a lot you just never would have thought of. Check out our video. Good planning is the foundation to success.

15.01.2022 We are looking for 500 likes for the page before Christmas. Please invite friends and family to see our awesome expeditions and adventures.

15.01.2022 Final group event for the year, Christmas Party. With Salisbury Pool exclusive to the group for 4 hours to have a snag and swim. A bit cold, but they all still jumped in for a dip and made the most of the day as scouts always do. Great to see the families out there and have a nice chat and meet some of our new member families. Awesome day and awesome fun.

15.01.2022 So what happens when you put cubs and scouts in charge of their own fundraising. Jamboree 2022 we have 28 youth currently interested and the jambofund committee are in full swing. 13.01.2022 https://1stsalisburyscoutgroup.teamapp.com/store in 2020 group messaging and news etc will be via team app. Section info will still be communicated via care monkey and facebook as normal and that does not change, we are adding team app as a one stop communication shop. you can find section term calendars, latest news and upcoming events.

12.01.2022 A going up ceremony is a hugely special event at our group and each term we hold a group night to celebrate this. Each term we do a unique way to take a youth from one section to another. This term it was in a cart at the old house with Harry assisting us, last term canoeing across a small lake, 2nd term flying on a flying fox. As you see these moments in a scouts journey are so special. Thank you Harry for handing out some badges and enjoying our going up ceremony.

12.01.2022 To all members and families of the 1st Salisbury Family, As this effects all of us I have copied and pasted to allow all to see what has been sent to leaders. Please understand the show will go on as we have n awesome team of leaders who will deliver and outstanding program anywhere anytime. Please keep an eye on your section pages for specific announcements to your section and how to link into the zoom meetings for each section. Marty Mckee Assistant Group Leader... Dear Marty, This communication has been distributed to all Adult Members in Scouting. This afternoon, 16 November, the State Government issued directions and guidance around the latest COVID-19 outbreak centred around Lyell McEwin Emergency and Parafield Plaza Supermarket. Scouts SA has considered the announcements made this afternoon with restrictions coming into place for sport, activities, recreation, gyms and other businesses. Scouts SA Action Scouts SA advises that in line with COVID Directions and to play our part as responsible South Australian citizens, that all face to face Scouting activities are required to cease as of 11.59pm tonight, Monday 16th November. Activities planned for tonight (Monday 16 November) may still continue. This impacts all youth activities, meetings and functions. Current indications from SA Government are that if all South Australians act now that these restrictions will hopefully only last 2 weeks. Scouting COVID Safe The Scouts SA team are currently in the process of developing online program opportunities to allow the continuation of Scouting in a virtual world. Stay tuned for more information soon. Communication will be sent to all families from Scouts SA on Tuesday 17 November outlining this update and any other key information. It is vitally important that we do not declare this the end of the Scouting year. We hope that by all of us working together, that there will be an opportunity to meet again face to face to end the Scouting year, so we encourage all Groups to keep in contact, connect where you can and do what you can to communicate with and engage with your Youth Members, families and Adult Leaders/Helpers Upcoming Branch Events Updates about the Joey 30 Year Picnic, the Queen’s Scout Dinner and Supersplash will be out in the next 24 hours. Please be patient and wait for information to be communicated by the organisers of these activities. The Branch Team will provide updates as the situation changes. Please direct enquiries to [email protected] Thank you once again for all you are doing for Scouting. Jan Turbill Chief Commissioner

12.01.2022 In 2017 a meeting with committee and leaders came up with a list of possibilities for the group and the potential it could achieve. There was no restriction on what you could write as it was about the simple question, What If?. We really didnt know how much of the list we could achieve, the pink highlighted parts are completed and done jobs. Not all on list where achievable but we got a lot done. Jan 2020 will see the next meeting for the next three year plan. Will be amazing to see what we achieve next.

11.01.2022 Huge thank you to all who helped at the working bee. You were awesome and achieved so much. So much achieved and we were able to finish an hour early due to your hard work. Awesome such a good job.

10.01.2022 Hi, my son joined 1st Alawa Scout Group in Darwin this year, which made me feel nostalgic and dig up old photos of my time (early 1980's) at 1st Salisbury in cubs and my investiture into scouts. I hope you enjoy them and spot some old scouts in the midst.

09.01.2022 Huge Thankyou to Salisbury council. These items will enhance our youth program and is so exciting. STEM program will be enhanced with those microscopes, new sign in trolleys, cash draw for fundraisers, printer desk will be awesome. So appreciated and will be put to great use.

07.01.2022 To all the 1st Salisbury Families, We wish you all a merry christmas and a happy new year. 2020 has been a year to reflect on what is important in life and to understand our health is worth isolating for. Very proud of leaders and youth who took on the get on zoom challenge 2020 and made it a huge success and the adults who held meetings and organised so much via zoom. 2020 is a year not to think it all went wrong, but a year where we were able to see what we can do right in ...the future, from hygiene practices we can use at camps, being mindful of the situation, thinking of others and connecting with them via online, appreciating what we have and have had to reset new goals to be more resilient in the future and most of all appreciated those who helped when required to prep halls and camps to be COVID safe and do the work no one will ever see. To the community we live in, our scouting family is growing and in 2021 will see a new direction with the use of an online scouting program via terrain and a new direction within the group with new leadership and new support within the group. it is looking very exciting for 2021 and will see 1st Salisbury take another step in it's journey. To all leaders, committee, adult helpers, youth helpers and the youth, you all make 1st Salisbury a special place and together we have grown into one of the biggest groups in the state. Our key qualities of helpfulness, support, sharing, community and most of all friendship is what has guided us to where we are and will continue to guide us. I ask you all on the 21st to look up at the skies and see the christmas star where jupiter and saturn are align and say thankyou to being part of an awesome team and think of the fun times had over the last 5 years at 1st Salisbury. YIS Sparky

06.01.2022 1st Salisbury Scout Group spent Sunday cooking a sausage sizzle for the @cityofsalisbury secret garden to raise money for our youth to get to the 2022 Jamboree. Well done to all parents and youth, it was a great day.

06.01.2022 2020 1st Salisbury will embrace scouting in a new way. So exciting and cant wait to learn with the youth. Scouting youth lead is how it should be and most of all allowing the youth to choose not only their scouting journey, but also their own adventure. Bring it on it is so exciting.

06.01.2022 Huge congratulations to the scout section who applauded the achievement of three scouts. Today they recieved their ASM (Australian Scout Medallion). Well done Hannah, Charlie and Kieley on achieving the pinnacle badge in the scout section.

06.01.2022 How Exciting. Today 1st Salisbury reaches 150 youth members. Wow 45 members in 2017 and now 150 in 2019 333% increase in membership. We have 2 mobs, 3 packs, 2 troops soon to be 3troops and a unit.... I am so proud of the work done by so many in the group and this is testament to their hard work. Proud of the team that has been put together and the team we are growing. Sparky The secret - Its about the youth How we did it - I put up on our goal white board in 2017 a plan to get to 100 members but went a bit further with a plan to get to 200. Why because if you set your target higher and get it bonus if not wow you still did pretty good. Goal set was 100 and look at it now. Have the courage to challenge your thinking on what your group can achieve, its only you who decided the height you want the lid of you and your groups potential can be. Lift your lid higher

06.01.2022 As some parents are aware that some members at 1st Salisbury Scout group are in isolation due to a positive test at a nearby school. Please understand that none of our members have tested positive at this stage and as the isolating families have been deemed close contact as a precaution from the state government there is no need to rush and get tested and panic. At this stage we are all in pre infectious stage if we were infected and no risk to other members at scouts or general public. Please see below picture to help understand.

04.01.2022 To our awesome family group, As of today and after 5 years of guiding 1st salisbury scout group it is time for myself - Sparky (Marty Mckee) to walk away from the group leader position. I have enjoyed guiding the group for the last 5 years with 300% growth in numbers and improvements in all 5 key areas for a succesful group. I have given 100% of myself to the role and have really enjoyed the process. Group Leader is not an easy role but when you achieve the goals you set it i...s rewarding with your team. I will be continuing as AGL for 12 month max to allow a new GL to transition and be trainied and still sign forms as required and sign bank accounts, but will no longer run and organse group events etc. It is time for a new direction for the group and a new face to step up. I am proud of what I achieved and the team that was built around me, so many individuals have added to my journey and I want to thankyou for that. I will continue as venturer leader and advocate for the home school scout group in the future. Thankyou for being part of my journey and I look forward to my next challenge. thankyou to all the group for assisting and helping achieve so many goals set. YIS Sparky Marty Mckee See more

04.01.2022 Do you have a New Years resolution to walk more? Need something to keep yourself on track? Would like a little competition? Join us on our walk to Jamboree. We start tomorrow. We have set up a virtual run/walk/cycle as a fundraising activity for Jamboree 2022. The event is hosted on the My Virtual Missions App and as you log your km you see your progress from the Scout Hall to Elmore. The cost is $20 to enter and there are completion certificates for finishers.... The distance is 668km or approximately 13km/week as you have 12 months to complete it (remember you can ride if the target seems too high). This is a great way to stick to some 2021 fitness goals. There is a map showing where you are up to on the trip and there are also a few milestone updates and encouragements along the way. It is as easy as clicking the link below [https://www.myvirtualmission.com/missi//headed-to-jamboree](https://www.myvirtualmission.com//64057/headed-to-jamboree) Once people have registered, they will be invoiced. Once the invoice is paid, I can activate the entry. The mission launches on January 1st but people can register whenever they like even during the 2021 year.

02.01.2022 Some amazing work from Lucy who is in the scout section. Lucy used her last day of lockdown well and made a Scouting Journey board game. The aim is to make appropriate decisions and gain community tokens. You lose tokens for decisions that don’t build community. You can also gain bravery tokens for embracing challenges (or lose them for giving up). She made everything from materials she had at home.
