19.01.2022 Our Joey Scouts have been STEAMing up a storm! Tonight at Joeys they looked at secret picture science experiments they made during the week. They played a game of musical statues using Bilby’s playlist and a game of memory. Have a look at these smiling faces! Check out the link if you would like to try it at home. 19.01.2022 A message from Woodend RSL President, Ken Bryce This year has brought some serious challenges to our way of life. Due to the global pandemic, we have been g...iven an opportunity to slow down and reflect on our thoughts and feelings. So, here we are in unprecedented times. With ANZAC Day fast approaching, we are devastated at not being able to be with family and friends. ANZAC Day is a time to remember what our veterans may have gone through; being away from their families, sometimes for years. For these soldiers, the only contact they had with home were handwritten letters which travelled slowly. Conditions were unbelievable, but a letter from home would give our soldiers hope. These days, luckily, we can communicate using modern technology. Embrace this opportunity to remember and think about all those who went to war. Stand proudly in your driveway with candles at 5:55am and await the 6am time signal. Then bow your head as we all take a minutes' silence in their memory. At 11:30am (4:30am in Gallipoli) we will bow our heads again, as we can hopefully all hear the Last Post. After this, we will raise our heads to welcome a new day together. This will be our service. I am proud to be an Australian as we stand together. I hope that you are coping in this difficult time. Lest We Forget Ken Bryce President Woodend RSL
18.01.2022 It is always better to be informed. Get yourself some free training.
17.01.2022 It's World Scout Day!! We are thrilled to have the volunteering efforts of one of our favourite members recognised officially today. Congratulations to Tricia Garner on her Outstanding Service Award! Thank you for all that you do for us in 1st Woodend!
16.01.2022 On Tuesday night we flew into Los Angeles to visit the Infinite Mirrored Room at the Broad Contemporary Art Museum. Then on the way back we quickly visited the National Art Gallery of Victoria to view Andy Warhol's self portrait. The Burke Pack Cub Scouts then created their own self portraits. Good job everbody.
16.01.2022 It feels very strange for all of us to be sitting at home on our couches. This time every year we have the honour of supporting the Mt Macedon ANZAC Dawn Service and the Woodend ANZAC Parade and Service. Tomorrow we will be with our returned and current service men and women and their families in spirit. In the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them. Lest we Forget.
15.01.2022 We have been a proud supporter of Dawn Service for more than 20 years. Tune in this year to the Service that will be televised from the Shrine. We will see you all on the Mountain next year.
15.01.2022 We know how good Scouting can be ...have a look at this! Scouting is free for all ages to join until March 31 next year. Send us a message and see how you can join in the adventure!
15.01.2022 Our Scouts may be staying safe at home but we are staying connected and continuing to develop our scouting skills. So far we have played UNO via videoconference, made masks, constructed bridges and catapults and we are part way through a lego competition. Our Scouts are awesome!
13.01.2022 Looking for something to do today? How about a science day? There is a rocket launch later today our time in Kazakhstan taking 3 astronauts to the ISS. You can watch it via here: https://www.space.com/space-station-astronauts-expedition-6 Perhaps you can do some science experiments at home to learn about gravity? There are heaps of kid friendly experiments on YouTube. Did you know you can copy a You Tube URL and paste it into www.safeyoutube.net if you want to have a clean, ad free video for the kids to watch.
12.01.2022 How cool are our Rovers? If you are aged 18 to 25 years, send us a message and join an amazing group of people for all sorts of fun and adventure. Scouting is free until March 31 next year....now is the time to give it a try!
10.01.2022 Over the last few months, we have been working with 2nd Woodend Scout Group to consider a merge of the two groups. Sadly, the merger is not going ahead on the advice from Scouts Victoria....partially due to the numbers of people involved. You may not be aware that that there are over 170 youth members between our two groups...that is a huge number of young people involved in Scouting in our lovely Woodend community and a merge would have resulted in what’s commonly referred t...o in the state as a supergroup. Those numbers are an amazing reflection on how much scouting has to offer to so many. I am incredibly proud of all of our Leaders and our Committee Members for all of the work that they have put in behind the scenes to consider the possibility of a merge. I have been very privileged to spend time working with and getting to know the leadership of 2nd Woodend. Thank you everyone for the effort and care and thought that you continually put into great outcomes for all of the youth members in the Woodend area. BRAVOOOO!
07.01.2022 We are here if you need help to take a breath. Gratitude (for what we DO have), Empathy (what do others need?) and Mindfulness (take a moment to breathe). Send us a message to say hello...Scouts are always keen to connect with and support our community.
04.01.2022 This is how Burke Pack finish our weekly Pack meeting. We have a story or yarn and sit in the dark around our "campfire" It is a relaxing time just before we sign off and allows some quite time before bed. At the end of National Reconciliation Week, we heard a wonderful story "Waterlilies" from Kakadu read by Chanaka's mum, Lisa. This was a story of a rich Indigenous food source and of traditional life that traces a young boy’s instruction in food-gathering..
01.01.2022 What a week! All of our scouts have had awesome zoom meetings this week. We have had games, dancing, navigation lessons and lots of chatter between kids. All topped off by a 'camp in' last night...check out these grinning faces!
