16.01.2022 Can anybody assist with a tip-run? As you would know, the start-of year clean and tidy-up happened last week. A big effort and the hall looks good (and the access steps are amazing).... Quite a bit of rubbish has gone but there are a couple of trailer loads left. If you have a trailer/Ute/truck and can assist by taking the remaining load (probably two loads for a smaller box trailer), please let us know so we can organise this. It would be great if we can get it all cleared up this week, ready for the Joeys, Cubs, Scouts and Venturers next week.

14.01.2022 Update Revival Weekend It looks like nice weather for scout activities this weekend. The only change from the original program has been for Cubs and Joeys. Despite concerted efforts by the leaders, no pool is available (thank you COVID-19 ). Of course our leaders are never beaten and have pulled together some exciting alternative (land-based) activities.... Saturday evening will be very special. A campfire, presentation of some very special awards to our outstanding youth members, farewells for several long-term adult leaders (over 130 years of service as leaders!) and live entertainment by Liam Johnston. We’ll be running our BBQ for free sausages and burgers as well. The Lord Mayor of Hobart and Chief Commissioner of scouting will be attending the Campfire and presentations. The City of Hobart support has made this weekend’s activities possible thank you. Sunday will start on the water for Scouts and Venturers and finish with a ‘bring your family and friends’ lunch. Catering: Fruit and drink all day on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday lunch and dinner: BBQ. Lunch Sunday: Pizza.

14.01.2022 Good morning all and welcome to the last week of Term 3. You will be glad to know that we have a great fundraising opportunity coming up and your help will be appreciated (as always). On Sunday, 18 October, 1s Derwent has been offered the opportunity to run a Sausage Sizzle at the Glenorchy Bunnings. You can help out by signing up as a volunteer using the link below. ... We are relying on adults because of the Bunnings rules (only people over 18) so please consider signing up for one or more slots. volunteersignup.org/QRB8P

13.01.2022 Support local charities this Christmas The PWS will continue a new Christmas tradition to allow local volunteer and charitable organisations to cut down pine t...rees at Seven Mile Beach Public Reserve this festive season. The Tasmanian community can support these local volunteer groups by purchasing a tree from one of the groups to assist in their fundraising efforts. Permits have been provided to Lenah Valley Fire Brigade, Derwent Sea Scouts and Wellington Rover Scouts. The past practice of members of the public cutting down their own Christmas tree is no longer permitted to ensure the security of adjoining properties and safety of visitors. WHERE TO GET YOUR CHRISTMAS TREE Lenah Valley Fire Brigade December 5-6 and 12-13 Lenah Valley Fire Station Derwent Sea Scouts December 5-6 and 12-13 Cambridge Park Shopping Complex Wellington Rover Scouts December 5 from 10am-3pm at Harmony Garden Centre, Lauderdale Lenah Valley Fire Brigade 1st Derwent Sea Scout Group Wellington Rover Crew

09.01.2022 IMPORTANT UPDATE - Christmas Tree Harvest & Sale - The permit from to harvest trees has not arrived yet. As a result, following a meeting of the Group Support Committee tonight, it was though safer to postpone the harvesting for a few days and focus on the sale on 4/5 December.... Thank you all for your assistance - I will let you all know when the permit comes through. If it is granted during the week, some of us may be able to do the harvesting this weekend - if we have enough able-bodied people and a few trailers. Thanks to Geoff (for arranging Cambridge Park and applying for the permit 14 days ago), Matt for his advice, Graeme for getting his boat trailer ready and all others who have started to reserve the time. Watch this space!

09.01.2022 Enough wood for the campfire on Saturday?

08.01.2022 FUNDRAISING OPPORTUNITY We have a great opportunity to raise some funds at the start of the year. On Friday, 22 January we have been asked to host a sausage sizzle and drinks stand (soft drinks, coffee and tea) at a farm auction in Colebrook.... The activity kicks off (in Colebrook) at 9 am so it's an 8 am start for those of us in Hobart. We should be finished by 2 pm. If you can spare a few hours, please join the team. Youth members (senior Cubs to Venturers) can assist. If you have a trailer (to take the Derwent BBQ to and from Colebrook), please let Craig know. For further information please contact Craig ([email protected]) for further details and put your name in the roster. This will be a small scale sausage sizzle and coffee/tea/drinks stand. 211 Scotts Road, Colebrook TAS, Australia, TAS. (This is about an hour's drive from Hobart). volunteersignup.org/WRA8K

08.01.2022 Thank you to the workers today. Almost ready for Term 1.

08.01.2022 Cubs and Joeys were treated to a visit from Lenah Valley Fire Brigade on Thursday evening. The group had an extensive tour of the appliance and found out some of the exciting things firefighters get up to in the line of duty. Thanks, LVFB!

07.01.2022 Thank you to all those people who joined us for our revival weekend, we hope you’ve had a great time. Thanks to City of Hobart for providing a $500 grant to allow us some of the fun we’ve had over the weekend. Thanks as well to our leaders for putting on a great weekend, particularly our new group leader, Klaus for all of the hard work put in, in preparation.
