25.01.2022 Thanks to all our families who helped at today's working bee. It was the first one we've had since Covid-19 hit, so there was lots to do, and lots got done. Great to see the Joeys spearheading some essential earthworks around the hall .
24.01.2022 HoHoHo! Time to get your tree on! Get yours at https://1ns-scouts-trees.myshopify.com/
19.01.2022 We set a new troop record tonight with a 24m bridge and nailed the adventurer construction badge :).
16.01.2022 Our Joeys had a blast building cubby houses (er, bush shelters) tonight. Joey Leader to Joeys: "...and we'll come and get you in the morning". Joeys: "Hooray!".... (They're all safely in their own bed tonight)
15.01.2022 We had our first Venturer Unit climbing trip last Sunday. It was a beautiful day to be out in the Blue Mountains. Good to see some first leads and other personal milestones from our Venturers. Thanks Adrian and Bec for all of your supervision & guidance. Looking forward to the next trip.
14.01.2022 Thank you North Sydney Council for our Small Grant to purchase 2 x Garmin InReach beacons. It's like a PLB, but it provides two way communications via satellite. It's just another way we can keep our Scouts and Venturers doing adventurous activities while making sure help is at hand if they ever need it.
10.01.2022 A big congratulations to Cathy Foley, Joey Scout Leader at 1st St Ives Scout Group, who has been appointed Australia's Chief Scientist! Image credit: Louie Douvis, Australian Financial Review
09.01.2022 1st North Sydney Venturers abseiling tonight. Beautiful night to be out. Big shout out to David Mason for facilitating the night and supervising our more experienced Venturers while they rigged pitches.
03.01.2022 [Excercise] Our Scouts crash landed somewhere near Mangrove Creek last weekend. Fortunately they were able to find enough material among the plane wreckage to improvise individual shelters and signal a search plane/trailer which then dropped ration packs for the Scouts to survive on. In the meantime the 1NS Venturers responded to the incident, hiking into the crash zone through untracked bush. In a bizarre twist, a gentleman turned up from the UTS Rocketry Club and taught the Scouts how to build and launch rockets. How random :).
