25.01.2022 60km training ride around the swan river with 15knots SE headwinds this morning: John, Lloyd, Cameron. The many hills along fremantle/bicton is a constant reminder to keep the fire alive in the heart and the strength in the mind.

25.01.2022 134.88kms, average speed 22km/h

23.01.2022 Day 1 of riding was challenging, it was raining from the get go, and windy off the coast. Didnt stop raining until around 9:00am, but was sporadic between Albany to Denmark. Plenty of unsealed roads so the vibrations through the bike frame tests the riders endurance. Certainly a very hilly ride, but no steep inclines. We were happy to see day light after passing through Denmark, where a massive sunbeam breaks through the gloomy cloud cover like a sign that we were meant to finish this.

22.01.2022 Day 4: this is a very different journey as we got out of the countryside and into the big town centres, we travelled along Bussell Highway to get to Bunbury - which was a very rough road. For most of the length of the highway, it was poorly sealed and was generally rough for road bikes (although having said that we did see one cyclist zooming past us near Bunbury). Cycling along Bussell Highway was scary at times, as most vehicles were travelling at 110km/h. There were many b...ig trucks, and Aaron (our support vehicle driver) expressed his concern several times about keeping off the main road despite our right to ride on the left lane of a dual carriageway. Overall: a very flat ride and long boring ride. Lesson learnt: the bigger the town/city, the crazier the drivers.

13.01.2022 Sun is out, and very angry!

13.01.2022 Day 3: with pre-existing pains or injuries compounded today, the general ride was overall sore. Sore thighs, sore quads, sore hamstrings, sore bum. Much less hills, as we were cruising down to the coastal town of Busselton. Cameron fell off again, and we think it should be a daily event when Cam falls off his bike (if he doesnt fall off by the end of tomorrows journey, hell drop voluntarily just to keep the tradition alive). We met some fellow cyclists in Nannup, two elder...ly couple going offroad on a famous local trail. Noticing Cams bubble-wrapped seat, he was promptly called a wuss by the old lady. Nice. It seems like each small town we visited, locals would ask about our purpose for riding, and share a quick but heartfelt story about how they lost a loved one. A modest but generous-spirited donation was always given, and we felt even more determined for our cause to make it to Freo hospital on Thursday afternoon. We are all going to make it.

13.01.2022 Interesting study for the more advanced...

11.01.2022 A poem.. If I Ride

10.01.2022 Day 2: test of will, as the road from Walpole to Pemberton is surrounded by conservation state forests and roads line the landscape across undulating terrain. Almost every kilometre is a hill, and every hill was increasingly tougher. For most of us, the ride the previous day had sapped our energy and made us sore. When nearing Pemberton, we were running purely on will and determination - one of us even fell off the bike on a climb. The sounds of cursing and swearing echoed through the peaceful forests...

09.01.2022 Tim and I both understood we had done something really stupid. We had underestimated the danger involved in going out to sea. We had no radio, compass, life raft or flares. In other words, we were a couple of idiots. This is the story of Shane and Timothy Spall (you may remember him as Wormtail in Harry Potter) and their Dutch barge The Princess Matilda. After a summer on the Thames they head out to sea with only a road atlas and a vast amount of ignorance - and it is absolutely terrifying! What do you do after you survived terminal illness once? You go out there and do something that scares you.. and take your wife with you!!

04.01.2022 Why do we do it? BECAUSE WE LOVE IT!

03.01.2022 Driving down to Albany this morning with the lads, excitement and dread. Mostly excitement, dread comes tomorrow on Day 1.

03.01.2022 Only 3 days to go till we make our way to peaceful Albany! Checking all our support vehicles and equipment/spares are in order, and a real hot day to do it, phew! Bikes in tip top condition, bikers... well... yeah
