25.01.2022 Single-use plastic items will be BANNED after legislation passed with the support of South Australian Labor. This makes South Australia the first State to ban s...ingle-use plastics. Banning single-use plastics is an important part of protecting our environment and keeping South Australia clean.
24.01.2022 Community groups, workplaces, service providers and individuals working towards change.
22.01.2022 This additional payment has helped so many families.
22.01.2022 The Termination of Pregnancy Bill has passed the Lower House; vote 29-15. This is an historic day for the women of South Australia. I congratulate all those w...ho worked on this Bill and the Parliament for endorsing this importance piece of legislation. It makes abortion a health issue, not a criminal one, and makes explicit the higher standard of medical care and decision making that already exists in South Australia. This is about giving women choice. It’s about removing outdated barriers to access for women, while ensuring safeguarding measures are in place where necessary. Thank you Australian Medical Association - SA, SALRI, Hon Michelle Lensink MLC and all those who fought fiercely for this Bill.

19.01.2022 Two recent reports into older women and homelessness, reiterate what we have been saying throughout our Women Ageing Well campaign, that older womens homeles...sness is invisible and also sadly on the rise. Right now and post-covid is a critical point for housing and homelessness policy. This is why WEL is urgently campaigning for reform that recognises the disproportionate impact of the pandemic on women, and on the already dire situation for older women. Please donate to our campaign if you can: https://www.wel.org.au/women_ageing_well_donate The report released by Dr Emma Power of Western Sydney University outlines that single older women aged 55 and over are overrepresented amongst the asset poor in Australia. They are also one of the fastest growing groups of homeless people nationally. (https://researchdirect.westernsydney.edu.au//ob/uws:56836) This Policy Factsheet by Housing for the Aged Action Group and Social Ventures Australia, highlights that 405,000 women aged 45 years and over are estimated as being at risk of homelessness. This includes: 165,000 women aged 45-55 years; and, 240,000 women aged 55 years and over. (https://www.oldertenants.org.au//at_risk_policy_snapshot_a)

18.01.2022 A happy story. A special time this family will remember. Every family wants to do special things for their children but for those on Newstart (JobSeeker) this was frequently impossible. The Coronavirus supplement has eased that pressure.

06.01.2022 Sues life has been changed by the additional money from Centrelink. Its shameful to learn that in Australia, a 59 year old woman would have to live in such appalling conditions.
05.01.2022 These are beautiful and I encourage you to purchase one or both. At the region meeting 27th February please let me know and we can place a bulk order. #soroptimistinternational100years
