21.01.2022 'GENEVIEVE 500' TO BE RESURRECTED IN 2018 Famed car race, the 'Genevieve 500' which happened as a one off in 1992, and saw classic cars literally racing from Pe...rth to Albany is to be resurrected from next year. The name will change to the Great Southern 500 and the goal of organisers is to stage the event every second year in late May as a lead to the Albany Classic. The net is being cast for pre-1940 cars and drivers to register their interest. The original race, organised by the late Paul Terry, was fondly reminisced about by race participant and Channel 7 newsreader Susannah Carr who sat as co-pilot in 'Genevieve,' the 1904 Darracq. "I tell what it was like driving on Genevieve, it was like being on a park bench on wheels. "There's no protection, there's no windscreen, there's nothing and maximum speed of about 40 km/h." And according to Susannah, despite the organisers picking November for the lovely weather - it didn't turn out that way. "It was unbelievable, it was windy, there was hail, down near Albany it snowed." Would she consider doing it again? "Anything is possible...it was such a great experience."
