22.01.2022 One of the #2020SHC magic moments! Glenn Ray "I think this weekend showed other sports what integration is all about" I am truly blessed. I just had a fantastic... weekend. Flew to Sydney to race the 22 km from Manly to the Bridge and back with this incredibly talented crew. In the boat we had 2 Paralympic Champions and 5 World Champions in paddling 6 man outrigger canoes, 1 man outrigger canoes and 1 man sprint and marathon kayaks. Plus, the most amazing lady who coaches some of these crew members who steered us around and then went back and did the same race a second time with her open women crew. We met all our benchmarks in the race racing in the Open mixed class and, I believe we are the first Para Crew in history to medal in an Open Class international long distance event. Finishing third of 14 open, able bodied crews. But not only that, while i was away after the race on Saturday night, i spoke to my beautiful wife who supports me to allow me to still be competing at my grand old age and who had our two starfish in bed with her face timing me with tears in their eyes telling me how much they wished I was home. When i got home, i met the Starfish at Tweed swimming pool and they ran 30m at full pace with huge smiles on their faces and jumped into my arms. ( Fortunately I had time to brace myself against a pole or I would have been tackled into the pool). Great wife, great family and great friends. Who could ask for more?
