24.01.2022 Today we remember the 2,000 Australian men who lost their lives 105 years ago in the four day Battle of Lone Pine. Their courage and sacrifice lives on in memo...rial gardens, schools and civic spaces around Australia, thanks to Lance Corporal Benjamin Charles Smith. LCPL Smith collected several pine cones from the branches used to cover the Turkish trenches and sent them home to his mother in remembrance of his brother Mark, who had died in the fighting on 6 August. From one of these cones two seedlings were raised, with one being planted in Inverell and one on the ground of the Australian War Memorial. 13.01.2022 The Fox Creek mountain bike precinct in Cudlee Creek was a favourite for locals and interstate riders alike, offering a wide variety of trails with beautiful vi...ews through the natural bushland. It sustained extensive damage in the recent bushfires and unfortunately had to be closed due to safety concerns. In conjunction with ForestrySA, 16 Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery Emergency Support Force Teams have been working to restore the vehicle and mountain bike trails by clearing debris from routes and proofing tracks. The task commenced on 31 Jan 20 and was completed on 13 Feb 20, with all tracks cleared for safe access where possible. This paves the way for other agencies to continue the recovery plan for the area as well as restore the landscape. Please stay tuned for further advice from ForestrySA regarding the reopening of the Fox Creek mountain bike precinct to the public. 11.01.2022 #AusArmy Soldiers and officers of the 101st Battery returned to the field following the easing of #COVID19 restrictions, firing a barrage of rounds from four M7...7A2 howitzers during Exercise Ready Hammer. For young Australian Army soldier Gunner Percy Peacock, Exercise Ready Hammer was the first opportunity to deploy to the field environment and experience the sight of multiple field guns in action. I posted into the regiment earlier this year when most activities were put on hold and I hadn’t had the chance to see the guns live fire," Gunner Peacock said. The exciting activity did not disappoint for the new soldier. The direct fire serial marked a great end to a tough three weeks and was a really good experience, he said. Not only was it the first time in 2020 the guns fired in unison, it was also the first opportunity for 101st Battery’s leadership team to work in harmony in the field environment. Please also provide a short sentence outlining the reason for the submission to enable the team to organise the images chronologically and appropriately. When you do send through photos to the details below, be sure to credit the photographer (if possible). The intent is to release the book on 09 October 2021 (the 15 year anniversary of the Regiment). If you would be interested in purchasing a book, please email the address below so we can work out order numbers. Once we have these numbers, we can work out indicative costings. As this information is fleshed out, we will keep you posted. Photo submissions and intent to order the photobook can be made to [email protected] or via DM. 03.01.2022 16 Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery Emergency Support Forces tasks in support of the Lobethal Recovery Centre in the Adelaide Hills have now concluded. Sinc...e 09 Jan 20, the force has assisted over 500 fire affected residents with stock water and fodder delivery, fire-affected tree felling, debris clearance and clearing access routes to their properties. We supported local councils and the state government in restoration of community recreation areas such as the Lobethal Bushland Park and the Fox Creek Mountain Bike Trail. We also assisted in the recovery of native wildlife by building enclosures and helping to care for orphaned koala joeys at Cleland Wildlife Park. We would like to thank the Defence personnel from all three services who arrived from across Australia at short notice to assist us in this operation. It was a privilege to directly help our community and assist them in their recovery. We have connected with amazing local residents and organisations, which has created lasting relationships into the future. As we refocus our efforts to force generation, we are conscious that our community is still in the recovery phase. We remain ready and able to respond if our community needs us again. #YourADF remains closely linked with the National Bushfire Recovery Agency, state and local authorities to ensure continuity of support to affected communities. Thank you to the Adelaide Hills community for your continued support of #OurPeople and we look forward to partnering together again in the future.
