25.01.2022 "The water industry is constantly changing and evolving and utilities around the world are adopting technology to enhance traditional ways of working. Much like a dam or a water treatment plant, technology is an asset we have to manage at Seqwater. In my role as Manager of Digital, Technology and Information Performance, my team and I are working across the organisation to support the integration of technology into different areas of our business, to improve the way we operat...e and to deliver value to customers. It’s a job that requires a lot of research, strategic planning and consultation to understand the needs of the business and identify solutions. Digital transformation can be complex but we want to keep it simple and work with the business to deliver change. Enhancing our workforce through technology has the potential of improving productivity and efficiency. Right now we are developing a digital strategic vision that will help Seqwater meet the demands of our future. I become involved in the water industry in 2006, joining the engineering design team for Seqwater’s Western Corridor Recycled Water Scheme as a consultant. In 2010, I was the Principal Control Systems Engineer at WaterSecure the state authority that managed the Gold Coast Desalination Plant and the Western Corridor Recycled Water scheme before it was merged with Seqwater in 2011. I have been in engineering and technology roles across a range of teams at Seqwater and have been provided lots of different opportunities so that no two years have been the same. I’m proud to be part of the water industry, providing a service to South East Queensland and am excited by the potential we have to continue improving and shaping our services with the use of technology."

24.01.2022 "Mechanics is in my blood. Among my family there are engineers and technical mechanics my grandfather was the first diesel mechanic in New Zealand. When I was 10 years old, I used to race dirt bikes in motocross competitions and would spend a lot of time pulling the bikes apart to repair and tinker with them. Thanks to a number of enhancements I made, my bikes became the fastest on the track. When I was 16, I did a Certificate II in Automotive Mechanical and really enjoyed ...learning about mechanic duties like troubleshooting and servicing and repairing mechanical components and systems. When the opportunity arose to become an apprentice for the Mechanical Team at Seqwater I decided to apply so I could further my passion for engineering on a practical level. Since being here I’ve had the opportunity to perform a variety of mechanical maintenance work, inspections, repairs and installations across a number of water treatment plants, reservoirs and other operational sites across South East Queensland. It’s great to work at different treatment plants because they are all so unique in terms of the equipment and systems that are used at each site - from the North Pine Water Treatment Plant, which was built in the 70s to the Landers Shute Advanced Water Treatment Plant on the Sunshine Coast. It’s also been invaluable to learn from experienced engineers and tradespeople some of whom have been working in this space longer than I’ve been alive. I finish my four-year apprenticeship this year and am looking forward to becoming a qualified tradesperson and the career pathways it can lead to."

23.01.2022 Unitywater and Seqwater are asking residents in the off-grid community of Dayboro to save water and reduce their water consumption as dry conditions continue.

22.01.2022 This #WaterwiseWednesday, it's all about mulch! Mulch helps the soil conserve moisture, which means you don't have to water as often. Let Claire Bickle Gardening for the GoodLife explain more. For more waterwise tips go to http://bit.ly/2TjNzSB or to check out Claire's tips for roses head to https://bit.ly/3lCtMsV

19.01.2022 Another hot week has seen South East Queensland's combined dam levels decrease to 56.4%. Average water consumption is about 176 litres per person, per day. As dry weather continues, we're asking people to curb usage back to about 150 litres per person per day (about two and a half buckets of water). There are lots of simple ways you can save water, for some ideas, visit: bit.ly/35KoIh2

18.01.2022 The Gold Coast Desalination Plant uses various methods of advanced technology to convert sea water to drinking water. Right now the plant is producing about 120 million litres of drinking water each day, while our region’s combined water level is below 60% If you’ve ever wanted to go behind the scenes and marvel at the innovative engineering behind the desal plant, now is your chance. As part of the Gold Coast Open House 2020, a number of virtual tours of the facility are being held on Oct 17 and 18. Spots are limited, so make sure you book in advance at bit.ly/3nuW2zu

16.01.2022 Small fish in a big pond! In addition to stocking bass in Lake Manchester, we also recently worked with the Hinze Dam Stocking Committee to add 55,000 fingerlings to Hinze Dam (Advancetown Lake). Check out this short video of the work being undertaken.

15.01.2022 The combined level of the drinking water dams in the SEQ Water Grid is now at 58.5%. Average daily water usage crept up this week to 188L per person per day. With dam levels under 60%, we're asking people to be extra #WaterWise as the weather heats up Consider if you need to water the garden at all this weekend, and if you do, remember to do it before 8am or after 4pm to reduce evaporation!
