25.01.2022 Nellie Stewart (18581931) was an incredible singer who toured England, India and the USA, building a solo career in comic and grand opera. Beautiful in face and figure, full of vivacity, a natural actress, she had also an excellent soprano voice which she lost in middle life probably from over-working it. Probably no other woman has ever so successfully played young parts late in life Learn more about Nellie and other remarkable women by taking our UPCOMING "Skirting Sydney.... 24.01.2022 Many locals dont know that The Queen Victoria Building (QVB) is the only building in Sydney to fill an entire city block bound by George, Market, York and Druitt Streets. The dominant feature is the mighty centre dome, consisting of an inner glass dome and an exterior copper- sheathed dome. Glorious stained glass windows and splendid architecture endure throughout the building and an original 19th century staircase sits alongside the dome. Every detail has been faithfully restored, including arches, pillars, balustrades and the intricate tiled floors thus maintaining the integrity of the building. We know Sydney best!

17.01.2022 Abe Saffron Mr Sin was one of the most powerful and successful of Sydneys crime bosses, and also the most unusual. Most of his money came not from standing over other illegal businesses, but from owning and running his own entertainment venues. It just so happened that much of the entertainment he offered mainly illegal alcohol and prostitution was illegal. Because of the need to protect his many establishments, and due to his own business skills, he was a key underworld figure in the corruption of politicians and police for a period of several decades. The fountain is also known as one of the most homoerotic examples of public art in Australia. For the gay community, from around World War II up until the 1950s, the fountain was a beat.
