20.01.2022 Dr Chelsea Guymer & Dr Alecia Macrow use a number of tools and techniques to examine skin thoroughly, beyond what the naked eye can see. Melanomas that are detected and treated early are cured in 90% of cases. So, in addition to self-checking regularly you should have a professional skin check once a year. It is also important to get a professional skin check by a doctor if anything suspicious appears, in addition to having your annual skin check. ... #SPARC #SKIN #SKINCHECK #SKINCANCER

15.01.2022 Recently Sports and Arthritis Clinic Podiatrist Talysha spent some time with #NewBalance tech guru Matt Spicer going over all things footwear. Some great updat...es from some of the NB staple shoes and some innovative footwear will be dropping over the coming months. Probably the highlight for T is the New Balance FuelCell Rebel, which is in T's top 3 all time favourite running shoes. A shoe that's not for everyone, but we're very keen to see what the new model FuelCell Rebel has to offer. Selecting the right shoe for your body type, injury history and chosen activities can make a world of difference! Staying up to date with the latest shoe tech, science & literature is what allows our practitioners to remain at the top of their game and give the best treatment advice available.

15.01.2022 At the start of each preseason, understanding the health and wellbeing of our playing group is critical. Check out what's involved, thanks to Dr Jones & Partners Medical Imaging. #WeAreSixers #SixersPreseason #NBL21

15.01.2022 Uncommon complaints after muscle strains include residual seroma formations. Here Dr. Duncan Walker is draining the fluid under ultrasound which then allows the muscle fibers to come together and heal.

14.01.2022 Our thoughts are with the Frawley family, and the many others going through the difficult situation dealing with brain injuries. While uncommon in sport, one type of brain injury (CTE) can be seen after repeated head contacts / concussions. While all sporting codes and international rules are now consistently trying to reduce risks inherent with repeated head contact, the risks are still very real. If you have any concerns about early recognition of concussion, management, or to reduce risks, there are specialists (Sports and Exercises Physicians) available to help you in this complex and challenging area.

13.01.2022 Great to be involved with Dr Matt Hislop and the State of Origin round 1 win in Adelaide... hopefully more to come!

11.01.2022 There are some early studies starting to show that eating fermented foods can reduce symptoms of IBS and even assist management of inflammatory bowel diseases. But don’t eat because it might be medicinal. Eat it because it’s so damn tasty! Our GP extraordinaire Dr Alecia Macrow regularly has patients see her for IBS (irritable bowel symptoms: bloating, abdominal pain, bowel changesect). Once Dr Macrow has medically assessed her patients she often encourages them to incorpora...te fermented foods into their diets. Method: These are multicoloured beetroots, scrubbed but not peeled, diced and popped in a jar with some fresh thyme and bay leaves from the garden. Cover them with brine (1 tablespoon salt in about 3 cups of filtered water), right to the top so the veggies are completely submerged. The naturally occurring lactobacilli from the surface of the beets will do their thing in this environment to pickle the veggies while out-competing any nasty bugs. I’ll leave this in a cool dark place for perhaps a week or two, ‘burping’ it daily to release any excess gas. Delicious and good for you too. 11.01.2022 The 6 day SA lockdown effective from midnight lastnight is aiming to greatly reduce movement and face-to-face interactions to halt the spread of the latest covid-19 outbreak. The SA Government is asking the SA community to stay home except to get necessary groceries, to seek medical care or in the event of an emergency. As such, for the next 6 days all ‘allied health’ will need to re-schedule appointments that cannot be done via telehealth. We apologise for the inconvenience ...to the many clients waiting to see our allied health professionals; podiatrist, physiotherapists, dietician and massage therapist, and understand that many have been waiting weeks to see them! Some consultations, especially for many of you runners needing load management advice/direction, can utilise his Telehealth services in this period. However, a lot of SA runners may find a few lower-leg niggles get a nice 6 day period to settle down ! We will aim to accommodate/create more consultation time slots for the future as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please contact us at SPARC on 8234 9707, [email protected] PLEASE NOTE: Our medical team of Sports Physicians (essential workers), Dr Geoffrey Verrall & Dr. Duncan Walker will still be taking appointments. Enjoy this photo of Dr Walkers dog Pickles the Pug in her mask!

11.01.2022 A new SPARC member!!! Our Podiatrist Mike and his wife, Christine, welcomed Miss Zara Nitschke to the world on the 24th of July. Mum and Zara are doing really w...ell. 11.01.2022 Wheezing Chest tightness Persistent coughing Decreased ability to exercise... Spirometry testing is a standard test doctors use to measure how well your lungs are functioning. The test works by measuring airflow in and/or out of your lungs and sometimes repeating the test after bronchial dilating medication. We use Spirometry tests to diagnose and manage asthma and other disorders affecting lung function. Book in with our doctors and nurse for your full lung function assessment.
