24.01.2022 SHOULD PEOPLE BE ALLOWED TO DRIVE ON LUCKY BAY BEACH? Visitors to Lucky Bay in Esperance will be allowed to drive on the beach this summer. A survey was launched last year to review whether the practice should be allowed to continue as the beach sometimes hosts close to 300 cars at a time.... The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions told the ABC, it was still reviewing the survey results and there were no new restrictions in place. Mark Skeels from the WA 4WD Association said beach driving was a draw card for tourists but drivers need to behave. You can't go ripping up and down the beaches and normal road rules apply, so you must give way to pedestrians, he said. A lot of people, no matter whether they go on a 4WD on the beach or go on a scooter in Bali, they leave their brain at home because they're on holidays. You can't do that.

23.01.2022 KALGOORLIE MP THROWS SUPPORT BEHIND DEAN NALDER AS NEW WA LIBERAL LEADER Member for Kalgoorlie Kyran O'Donnell said he will support Shadow Treasurer Dean Nalder to replace Liza Harvey as WA Liberal leader. Ms Harvey announced yesterday she would be stepping down from the position to give her party an opportunity to reset its election strategy.... Health spokesman Zak Kirkup and Mr Nalder both declared they would nominate for the position. Mr O'Donnell said Ms Harvey's decision was unexpected but there's no reason the party can't win the election. "Prior to COVID I thought we were in with a huge chance, COVID, Premier got a huge swing to him, understandable, but there's no reason why we can't turn things around and be re-elected," he said. Mr O'Donnell said he preferred Mr Nalder for his economic background and his vision for the future but he will support whoever the party chooses. "It would be great if just one member nominated so we could all unify behind [them], but at the moment two have nominated," he said. "Whoever gets in we are going to support."

17.01.2022 Tensions between China and Australia have been simmering for a while now and the rocky relationship could be about to head to a whole new level. After hitting our barley and then our beef exports, now it seems China could be turning its back on a big chunk of our other commodities starting, potentially, from today.

14.01.2022 HOW DO YOU LIKE TO READ? When book giants like Borders shut down hundreds of shops around Australia nearly a decade ago, the end of the classic book shop seemed imminent. This was pushed further with the emergence of new ways to ‘read’ including audio books and e-readers. ... However, independent book shop owner Donna Hutcheson has found there is an insatiable appetite for reading the traditional way even among young readers. Ms Hutcheson has just opened Book Boutique in Kalgoorlie, five years after opening Book Box in Esperance, which she sold to a new owner last year. The response has been phenomenal, Ms Hutcheson said. I think reading from paper is far more relaxing. Do you still read the classic way? Tell us in the comments below.
