23.01.2022 Evening walk, with ducks! So lovely. I hope you all are getting outside a little, each day. Stay strong, friends

23.01.2022 THREE essential steps all of us can take to slow the spread of viruses. We each have a huge role in protecting the vulnerable in our community as well as each ...other. The most important things we can do to slow down the rampant spreading of this virus are actually very simple: 1. It is highly recommended that we practice social distancing, which means no contact greetings such as hand shakes, and kisses, and radically limiting our visits into densely populated, enclosed environments. If you feel you have a slight fever, a dry cough, a little run down or a tickle in your throat that could develop into a cough, please stay home, rest and keep your symptoms at home with you. When coughing and sneezing, make sure you do it into a tissue, chuck that tissue into the bin and then wash your hands with soap, or if you have no tissues, cough/sneeze into your elbow or upper arm, NOT your hands. 2. Washing your hands with regular every day soap is the most effective way to kill virus on your skin, that you have picked up from coughing, sneezing, blowing your nose or from surface contact. Soap dissolves the contact the virus uses to attach to our skin, water washes it away to die. If you dont have soap and water, use hand sanitiser. A hint for the hand wash... we are still in water restrictions. Wet your hands, and then TURN OFF THE TAP. Scrub with soap to your favourite hand wash tune for 20 seconds, then turn tap on again to rinse off. Please dont run the taps for 20 seconds or more every time you wash your hands. 3. To boost immunity and wellbeing, eat simple clean food! Stay away from processed, refined and packaged food, sugary food and drinks, and junk food snacks and drinks. Our body can only build an immune defence as good as the fuel we offer it, and our bodies need very specific nutrients to do that. Safe to say, eat a rainbow of fruit and veg every day and you have it covered. Drink filtered or spring water over any other beverage, consume healthy fats such as coconut oil, flaxseed oil, olive oil, nuts, seeds, oily fish and organic meat (for the meat eaters) and you are doing the best you can to help your body create what it needs to stay strong. We dont need to eat a lot, its quality over quantity. Viruses dont attack everyone the same, they are opportunistic, and will attach to the weakest host where they dont have to fight for survival. Over the coming weeks I will post up my little recipes, for inspiration and help with simple home made remedies. Finally, please be gentle to yourselves and each other. Slowing the spread of illness is a community effort of kindness, consideration, common sense and these three basic steps of self management, hygiene, and wellbeing.

22.01.2022 We see plenty of kids in our clinics. Here Andrea Hernandez, practitioner from USA is treating some of the children who regularly come to our clinic at Tistung.... In children we commonly see cases of ear infections, gastric and respiratory complaints, boils, skin problems etc. For most, treatment involves a combination of education, hygiene, nutritional advice, TCM and western medicines . 19.01.2022 Thanks Dr Sarah Buckley for this endorsement of our book Birthing Outside the System-the Canary in the Coal Mine #BOTS #Canaryinthecoalmine #ENOUGH How ...do women perceive risk in childbearing? Do women really make dangerous choices for themselves and their babies? What is a safe birth? And how can we help women to feel safe? These critical questions are addressed by midwives, obstetricians, lawyers and birthing women themselves in this illuminating and important book Dr Sarah Buckley, GP, author of Gentle Birth, Gentle Mothering

15.01.2022 I wrote a longish post yesterday to say I will - for the first time after several months of ill-health - be at our monthly service tomorrow. Also, I will be spe...aking on HOPE...so sorely needed by many. However, that post for some unknown reason didnt "post" so am trying again...all details on the flyer. Would be gorgeous to see any of you who will be in Sydney and wish to experience a truly inclusive gathering for personal and world peace. Peace be with you wherever you are. See more

13.01.2022 Another bit of good news yesterday, when a NSW RFS firefighter spotted a scared possum and her baby crawl under a car at the Charmhaven fire on the Central Coas...t. The firefighter got to the driver just in time before the car was moved, and then spent time coaxing mum and bub out from underneath the car. The possums are well and were handed to RSPCA NSW for care and treatment.

12.01.2022 Good morning. An addition to yesterdays update. Locally the fire danger today is Very High. It will be hot and we need to be vigilant. As always, if you see a...n unattended fire, call 000. We have had a few live smoke areas well within the Erskine Creek area over the last day or so. This just goes to show how potentially active the fire areas can be. National Parks will do aerial patrols, as well as ground patrols. RFS brigades are also available and ready. RFS sent another rotation of crews yesterday to Region South. They have done this on previous days over the last week as well. We wish them safety. See more

10.01.2022 I am beside myself with joy to be holding the beautiful Rhea Dempseys book Beyond the Birth Plan in my hands. I was honoured to take a look at the manuscript ...last year and this is so exciting to see. Rheas book Birthing with Confidence is still one of my most borrowed (and recommended) books. I highly recommend this book. Happy Friday everyone See more

09.01.2022 I feel I should let yall know that under AHPRA regulations, I continue to practice at both Winmalee Neighbourhood Centre (in my low cost practice for women on low or no incomes) and at Glenbrook Yoga Space. Of course, at each location my clients are asked to wash hands before entering the treatment space, all linen is clean, and paper towels are used plentifully to avoid skin contact where possible. I wear a surgical face mask if requested As with most medical practice protocols, it is requested that anyone with CV19 symptoms or contact get those symptoms checked before attending clinic. I love my work, and enjoy helping my clients, and assure you that I will continue in my role as allied health practitioner as long as possible

08.01.2022 Are you in the 2nd or 3rd trimester of your pregnancy? We are currently investigating the nature of an expectant mothers speech to her baby, both in utero and... post-birth, to improve our understanding of mother-infant interaction. Participation in this study involves visits to the MARCS BabyLab to take part in audio/video recording sessions where you will chat with the baby in your tummy, and a researcher. To find out more about our important research study, please contact Alana Weithaler on 0433 636 285, or email: [email protected] This study has been approved by the Western Sydney University Human Ethics Committee. 07.01.2022 The sleep industry in the West is huge. The obsession with getting babies to sleep longer and more deeply than is appropriate for their developmental age is a... burden many parents experience. HOW DO I GET THEM TO SLEEP! HOW DO I GET THEM TO SLEEP THROUGH? HOW DO I GET THEM TO NAP LONGER? HOW DO I GET THEM TO NAP NOT ON ME? Parents feel they are somehow failing if their baby doesnt nap for X minutes, or sleep a total of X hours a day, or if baby needs their help getting to sleep. Parents can feel ashamed, like they are lacking skill, like theyre not cut out for parenthood, like they dont know what theyre doing, and are often sold the unhelpful lie that baby sleep is the most important thing to nail in the first year. Again, otherwise youre failing. This is a Friday reminder from us - that you are not failing. In many parts of the world, infant sleep is not such an obsession. Life goes on around it and the mother isnt basing her worth on such a small fragment of what it means to love and care for a baby. Your baby is so much more than their ability to sleep deeply and for a long time. This isnt the sole reason they came into the world. They came into the world to be a person for you to love, for you to hold, for you to enjoy, for you to get to know. There are good nights, less good nights, ok nights and awful ones. Better nap days, train wreck nap days, no nap days and great nap days. Every single parent has to learn to ride the highs and surf the lows. There is no escaping them. You get the picture.... Imagine how much less stressed those at home looking after babies and toddlers would be if they really knew this in their hearts. It doesnt mean sleep isnt important, and that Mums/Dads dont need a break in the relentlessness of it all. Of course they do. But if society stopped focusing in on sleep as a measure of the worth of the parent, or the success of a parent & instead understood normal infant sleep and supported parents while they were in the trenches of it in those early years, imagine how different it could be. Im sure were not the only ones who think that would be a great shift in thinking and therefore parental experience. Youre not failing. And neither is your baby. Have a great weekend.
