21.01.2022 Looking forward to hosting this Workshop with Nick Melidonis in Fremantle

20.01.2022 Holy. Sh*t. Have slightly come back down to Earth after recieving a call from the Inaugural The Portrait Conference in Sydney to the news that I’ve managed to w...in first prize with this image of Monique in their Print Competition... a 44 Epson Large format printer the size of a small Whiskey Bar! ...and this is after coming second in the Online Open Competition in the lead up (thanks for the D850 Body Nikon! ) It’s been a rather massive couple of months - and I’m blown away and completely grateful. Hugest thanks to the most generous Mr Robert Gatto and Kayell Australia and Mr Peter Eastway for hosting the Potrait Conference and printing my image to a standard that must have done it proud - legends . ...and thanks to Roger from Epson Australia for the (pretty awesome) phone call & fine art 11 ink Whiskey Bar and to Nikon Australia for the D850 beast (I am definitely converting) - and to all three Companies for your continuing support of the Australian Photographic Industry - from the grass roots level UP. Stoked. Now to plan a 44 Epson print of a 45.7MP Nikon shot portrait. Just need a lens #theportraitconference #epsonaustralia #nikonaustralia #whiskeybarprinter (Oh, and of you’d like to donate to end violence against children (who wouldn’t!?), my son Zac and I are Polished Men this month. https://my.polishedman.com/steve-zac-wise #blatantplug )

14.01.2022 Great afternoon rounding out the two day Fremantle Centre for Creative Photography weekend - ripping out a quick-fire fine art portrait shoot, edit and print fo...r Dale, Nigel, Seng and Michelle. Thanks to Jacinta for modelling (and having to hold her arm up for a while pretending she was holding an owl ) and to Ben and Team Digital for the use of the mighty Hasselblad X1D and all it’s massive 50MP So, a black curtain, a placemat and belt from the Op-shop, a stock image spotted owl-hawk, a professional flick of air from Nigel and a quick 30 min edit - and here’s the print... Not perfect, but not a bad result (in front of 30 odd people! )

08.01.2022 It’s been a massive couple of weeks. In more ways than one... and I’m only just becoming coherent enough now to be able to let the beast that is the AIPP Austr...alian Professional Photography Awards in Melbourne sink in. I managed to walk away as the 2018 AIPP Australian Portrait Photographer of the Year I’m not sure how it happened - and with all the post-APPA business going on it still hasn’t quite sunk in yet. But it will. I had a great year of results with what I guess I’ll call a royal flush(?) managing a Silver, Silver Distinction, Gold and Gold Distinction. A personal best and far outdoing any results I could have dreamed of. ...and then to be a finalist in the company of crew I’ve been drooling over images of theirs for years like Damien Bowerman, Michael Teo, my very good mate Keren Dobia and my new APPA brother Bruce Moyle... couldn’t have been more stoked and humbled. Wasn’t expecting to win though. It took the wind out of me. Pretty bloody cool It was an honour receiving the Award from one of the most generous of people in Robert Gatto on behalf of Kayell and Canson. Rob’s been one of the strongest supporters of the AIPP and APPA for far longer than I’ll ever know and has been a strong supporter of my work over the last few years - so huge thanks mate. Also thanks to my portrait subjects Scott Dixon, Peter Hunter, Anton Puzey and Monique for letting me create. We did good To say it’s been a busy year in the lead up to APPA is an understatement. We almost didn’t have an AIPP let alone an APPA. ...and look at what a success it was. I don’t know how it happened but I’ve found myself in various postions within the machine that is the AIPP - and have been afforded a unique insight into the running of an Awards like we have from nearly every angle. From the National Boards perspective and the sheer amount of work that’s going on, especially with the Sponsors/Trade Partners and Trade Show leading up to APPA - from the Awards Team perspective and the massive amount of organisation necessary to pull off a National Awards like this, including rules, judges, stats, validations, complaints(!) and everything in between - and from an Event Team perspective and the ridiculously well oiled machine that they are back of house - I continue to be in awe of how in control of the whole operation they are. So my humblest and hugest thanks to the leaders - without who we seriously would be f*%ed - Sue Lewis, Tony Hewitt and John Swainston. Thank you. To the other person who worked like a machine behind the scenes and basically administered a National Office’s amount of work for APPA to run - Kim Harding. Thank you mate. ...and the rest of the crew who I’ve had the privilege to work along side this year Jan Ramsay, Rachel Crampton Smith, Kez, Felicity Biasi, Katrina Ferguson, Carla Mahony, Robyn Campbell, Bill Bachman, Mark Zed, Bruce Pottinger, Louise Bagger, Melinda Comerford, Melissa Neumann, David Simmonds, Craig Wetjen and Bruce Moyle & Dan McColl for sorting out the APPA Livestream. ...and Sharifa Ghionis for the admin work behind the scenes and keeping the AIPP running. You’re also a machine. Thanks all for your help, support and working over and above to pull off an awesome APPA. ...and the Volunteers. Volunteerism is certainly not dead - it’s alive a kicking. Hard. Congrats to all of the Category winners and a massive congrats to Chris Saunders for taking out the PPY. Never a humbler man have I met. ...and WA kicked arse. Just saying. The term ‘family’ was mentioned quite a few times during the presentations - from both Members and Sponsors. I really believe the AIPP Family is stronger than ever. ...and my own family have been my biggest support network. I’ve been home less than ever this year and as photographers our work can mean weekends away from the family - let alone nearly two weeks at APPA time. To my wife Christy - thanks for believing that all this time, work, meetings, travel, swearing, late nights and busy weekends will be worth it for the AIPP and for me.

04.01.2022 1 child dies every 5 minutes as a result of violence. Have a think about that. How many kids do you know. How many kids in your family? How many little mates ...do you have that you’d protect above all else?! POLISHED MAN - October 2018 (After a slow start) Zac and I are fundraising for YGAP's Polished Man 2018 campaign because we believe we can help move towards a world in which no child suffers from violence. 1 child dies every 5 minutes as a result of violence. This shit should not be happening. We're doing this because it’s the right thing to do. We’re both pretty passionate about this cause - we have many many little mates in our lives. We’d be stoked if you we’re able to make a donation and help support this worthy cause. Even the smallest amount will help. This crew are looking to make Polished Man 2018 the biggest year yet! Here’s the link to donate: https://my.polishedman.com/steve-zac-wise Thank You - from the Wisey’s (Zac and Steve) Polished Men. (*yep, actual heights )

03.01.2022 **** PROJECT STREET 7:30 Coming to Perth in Jan..! **** So Craig Wetjen and Steve Scalone are good friends of mine - they are also professional photographers wh...o raise a truckload of money for charity through their Street Photography Project - www.projectstreet.com.au These guys have teamed up to create a unique opportunity for local photographers to become part of a special photographic collaboration. A fun and challenging day that starts with shooting the streets of Perth, editing and printing your image to then having it displayed within an amazing exhibition space All in one day and all for charity! Anglicare WA. The plan is to have thirty photographers start the day in Perth CBD to spend a few hours concentrating on what you love to photograph within the city of Perth. We would love you to be one of those thirty photographers. After the photography, we would make our way to NM TAFE 12 Aberdeen Street, Perth and directly across the road from the Gallery a where there will be printers and computers at the ready to print your image to be hung in the gallery ready for the exhibition opening at 6:00pm the same night. Craig and Steve already have great sponsors on board including Epson Australia, Canson Australia, Ilford Imaging Australia and Kayell Australia and localsTeam Digital and Camera Electronic. They've teamed up with a great gallery space located at North Metropolitan TAFE who are excited to be part of it as well as being a major sponsor for the venue. So paper and printing is completely taken care of. There is a $125 fee to participate which will go to towards the organising costs. Also there are plans to invite the media and an auction of the prints all to go to charity on the night. They've already raised over $20,000 for charity in Melbourne and Adelaide in 2017. These guys would really love you to consider being a part of this project - to create an amazing exhibition together and continue to connect photography with the local community. GET ON BOARD WITH THIS BEFORE SPOTS RUN OUT! Christmas present anyone?! To register go to https://www.projectstreet.com.au/store Watch some outtakes from a video shot at Melbourne event last year https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BahXStg_L5I Would be awesome to see you there!
