19.01.2022 The ACT has a single new case of Coronavirus, not related to the government-facilitated flight that arrived yesterday. The new case is a returning overseas diplomat, a woman aged in her 50s. She flew into Sydney International Airport on the 23rd of November ... The woman travelled to Canberra by private vehicle. She has followed all the correct processes and has been quarantining since her return to the ACT and is being supported by ACT Health. Two close contacts have been followed up, it's understood the risk to these people is low. Andrew Page, Capital Radio News.

That means the next festival won't be held until January 2022. The event is a major tourism drawcard for the ACT attracting about 100,000 visitors and 2000 cars.... ACT Health is also using exhibition park as a COVID testing facility meaning organisers can't confirm if the venue will be available. Andrew Page, Capital Radio News. Photo: Summernats

14.01.2022 ACT Police will this month turn their focus to L and P plate drivers. Speed continues to be an issue with 436 P plate drivers issued an infringement notice for speeding this year. That includes 22 detected travelling more than 45 kilometres an hour over the speed limit.... Officer in Charge of Road Policing, Detective acting Superintendent Marcus Boorman says teaching young drivers the right way to drive is crucial, and that starts at home.

13.01.2022 It's a sad farewell to hitmaker Max Merritt. OZ ROCK LEGEND PASSES: Australian and New Zealand Hall of Fame recipient, Max Merritt, 79, passed away today, Thursday 24 September 2020, in a Los Angeles hospital after a long battle with his failing health. Best known for his hit songs, Slipping Away and Western Union Man, Max’s health had been in decline since being diagnosed with Goodpasture syndrome, a rare but serious autoimmune disease that attacks the lungs and kidneys. ... Long time friend and Personal Manager, Wal Bishop, said Max had been on dialysis three days every week since he fell ill back in 2007. He really put up a great fight and will be sadly missed by all that knew and loved him. In October 2007, the entertainment industry rallied in support of Merritt with a concert that raised well over $200,000.00 for him. Bishop said, Over 20 household name artists, including Daryl Braithwaite, John Paul Young, James Reyne and Ross Wilson, came together with over 50 Musicians and 70 production crew to support the man that was greatly admired’. Born in Christchurch on 30 April 1941, Merritt made Australia his home and became the undisputed king of Soul. During the 60s, he moved to the UK before settling down in Los Angeles in the 70s. He continued to tour Australia and New Zealand regularly until 2007, "Max had been unable to perform live over the past 13 years but, when he felt up to it, would go into the studio to record. He even shot a video to go with the tracks, it’s a shame he won’t be around to see it. Max Merritt is survived by his daughter Kelli, son Josh and three grandchildren.

07.01.2022 Potential storms forecasted for next week. As you head off for school holidays, it is important to make sure your home is prepared for potential storms forecas...ted by BoM for next week. If you are not prepared for storm or flood, your risk to property damage increases. In the worst storms, ESA unfortunately cannot attend to every request for assistance immediately. Complete these steps this weekend, to better protect your home. Help us help you, by being prepared. More information here: esa.act.gov.au/cbr-be-emergency-ready/storms

03.01.2022 English rocker, Marc Bolan was born in London UK on this day, September 30, 1947. Marc had become a huge star in the UK, and at sometime in the early to mid-'70s, he was probably the biggest pop star we had. He had a massive teenybopper audience, yet secretly the cool rock music lovers in Australia appreciated how good he really was. After starting off in a small duet Bolan shortened the group's name to T. Rex and wrote and recorded Ride a White Swan, dominated by a rolling, ...hand-clapping back-beat and Bolan's electric guitar (he was a great guitarist). When released, the single took forever to work its way into the charts, eventually peaking at No.2 His first Australian Top 10 single was Hot Love in 1971. Other Australian chart hits included Get it On 71, Jeepster 71, Telegram Sam 72, Metal Guru 72, Children of the Revolution 72, Solid Gold Easy Action 73 and 20TH Century Boy 1973. On 16th Sept 1977, the 29 year old singer was killed instantly when the car driven by his girlfriend, Gloria Jones, left the road and hit a tree in Barnes, London. The couple were on the way to Bolan's home in Richmond after a night out at a Mayfair restaurant. Bolan's music lives on today on the radio, in television ads and in movie soundtracks. See more
