Please though: we do not want to add plastic to the environment there unless it is strong and will not break. We also need to consider age appropriateness so no little parts or toys that break easily/ can be swallowed. Also: no broken toys pls. Drop-off points are in Robina and Holland Park. If you live in the Sunny Coast and would like to be a drop off point, please sing out! Thank you! Chantal (The photos below are from three of the kindy classes we did in 2018 in Santo. The three classes took us just 1 1/2 days in total to refurb/ refit/resupply. 6 months of planning went in to that project beforehand.
13.01.2022 VANUATU KINDY PROJECT Our partners in crime (Torquil Macleod, Nich Woolf and Tanny Warele) visited Najara to asses the site and to share plans with the committee and users of the kindergarten. Lots of useful suggestions and commitment to making it happen.
12.01.2022 VANUATU KINDY PROJECT ALDI have another special coming up; this time for wooden toys suitable for kindy age group. Below are the pages showing items and prices. Please, if you’re able to co tribute even one item to the collection, it will be immensely appreciated by the pikininis.
11.01.2022 WILL YOU BE PART OF THE FUTURE? Two Llamas has been helping the villagers of Vanuatu since 2015. Now, they need us more than ever. Our person on the ground - Mayumi Green - has informed us that all TC Harold destroyed all kindies (except one) in the south of Santo.... We may be isolated from each other, but that’s no excuse not to get planning for when the borders reopen and to start gathering donations to ship across. If you’d like to help us rebuild a village kindy or primary school, please throw your hat in the ring. We will need the following: Carpenters Builders Concrete layer Painters Plumber Sparky Fund raisers A sea worthy 20’ shipping container Assistance with paying for shipping/ freight/ clearance fees Second hand school desks/ benches and chairs for little people Strong wooden shelves (not metal please as they rust) Wooden educational toys and building blocks (no plastic) Dolls and stuffed animals (no small easily breakable ones) Farm/ zoo animals and dinosaurs (strong plastic only) Toy cars (wood only) Ride-on toys that are strong (not plastic) Sports equipment like balls and skipping ropes (suitable for kids under 6 years of age) Early learning and story books Craft and art supplies Large floor mats Educational posters Chalk/ pencils/ colouring pencils/ crayons (no plastic textas) Tools, rollers and paint brushes Acrylic Paint Blackboard paint 4x Teacher’s desks & sturdy chairs Ideally, the container would remain there for conversion into a shelter so that supplies and people may be kept safe if ever there is need again in future (cyclones happen annually so building resilience is vital). If you can help us with sourcing any of the above items, storing supplies for the coming 6-12 months, offering services such as shipping or clearance, or donating funds/ fund raising, please sing out. If you live in SEQ and see kindy supplies for sale at Aldi or second hand ones for sale, please start buying them so that by the time we head across, we have a good amount to take with us. We will also take children’s thongs/ flip-flops, hats, shorts, t-shirts, skirts, dresses. Suitable for hot sticky climates only. No adults clothing will be taken. Thanks for helping make another massive dream come true. (Photos by Mayumi Green)
08.01.2022 TOYS FOR TOTS Today’s boot-load haul of wooden kindy toys that will be destined for Vanuatu. TC Harold obliterated all except for one kindy in the south of Espiritu Santo, so we’re collecting wooden toys and educational materials for when the structures are rebuilt. Aldi has these on special this week so please help us add to the pile by contributing funds or by sending us the wooden toys you’ve purchased.... If you have second hand wooden toys, educational books or kids story books that are in good condition and that you’d like to donate, please contact us for drop-off addresses in Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Pls share this post. Thank you
08.01.2022 Although media are largely ignoring their plight, those displaced by TC Harold last month continue to live in caves or under tarps (if they could get them).
07.01.2022 Thank you Geoff for offering to make wooden toys for the Vanuatu kindy projects. The kids are going to LOVE playing with your creations!
05.01.2022 More devastation from South Santo. You may recognise some of these locations if you have travelled with us there. Please donate whatever you can. (DM us for bank details). Pics: Mayumi Green
