20.01.2022 During the course of Operation Bushfire Assist, members of 2/17 RNSWR assisted affected communities in NSW. The impact of this assistance was in some instances tangible, but in many other instances, the contribution made by soldiers had an impact which was intangible. Examples include the cricket match in Bega, a touch football game against the Cobargo Eels and assisting in the delivery of an estimated 2000 bales of hay to farmers. PTE Robertson from Delta Company 2/17 RNSWR ...spoke of the immense privilege of witnessing the resilience of people who had been affected by fires and knowing our soldiers were making such a valuable contribution. For this reason, PTE Robertson volunteered to spend a second month serving on Operation Bushfire Assist. LT Alexander, a Platoon Commander from 2/17 RNSWR commented, For many people I had the opportunity to speak with, seeing Australian soldiers in their town, to assist, to talk, to care, was an injection of morale badly needed after such a traumatic event. I would like to take this opportunity to applaud the efforts of everyone involved on Operation Bushfire Assist. I am extremely proud of what we have been able to achieve. The soldiers of 2/17 RNSWR were greatly humbled by the way in which the communities expressed their thanks. #youradf #goodsoldiering #armyinmotion 5th Brigade - Australian Army Forces Command - Australian Army 5th Engineer Regiment 4th/3rd Battalion, Royal New South Wales Regiment 5th Combat Service Support Battalion 1st/15th Royal New South Wales Lancers
