23.01.2022 WHERE ARE WE TODAY We are all dressed up and ready to party at the Beenleigh Christmas market, at the town square. Come and pick up your Xmas supplies, same price as last year and we have a couple of new wines to tempt you too.... You will find us between squeezed orange juice and charcoal invaders. We are here until 9pm so don’t be late or you will have to catch us at Redcliffe tomorrow afternoon.
23.01.2022 LIFE ON THE FARM It is 9am and no vineyard or winery in sight, but I guess that is no excuse for not going to work
22.01.2022 WHERE ARE WE TODAY We have left the farm and come down to the Kuraby Xmas market until 9m tonight. You will find us next to delicious foods and cakes in the train station carousel
20.01.2022 LIFE ON THE FARM This is what farmers do when they are practicing self isolation. A good days work. Bring on winter. Now for the G & T, then a glass of red with dinner.
18.01.2022 LIFE ON THE FARM Some days you just know you should not get out of bed and yesterday was one of those days. First Suzanne smashed the slasher, then Philip did a tyre on the little green tractor, then the ride on mower gearbox went.... Suzanne called Col at Mr Metal who cut a new bar and while Col measured and cut, he sent her next door to get new nuts and bolts. Col then called one of his customers Neil at Spartan Engineering who drilled holes for her. In the mean time, Philip had the tyre off and at Charlton tyres who fixed it and he was back to work again before Suzanne got back. 2hours later, Suzanne was back in the paddock until she run over a log in the tall grass/weeds, so it was a winch job before heading home. Unfortunately, the Husqvarna ride on mower is a different story. Only 450 hours and the gearbox is shot, it will cost $3,000 to fix or dump as too costly to repair so don’t buy a Husky. 2 out of 3 successes in one day is good when your on a farm. With the virus in full swing events that we would attend have been canceled as far out as June so you will not be seeing us for a while. The good news, we are fit and well and we are making the first of our deliveries starting Monday. So please give us a call, any 12 wines for $168 (not including ports or liqueurs) and while you are enjoying one of our wines, you can think of us on the farm.
18.01.2022 LIFE ON THE FARM When Ian the bee an phoned and said his bees were in a bad place, they had to travel long distances to work and had little food, we did not hesitate and told Ian to bring them home. He was so released, he said they would not bother us and would sing as they worked. Yes, life is good especially when you can lend a hand or in this case a safe haven for his bees
17.01.2022 WHERE ARE WE TODAY? We have come down to the Manly markets today with the hope of having a break from hay fever and all the flowers on the vines and in the gardens around Toowoomba. Come and say hello and get a bottle or two of delicious wines for a BBQ lunch or scrumptious dinner tonight
16.01.2022 Well, another 25 ml on Saturday and all over in the space 45 minutes or so of heavy stuff. As you can see by the crack, it is little changed from yesterdays photo. Walking acoss from the house to the winery, this morning, did not even get mud on the boots. Soil is still bone dry 120 mls below the surface. Still need a good 300 to 400 mls, or more, of soaking rain, over a few weeks, before we can safely stop watering the vines. Ahh, life on the land, but fingers crossed.
16.01.2022 LIFE ON THE FARM This virus has made us all think outside the square, however we never thought we would go from being a farmer growing grapes and making international award wining wines, to hosting schoolies week for koalas. Monday started off with Ethel and her baby Nick visiting. Nick was given his name because he was always nicking off to branches when mum Ethel was sleeping or eating and like all naughty kids, would go to the highest and thinnest branches where mum could ...not go. On Wednesday, a new mum Victoria and Ratbag arrived. Victoria has a distinctive V on her bottom. We were woken early on Thursday morning with Clive in the tree next to our front door making boy noises and his mates arrived later that afternoon . Not sure her the one in the middle tree was but Albi was there doing what he does best, hanging around in the tallest trees. So that made 7 koalas for the week. Just in case any is wondering, they have been practicing safe distancing as we have about 120 trees around the cellar door and our house. We asked Michael and Bernard at our local Kingsthorpe post office and newsagents who sell our wines if we could swap koala poo for a bottle of milk and the response was a loud no. We are hoping to see Lizzy and Fat Bum and no doubt Brutus will be around soon too. We have left the teenaged to have a good time and have returned to the Manly market this morning so come and say hello and check out our koalas
16.01.2022 LIFE ON THE FARM Cold nights and warm sunny days are the perfect time to be in the garden trimming branches, raking leaves etc and every job needs a boss. Lizzy came when we were having smoko and stayed all day in the Jacaranda tree before moving into the gum trees around the cellar door.
13.01.2022 WHERE ARE WE TODAY Come and join us at the Manly market open until 2pm today. With a lovely cool breeze it will be another magic day with something for everyone.
11.01.2022 WHERE ARE EE TODAY? Today, we are at Victoria Point, our last function for 2019. As the sun goes down, folk have come to collect their wines to enjoy as the clock strikes midnight.... Looking forward to seeing you tonight
10.01.2022 WHERE ARE WE TODAY We have left the farm and enjoying the view across the water to the yachts and boats. Today, we have returned to the wonderful Manly market. You will find us in site number 1, near Bobby with fabulous cloths and Jim with beautiful marble dust sculptures. We are also opposite the famous Manly pavilions.... Come down and say hello, pick up a bottle of wine for dinner tonight- at last years price of only $20 or $50 for any 3 wines. We also brought some port for the cold winter nights or sip on our warmed Ginger Crush.
08.01.2022 Finally, the best one day of rain, since the 2011 floods, 87 mls. Certainly badly needed and so far this year, 224 mls, just more than half of what we had for the whole of 2019. Keep it coming Huey.
08.01.2022 Did not think we had that much moisture in the soil, until Huey dropped another 60mls on us around 5.30 last evening. Oddles of run off in these pictures and an Olympic size pool at the bottom of the home paddock , the morning after. Oh that pool is about 4 metres deep, so plenty of water for the cattle.Just missed another big down poor, fortunately.
07.01.2022 At last. The first real drop of rain 38 mls, since mid March 2019. But as you can see, not nearly enough to fix the cracks in the black soil. Another 100mls over the next couple of days and it would be magic. Fingers crossed.
