25.01.2022 On the 8th of February, the Venturers went to Shepherds Hill Reserve, to assist the Friends of Shepherds Hill (FOSH) to clear invasive plant species from the park. We used drills and glyphosate to kill off the olive trees roots and it was a great afternoon with amazing weather. We'll definitely be back again next month!

25.01.2022 On 14 August we did a night hike along Brownhill Creek, visited a fairy village (!) and invested 4 new Venturers. Welcome to 2nd Adelaide guys!

23.01.2022 The Venturers helped out with a Leaders Working Bee at the Scout Hall - found all sorts of 'treasures'!

23.01.2022 Congratulations to Tom B, Fred, Jamie, Sayla, Zach and Tom L who completed their Level 1 Bushwalking course this term. It includes 4 theory workbooks and the planning documentation to run an overnight hike. Now they can plan and take the Unit on an overnight hike - well done guys!!

21.01.2022 Not many photos posted by us lately, but we're still very active in these crazy COVID-19 times. Over the last few weeks we've been doing virtual Venturing, and activities have included a fishing night (with optional dancing..); introduce your pet night, with bribery encouraged; baby photo challenge (who was that grumpy kid at the end?!) and a bomb disposal challenge to test our communication and teamwork skills! Seeing a whole other side of each other!! Not long to go now and we'll be back at the Den catching up around our fireplace - bring it on!!

19.01.2022 COVID-19 has meant that we can't meet each week for our planned activities this term so we've had to get creative and come up with new Virtual Venturing nights. Our first night was a Pictionary-type drawing game, called Skribbl, that everyone could take part in, regardless of artistic ability. The hardest one of the night was probably Charlie Chaplin!

19.01.2022 Beach Night at Henley Beach and there should be lots of photos since it was a beautiful night, but somehow we just get busy... so after swimming out to the end of the jetty, some people were seen falling into the water (funny that the 'No Jumping' signs are located so you can only see them if you walk out on the jetty rather than swimming...), then we had beach cricket, flag races, hot chips, push out of the square and of course buried a Venturer. A fantastic, fun night with lots of laughs! Well done to Will for organising it!

17.01.2022 ANZAC Day 2020 - not the movie night, sleepover and Dawn Service that we planned before COVID19 but we will remember them. Members of our Venturer Unit made the wreath to represent 2nd Adelaide Scout Group at Mitcham War Memorial. Lest We Forget.

17.01.2022 Learning new skills in Virtual Venturing: This week one of our Venturers, our resident Woodsman, ran an interactive axe hanging demonstration. Between signing in and out of 40 minute free Zoom sessions, sharing memes, some musical accompaniment from our talented multi-instrument muso, and plenty of questions and comments a great night was had, and an axe was hung!

17.01.2022 On the 15th of November, the Venturers did part 2 of the kayaking course. We paddled around Garden Island and practiced capsize drills including self-rescue(cowboy), wedge rescues and a 50 meter swim back to shore with our kayaks. There was thunder and lightening which made us paddle back to shore very quickly! We saw lots of dolphins in very close proximity and got to explore the ships graveyard!

14.01.2022 Our second week of Virtual Venturing got everyone 'running around' and being creative in Minecraft. We made a farm, went diving on a shipwreck and went to another dimension. Lots of laughs all round!

14.01.2022 Campfire Cooking in Foil night saw a range of culinary delights produced including nachos, pizza, corn on the cob, garlic bread, sausages, chocolate brownies cooked in oranges, ice cream cones filled with banana, chocolate, and marshmallows - is there anything we can't cook in foil?!? Huge thanks to Adam and Stein for putting together a new welded 'fire pit' so we're not burning the grass - it works like a champ!

13.01.2022 Last Friday, one of the Venturers ran a Bake Off starting with the ANZAC biscuit baking challenge, judged by the Leaders. The Venturers then grabbed one of the pre-made cupcakes and were told to decorate them according to the word given. The words included the Scout Logo, a spider, and a face (in case you can't tell from the images!)

08.01.2022 We went to church! Some of the Venturers joined in with a tour at the St Peter's Cathedral in North Adelaide. We learned about the construction of the Church and why they have such a wide variety of decorative windows, including one with sperm and embryos!

03.01.2022 Venturers sorting out the fire on a damp, chilly 2nd Adelaide Family Day at Woodhouse so we could boil the water, toast the marshmallows for smores, do a wood burning activity and cook the damper - great work Venturers!

01.01.2022 A couple of weeks ago (pre social distancing!) we were lucky enough to arrange a special tour of NUSHIP Sydney, the third and last Air Warfare Destroyer ship, before she left Adelaide for Sydney, her new home port. Fantastic to have an 'all-access' pass to see how people live and work at sea on a warship, and to see the amazing product of our SA shipbuilding industry!
